Ace has a simple life outside the Emperor's Coven. Wake up early, make potion deliveries, scam a few witches and go to the library to spend time with their friends. Of course, the early start is usually punctuated by screams, broken pencils and more often than not wrist pain and tears. And perhaps the potion deliveries are preceded by an obscene amount of time spent trying to cover up the grisly mark that marrs the place where Ace's eye used to be and serves as a warning not to trifle with Emperor Belos. Not to mention the scamming usually involves running at full speed from coven guards and angry drunks alike whilst experiencing a pain that is not theirs to begin with. But Ace's friends are fine. Everything's fine.
Enter Luz The Human, who sets things in motion that Ace has known about for years yet still can't see a way to prevent or minimalize the damage to be done. They want to fight fate, fight destiny, fight against the very future they are doomed to witness alongside nightmares that aren't theirs and waking up surrounded by graphite and ink. Ace longs to change the things they illustrate every time they drift asleep, craves the ability to stop some of the hardships ahead and would do most anything to achieve the unreachable goal. And perhaps Luz Noceda and her unusual glyph magic might be the key to giving both the Boiling Isles and the brother Ace left behind a better ending than the ones they have drawn every night.
