Work Text:

By the time they’ve finished filming and Taeyong’s sure the cameras have been cut off and there is no unfamiliar staff around to watch, his eyes make a beeline for his boyfriend a few feet away, bowing his thanks to the staff as he passes them by to get out of the pool.

He spots one of the managers, handing out towels and fluffy coveralls. He makes his way over to him, saying his thanks as he passes by other staff.

“I’ll take this to him, hyung,” Taeyong smiles, gesturing to the coverall he recognizes as Ten’s before gesturing over to his boyfriend.

The manager nods with a smile and gives him a towel too before returning to his previous duty. Taeyong reaches Ten as he’s stepping out of the pool and shaking himself off, toeing on his flip-flops. He wraps the towel around his boyfriend and hugs him tight.

Ten glances at him with surprise in his eyes that turns into happiness upon recognition. “Hyung, you scared me.”

“Whyyy~?” Taeyong sing-songs, rubbing Ten’s arms, drying him off and trying to warm him some. It’s not a cold night, but staying in water too long has a way of zapping at one’s warmth. He’d rather his boyfriend not suffer a cold over this shoot.

“I thought an octopus monster was coming to get me.”

Taeyong giggles and hangs the towel on his arm before helping his boyfriend put on his white fluffy coverall. It matches his trunks, depicting a blue watercolor ocean.

Ten murmurs a small thank you and then takes the towel from him to ruffle his hair dry. Taeyong watches, unaware of the sickening fondness taking over his features.

His boyfriend notices as soon as he gets his head out from under the towel and tosses the thing at him, catching him in the face. Taeyong only manages to pull it off as Ten stalks away with a mischievous chuckle and a carefree sway in his step. Taeyong follows behind him as if drawn on a string, shamelessly caught.

“Did you get it, hyung?”

Ten sits on top of the cement barrier, separating a small party area from the rest of the water park. Their members aren’t too far away, taking their turns washing up in the locker room after their filming for the day.

It was a fun time and they were allowed to use the facilities for as long as they like, but it was also tiring, wading back and forth, risking their lives in a plastic hamster wheel and on unstable foam platforms. It’s enough excitement for the night.

They’ll wash up, load up into their cars, and go home to get some rest. Except for Ten and Taeyong. It’s been some time since they’ve had a chance to go on a nightly escapade and tonight is perfect for the occasion.

Ten planned it this time and Taeyong can’t wait to find out what it is he has in store.

“What are you smiling so wide about, Yongie?”

“Do you really want to know?”

Ten nods, balancing himself on the barrier with ease. It’s dim without the flash of the phone camera, so dim all of Ten’s features have been softened in the tiny yellow light somewhere behind them.

Taeyong lets himself entertain the idea that he and Ten have rented out the entirety of this water park for themselves, playing like children… for just a few seconds. All before he feels yet another surge of warmth, affection, rush through him and all for his boyfriend a few feet in front of him, as beautiful as the many sunsets he’s been allowed to witness from different parts of the world.

“I was thinking about you and how lucky I am to call you my boyfriend,” Taeyong murmurs sweetly, inching ever closer to Ten.

A bright smile overtakes Ten’s face, one that stretches from ear to ear, one so genuine and brazen that it takes Taeyong for another whirlwind of emotions, from syrupy sunshine warming his skin to crystal waves rocking him high to the moon and back down again.

He snaps a picture before it can fade, so quickly in fact that it comes out unfocused and whitewashes his Tenie from the proximity.

He frowns at it until Ten pulls him closer with a little tug on his wrist. His boyfriend observes the picture, that same smile tugging at his lips, but much more subdued now so that it looks like a smirk. Ten hums and nods, “Is this what you see?”

“It’s only a crumb of what I see, Tenie,” Taeyong murmurs, glancing over his shoulder to make sure the staff isn’t there before leaning in to peck Ten’s cheek.

Ten smiles, eyes creasing lovely. He nudges him away in front of him silently and Taeyong moves, holding out his arms. Ten grins and jumps right off the barrier. Taeyong catches him and hugs him tight, rubbing his hands up and down his back.

“Do you think everyone else is done now?”

“Who knows?”

“Let’s wait here a little longer,” Ten murmurs in his ear, arms wrapped around his torso.

Taeyong makes a small noise of agreement and starts swaying them side to side, tottering from one foot to the other instead of anything romantic. When they turn away from the staff a few feet away, Ten sneaks a peck against his shoulder with an audible little smack. Taeyong grins and has to hold in the urge to smack a kiss against his Tenie’s forehead.

“What do you have planned for date night?” Taeyong whispers, letting his hands linger near his boyfriend’s rib cage.

Ten huffs amused, “Taeyongie, I’m not ticklish, remember?”

“It doesn’t hurt to try,” Taeyong smirks, letting his hands return to their spot, wrapped around his boyfriend’s waist.

Ten rolls his eyes and chuckles softly, “It’s a surprise, hyung. You can be patient a little longer, hm?”

“I guess, but only cause it’s you.”

Ten smiles, satisfied, and lets his head rest against his shoulder for a moment. Taeyong smiles just as endeared and holds Ten a little tighter, whispering reverently, “It’s you.”

They listen to the staff a few feet away, shouting orders to each other as they gather all their things, to the water running from the slides across the pool, to the pool water lapping against the cement, to their flip-flops clapping every time they take a step to each side.

It’s quiet and peaceful for a moment, in its own way. They wouldn’t have it any other way.

Notes:

anyone else crying?

we lost many taetenists during this drought, but at last we have food (albeit crumbs) and proof! that the reason ten and ty don't film together is because they can no longer hide how in love they are!!!

I hope you've all been well ;-; i've been trying to enjoy my break from school and messing around with some fic ideas, might share a snippet of another very self-indulgent fic this coming wednesday on twt
But yea, I'll be getting back to work next week and I really really hope, whatever y'all are starting or ending, that it goes over smooth. I'm rooting for y'all, always! Hope y'all are staying safe and healthy!

Love y'all! <3
