Work Text:
The empty streets of a city were dark, the only light being the street lamps on the other side of the street. The sound of crickets rang throughout the night. This. This was the perfect moment to go out. Sanford had a plan for tonight.
Sanford turned away from the window, grabbing Deimos by her hand.
"Hey, let's go out." She said with a big grin. Deimos looked back at her rather surprised.
"Oh like..? Right now? It's almost midnight!" Deimos stated.
Sanford nodded in agreement with a chuckle.
"Yeah, so? Come on... And get a big bag!" She said tugging slightly on her girlfriend's hand.
"Okay, bet! You know I'd go anywhere with you! Let's get going." She exclaimed.
They ran down the hallways and to their shared room. They changed into some comfortable clothing, Deimos wearing a pair of shorts and a tank top while Sanford wore an oversized blue hoodie. Just like Sanford told her, they both brought bags. They then headed downstairs as quietly as possible so as not to wake up anyone. Once they were both outside, Sanford led the way towards the edge of the sidewalk where she was able to see the stars shining above her.
They walked in silence for a while until Deimos broke it.
"So... Where are we exactly going?" She asked. Deimos looked at her girlfriend curiously.
"We're going somewhere special. Don't worry, it won't take long." She replied.
Deimos gave her a look of confusion before shrugging it off.
"Sure, whatever you say, love." She said with a smile.
After a few moments had passed, they stood up and began walking through the city. Deimos kept looking around at all of the different shops and stores, occasionally pausing in one place to admire something. Sanford noticed this and gave her a warm smile.
"So do you recognize this place?" She asked after watching Deimos stare at the sign that read 'Hooters'.
Deimos thought for a second, before snapping her fingers.
"It's the bar you took me to last time we went here. Isn't that right?" She questioned.
Sanford nodded.
"Mhm. Buut not exactly what I had in mind.." She responded.
Deimos looked over at Sanford and raised a brow.
"What do you have in mind, hun?" She asked curiously.
She received no response, but she couldn't help but think about what Sanford could possibly be planning. They continued walking for a few more minutes until they were close to the end of town. At this moment, Deimos gasped.
"The first building we robbed together!" She exclaimed.
Sanford chuckled and nodded.
"Indeed, dear. That was fun." She reminisced, remembering how she and Deimos would often rob different buildings, sometimes stealing a car or stealing a horse.
In the end, it always ended with them running, laughing, and having fun. And gaining money to live on top of that. They both hold all those times close to their hearts.
"I wanted to bring you here to-..."
"ROB IT AGAIN?!" Deimos finished for Sanford, who gave a nod, along with a small laugh.
Deimos placed her arm around Sanford's shoulder and smiled happily.
"Well aren't you just the sweetest person ever?" She said in response.
Sanford smiled and hugged her back.
"Only for you babe. Only for you." She murmured giving her a peck on the cheek.
"Don't be so cheesy." Deimos giggled.
She leaned closer to her girlfriend and rested her forehead against hers. For a brief moment, they stayed that way. Deimos closed her eyes and held onto her tight. She took a deep breath before pulling away from Sanford and taking another look at the buildings around Them. It was just a simple convenience store.
"Let's get in through the back door and get some snacks!" Deimos suggested excitedly.
Sanford laughed lightly.
"Sounds great." She said.
Together they made their way inside. As they walked inside, Deimos pulled out a lock pick and proceeded to work on getting in the back door. As she did, Sanford leaned against the wall and watched her work with fascination. It felt strange. Almost like deja vu. But she brushed it aside and focused on the present. Finally, after several minutes of working, Deimos had successfully gotten inside the store.
"Alright!" She exclaimed triumphantly. "All done! Let's go!" She grabbed Sanford by the hand and dragged her inside.
It was empty. It was so easy to rob this store. It didn't even have any monitoring. No one was in sight so they were sure they'd get away with it like usual. Deimos walked through the aisles, humming. Quickly, however, she fixed her gaze on cigarettes. Jumping over the counter she grabbed a few packs showing them into her bag.
"Don't mind if I do~" She whispered with a smile.
"Hey! We are here for the food not to fuel your addiction!" Sanford said looking back at her.
"Yeah, yeah! Whatever you say, miss!" Deimos retorted playfully.
She rolled her eyes in response. Sanford decided to just pick out all Deimos' favorite snacks. She knew that she loved all things sour. And salty snacks... So that's exactly what she picked out. Along with a few drinks. They'd surely have a nice night together after that!
"Did ya grab some booze?" Deimos asked while grabbing a pack of chips and putting it in her pocket.
"Yup!" Sanford replied, popping the 'p'.
"Then we've got everything?" Deimos questioned.
"Ice cream?"
"I've got it. Cookies 'n' Cream, your favorite! " Deimos made finger guns pointing them at her girlfriend while winking.
Sanford snorted in response, flushing slightly.
"Let's get back home then." She said walking towards the exit.
With Deimos by her side, that walk soon turned into more of a jog filled with giggles.
"Remember how the first time we got chased by the police?" Deimos asked as she sped up to keep pace with her girlfriend.
"Of course, I remember. We never really stopped running afterwards. We always had to make a break for it before they caught us." Sanford replied.
