Work Text:

It had been another long day, and it still wasn't over. After working a couple of extra hours, you ran a few errands, dropping canned goods off at the local shelter, picking up dry cleaning for your mom, stopping by your sister's to help your niece and nephews with their math homework, then grocery shopping for your mom and yourself. You dropped her things off at her place, spending a little time with her. Now you've arrived home, arms and hands full of groceries, quickly putting everything away. You were tired, but there were still things to do around the house, unloading and reloading the dishwasher, starting a load of laundry, folding clothes in the dryer, just so many things that you didn't want to have to do tomorrow when you were off. You took a deep breath and continued moving, knowing if you sat down, you probably wouldn’t get back up.

Daichi opened the door, the sound of the vacuum cleaner humming through the house. He shook his head, knowing what he was walking into, but still annoyed by it. He found you in the guest bedroom, an exhausted expression on your face, as you pushed the vacuum around. He leaned against the door frame and smiled, happy to see you, even though he wished you were sitting down resting. You turned off the vacuum, the absence of the noise welcomed, as you sighed deeply.

"You just don't know how to rest do you?"

You jumped, his low voice startling you, his smile and chuckle that normally makes you smile, irritating you.

"You scared the crap out of me! What are you doing here?", you replied.

"It's your fault. If you were sitting down and resting at 9pm like a sane person, you would have heard me come in. And I practically live here.", he replied, wrapping the cord around the vacuum, and placing it in the hallway closet.

"Whatever.", you replied scrunching your nose at him. "I want to get this stuff done so that I can rest tomorrow."

"Which is what you say every weekend, and every weekend you find something to keep you busy.", he replied taking you by the hand, pulling you towards the living room.

"There's always something to do. I can't help it."

"Lies. You just can't sit still, no matter how hard I try to get you to."

He sat on the couch, pulling you down with him.

"Daichi, I can't sit down yet. I need to finish.", you whined.

"What else do you need to do?"

"I still need to change the sheets in the guest room, and dust, and sweep and mop.", you replied, lifting a finger for each task.

"Okay, well, no, and no, and no, and no.", he replied, lowering a finger each time.

"Daichi.", you replied, sighing deeply.

"No.", he said firmly, staring at you sternly. "I don't know why you're changing sheets no one has slept on. I was the only one occasionally using the guest room, which I haven't done in forever because I always end up falling asleep with you. There is no dust in this house because you dust every flipping day, and we could eat off these floors. Stop busying yourself and rest."

"I-", you started to reply, but was cutoff by the sound of your stomach growling loudly. Your eyes widened, knowing you were really in trouble now.

"Y/N.", he called, closing his eyes and taking a deep breath.

"Yes.", you replied softly.

"Have you eaten today?", he asked, his eyes now glaring into yours.

You thought about it for a while, walking through your day. "No.", you whispered, looking away from him.

He leaned in, placing his forehead on yours, bring your gaze back to him.

"Why not?", he lowly growled, staring in your eyes, before leaning back.

"Well…", you started, running through the list of everything you did that day, skipping lunch to help someone finish their assignment.

He sighed, softly smiling at you as he shook his head.

"You're always taking care of everyone else, but never yourself. We've talked about this.", he said softly.

"I know. I know. There's just so much to do.", you replied, sighing. "I really need a me, for me. Someone to take care of me since I'm so terrible at it.", you chuckled.

"You have that.", he said, gently tucking a lock of hair behind your ear, staring at you softly. "That's why you're sitting on the couch instead of cleaning clean things. That's why you're going to go take a hot bath, that I'm going to run for you, while I cook you dinner."

You smiled warmly at him. "Daichi, you don't have to do that."

He stood, grabbing both of your hands, pulling you off the couch, your bodies close together.

"Then after dinner, I'm giving you a massage, then…cuddles.", he replied smiling widely at you.

You smiled up at him, shaking your head, knowing there was nothing you could say to stop him from pampering you, not that you wanted to. He was right. He is your someone that takes care of you. You didn't always acknowledge it with him being your best friend, but he was always like this, making sure you were taken care of, even if you weren't neglecting yourself. It's just one of the things you loved about him. One of the things that made you fall so deep…in love with him.

Daichi smiled down at you, knowing he had you and you were done being stubborn. He loved that stubbornness though. It just made him want to take care of you even more, and he loved taking care of you. Sure he wishes you were better about taking care of yourself, but you were always doing for others and that's not something he frowned upon. So you deserved to have someone to take care of you, and he was the man for the job. A job he wouldn't relinquish to anyone else, continuing to love you as your best friend until the day he could be more than that.

"Alright, I'm going to start your bath. Be back in a minute.", he said softly, walking away. You sighed deeply, smiling to yourself, determined to actually try to rest for once.

He ran your bath, and you soaked, the heat relaxing your muscles. He came back, washing your back for you, while dinner cooked. Once dinner was ready, he sat next to you at the table, feeding you.

"Daichi. I can feed myself.", you giggled.

"Quiet. I got this.", he smiled, bringing the chopsticks full of noodles to your lips.

You didn't protest anymore, enjoying the intimacy of the act, as you softly stared at each other.

"So what are we doing tomorrow?", he asked.

"We?", you asked, confused.

"Yes we. The only way I can get you to rest is to be by your side and make you do it. So, what are we doing tomorrow?", he replied, a soft smile on his face.

"I don't know. We could go for a hike, or volunteer at the shelter, or take the kids to the zoo."

"Those are…nice ideas.", he replied. "So we're going to stay in bed all day, watching TV and eating junk food."

"That was not in my list.", you laughed.

"That was always the plan. Your list never mattered. I was just being nice.", he replied, the two of you laughing.

"Guess I don't have a choice then.", you said, lips wrapping around the chopsticks, sliding off the noodles into your mouth.

"Nope.", he softly replied, eyes on your lips.

You finished dinner, and he took a quick shower before starting on your massage. He spent an hour, massaging you head to toe as he hummed, skipping your more sensitive areas, although you both wanted his hands on those as well. You were putty, smiling and sighing, feeling so relaxed. He crawled in next to you, face to face, wrapping his arms around you.

"How's that? Feeling relaxed?", he smiled.

You smiled, gently nodding your head.

"You're spoiling me.", you replied.

"I know.", he smiled softly.

"What am I supposed to do when you stop doing this?"

"Why would I stop?", he asked, confused.

"One day, you'll meet a sweet girl and fall madly in love with her, and then you'll do all this for her, and I'll be left alone to take care of myself, and we both know I suck at that.", you chuckled and smiled.

"If that's what you're worried about, then don't.", he smiled.

"Why shouldn't I?"

"Because. I already met a sweet girl, and fell madly in love with her, and I just did all of this for her, so that she knows that she'll never be alone, and I'll always, always take care of her…because she sucks at it.", he replied staring lovingly into your eyes, his nose brushing against yours, smiling at you.

You smiled widely, teeth sinking into your lip, a soft chuckle escaping as you averted your eyes. His hand cupped your cheek, thumb slowly rubbing across it, bringing your gaze back to his.

"Wow. She is one lucky girl to have a man like you in love with her. Especially since you're also her best friend, and…she's so madly in love with you too. Definitely the luckiest girl in the world.", you replied, smiling lovingly at him.

"I'm the lucky one.", he whispered.

He pressed his forehead to yours, eyes intense, smile warm. He brushed his nose against yours again, then slowly leaned in, kissing you soft and deep. You pulled back, staring softly into each other's eyes. He pulled you into him, squeezing you tighter, burying his face in your neck, as you buried your face in his, feeling each other's smiles.