"And when we were hiding in that abandoned barn?"
"You found a bunch of dead mice hidden in the corner."
"And when you fell asleep in the attic after spending too much time playing Mario Kart?"
"Totally worth it. I don't regret anything!"
Their laughter echoed through the alleyway. Their feet hit the pavement and the breeze flowed through their hair. Everything seemed so perfect. They finally burst into the apartment complex and right back into their room. Home at last... Locking the door, without hesitation, they both jumped into bed after undressing. Deimos immediately grabbed onto Sanford and pulled her closer, nuzzling her face into her chest as she wrapped her arms around her.
They enjoyed each other's warmth for a while.
Then, Sanford took out the alcohol, the ice cream and everything they brought from the store. Deimos was very happy, drinking and eating alongside her. It was really cozy. Deimos wrapped her arms around Sanford, giving her a gentle kiss on the neck. It made her shiver. Sanford always loved to feel Deimos' lips. So soft and tender... Every kiss was always full of life and deeply personal. Every little touch would bring this unexplainable joy and take away her every worry. Sanford's attention was fully on Deimos.
"Was this your anniversary gift?" Deimos asked softly.
Sanford nodded slightly.
"Yes." She answered simply with a smile.
Deimos returned the smile. Her lips were practically touching Sanfords.
"Happy Anniversary!" She whispered, before pulling in to give her girlfriend a light kiss on the lips.
"Happy anniversary, darling." She replied in return.
The two of them remained that way for a few seconds before Deimos suddenly pushed herself up on her elbow.
"Actually... I have something for you too!" She said quickly before sliding out of the bed.
With excitement written across her face, she ran over to the drawer where she stashed all her treasures. When she came back, she hid something behind her back.
"Look inside the ice cream box." Deimos requested excitedly.
Sanford looked at her confused for a second, before complying. When she saw the item Deimos put inside the ice cream box, she immediately started chuckling. It was a small strip of paper. Written on it, is a question: Do you wanna get married? The handwriting was messy, but it wasn't illegible. A small smile appeared on her face as she unfolded it. Underneath the text was a small drawing of them holding hands while wasting wedding dresses. How sweet... When Sanford looked back at Deimos, she was standing there with a small box in her hands. Opening it up, revealing a ring. A beautiful silver band with two small diamonds embedded in them. The ring glinted in the light that was streaming in from the window, and a smile appeared on her face.
"Oh, baby. This is-"
"-perfect! Isn't it?!" Deimos exclaimed excitedly, smiling brightly.
Before she had a chance to respond though, Deimos rushed forward and kissed her girlfriend passionately.
"Will you marry me, Sanford?! Will you spend the rest of your life with me?! Please! You're my soulmate, Sanford! My wife and I want to spend the rest of our lives together!" Deimos rambled out quickly in between kisses.
Sanford couldn't help herself. She kissed her girlfriend back.
"I will! Of course!" She responded, happily laughing while being drowned in kisses.
A few moments later, Deimos stopped kissing her and slipped the ring onto her finger. Once she did, both girls went silent for a while. They just stared at each other smiling wide. Finally, Deimos broke the silence.
"I love you. More than anything. More than the moon and more than the sun!" Deimos declared before planting another sweet kiss on Sanford's lips.
The next thing she knew, Deimos' body was lifted off of the ground. She yelped in surprise and started laughing as Sanford spun her around and began spinning them in circles. After about 10 minutes or so, she set her down gently onto the floor again and placed a quick kiss on her forehead.
"You wanna know what I love about you, Dei?" Sanford asked quietly as she stared at Deimos with a smile.
"What's that, huh?" She smiled back.
"Everything. Literally everything" Sanford sighed looking into her eyes. "Your voice, your laugh and your jokes. Your smile is the most beautiful I've ever seen... You make my day! And you're my only partner in crime... The only girl that I want to run away from the police with!" She placed a kiss on her forehead. "I love you. And I'm glad I'll get to call you my wife!" She finished, before wrapping her arms tightly around Deimos' waist.
Deimos hugged her tightly back. "I swear you're gonna make me cry one day" She mumbled before leaning back and looking directly into Sanfords' eyes. "I love you too. You mean the world to me." She added.
They stayed like this for a while. Just smiled at each other as they basked at the moment. All they ever needed was to be around each other. How amazing was this day already? They were both clearly happy. They had no clue what they would've done if they didn't meet one another today. But as long as they could spend their days like this with each other, they'll never stop loving each other. Not after everything they've already gone through. And they'll go through so much more together. Soon, Deimos was starting to yawn.
"I think we should probably head to sleep, now."
"Mmhmm" Sanford agreed before letting Deimos go.
"Help me clean up the bottles and trash from earlier?"
"I'll think about it!" Deimos chuckled, grabbing the discarded bags and boxes.
Sanford just sighed, walking over to help her clean up. She loved Deimos. She truly did. There was nothing that could compare to her. And that's why she chose to be her partner in crime instead of just dating someone else. That would've been boring. But Deimos was pretty special... Very special. And Sanford was happy.
And she'd always stay happy as long as she was by Deimos' side.
