It was just another regular Saturday morning in the city of Esempi. The birds were chirping, the children were playing in the parks and the great Tommy Innit Watson was getting ready to go to his part time job. Now you may be asking, why would someone go to work on a weekend. It was simple really, one of Tommy's best friends, Ranboo, was going to start working at his workplace and today was his first day or basically orientation.
"I AM LEAVING FOR WORK!" Tommy shouted. He could hear a distant okay from Phil Crow Watson, his father; who was in the kitchen with his older brother Technoblade Alexander Watson.
Tommy grabbed his backpack and ran out of the house and closed the door behind him. He walked on the colourful footpath with earpods in his ears. He was listening to his favourite song Mellohi. It was a Minecraft song but he still liked it even though he was 16. He liked many so called childish songs like able sisters, cat and others. He honestly couldn't care less if he was called childish for his choice of songs.
He soon arrived in front of a coffee shop called L'manberg. It was his workplace and was owned by his older brother Wilbur Soot Watson. His brother opened the shop as a side gig when he was 20 and it has been 5 years since then. It has a nice relaxed vibe to it. The shop is more of a cafe at this point because of all the sweets they sell but it still mainly sells coffee.
Tommy still remembers the day it was opened. He was 11 at the time and had been annoying his dad since 5 a.m. to take him to Wil's shop. Wilbur had tricked Tommy into thinking that it was actually a drug van country disguised as a shop. When they had arrived at the opening ceremony Techno literally had to keep his mouth shut the whole time or else he said that out loud. Tommy had believed that lie for a whole year under the pretense that they had to keep it a secret from the government. When Tommy found out he had locked himself inside for a week, refused to talk to Wilbur for 3 months and only came around when Wilbur brought him to one of his music gigs.
"Hey! Tommy, good morning!" Niki greeted as he entered the shop. It was still quite empty since it was a Saturday morning. Nobody liked to wake up on weekend mornings which made it a perfect day for orientation or training. Normally only 2-3 people were on a shift at a time but since it was orientation everyone was present.
"Good morning Niki! I will go put my shit in the back." Tommy said as he waved at her and walked into the staff room.
The staff room had lockers which had their uniforms and changing rooms and a bathroom. Tommy quickly took his uniform from his locker and went into one of the changing rooms.
The uniforms looked more like they belonged in a late 1700s independence roleplay. It was a blue suit with a sash and a hat with a feather in it. It wasn't uncomfortable, quite the opposite actually. Tommy liked wearing it more than his regular clothes. It definitely added to the uniqueness of the coffee. It was a result of Wilbur's Hamilton phase that he never got out of.
Tommy headed to the counter and saw that Wilbur and Jack were wiping the tables. He heard the bell and looked at the door. It was very early for customers so it must have been Eret, Tubbo or Ranboo. And he was right.
"Eyyy! Big man! Good morning!" Tubbo called as he entered the shop.
"Good morning , bossman!" Tommy said.
"Goodmorning, Tommy." Eret said as he and Tubbo went in the back to get dressed as well.
Now the only one remaining was Ranboo. Tommy thought that Ranboo would be coming with either Tubbo or Eret as they lived near each other and had the same route. Just as he was thinking about Ranboo, he again heard the bell ring.
"Uh- Sorry if i am late. And uh- good morning." Ranboo nervously chuckled as he entered the shop.
"Eyyy! Ranboob! No need to worry! You aren't late." Tommy said which made everyone in the shop laugh.
"Tommy! That's not my name!"
"Ello Ranboo. I didn't know you were the new employee." Jack said as he and Wilbur finally stopped wheezing.
"It really is a surprise. You guys were so secretive about it. No wonder Tommy was so excited." Niki said with a smile on her face.
"Well, it is a tradition and there aren't any exceptions to it. Though Tommy and Tubbo found out about it through some advanced interrogation techniques." Wilbur said the last part ominously.
"And… What advanced interrogation techniques might I ask?" Jack said.
Tommy was going to reply but Ranboo beat him to it.
"Miss Kristen's homemade chocolate cookies."
"WHA- RANBOO YOU WEREN'T SUPPOSED TO TELL THEM!" Tommy screamed which made everyone in the shop wheeze even more if they weren't already and Ranboo just stood there looking absolutely unfazed.
"Well mom's cookies are very good." Wilbur said in between his laughing.
Everyone in the coffee shop knew Ranboo already as he is one of the regulars and Tommy and Tubbo's best friend. Ranboo used to hang out here all the time with Tommy and Tubbo. He doesn't even need orientation but Wilbur insisted that it was needed. He did the same thing with Tommy even though Tommy is his literal younger brother and knows everything about the shop and its customers.
"Okay so first let's get started with the introductions." Wilbur said as he and Jack walked over to the counter. Eret and Tubbo also appeared after changing their clothes.
"Do we really have to do this every time even though the person already knows us?" Jack said.
"Yes. We do. There is no getting out of this." Wilbur said in a stern voice.
"Urgggh! Alright! I am Jack Manifold. I work here part time. I have been working here for 3 years. Also warning if you see hair in the staff sink, it's not a monster. It's just Wilbur's balding. The last employee quit after only a month thinking that it was some sort of monster."
"You are one to say when you don't have even one hair follicle. Atleast I still have hair." Wilbur glared at Jack. While Jack just stood there smugly.
"But it's true Wilbur. I have seen you using that new hair oil for decreased balding and increased hair." Tommy said while laughing.
"TOMMY! YOU GREMLIN! YOU WEREN'T SUPPOSED TO TELL ANYONE!" Wilbur shouted, shifting his glare to Tommy.
"Ok so I am Niki. I have been working here for a around the same time as Jack. I also work here part time. I usually manage the counter and yeah that's about it."
"I am Eret. I have been working here since 6 months ago. I usually work in the back and if you want any fashion advice you can come to me."
"I am Tubbo. I have been working here since 3 months ago. I usually also work at the counter and deal with the tech stuff. Also the no bombs and toxins sign in the backroom is because of me."
"Yeah that made a lot of the past soon to be employees just straight up leave before even properly starting work" Eret said.
"Well it is a necessity unless Tubbo does it again." Jack said.
"Let me guess Tubbo blew up the backroom with bombs and poisoned someone's most probably Dream team's and the food intrustors food." Ranboo said without even looking fazed.
"What the fuck. I thought only the employees knew. Not even the regulars that weren't present that day knew about it." Jack exclaimed.
"He has done similar things at our school. I am surprised he isn't expelled yet." Ranboo said.
"Yea! For example the incident with Miss Puffy in chemistry class, the incident at the field trip with Mr Grian, the graduation party for the senio-" Tommy said listing all of them on his fingers.
"TOMMY SHUT UP AND INTRODUCE YOURSELF! DON'T BRING SCHOOL INTO THIS" Tubbo shouted.
"No Tommy continue. I want to listen more." Jack said with a look of interest.
"Oh if only i was allowed bombs. I woul-" But before Tubbo could finish Tommy cut him off.
"Sorry big man but I don't want an angry Tubbo. "
"Good choice Tommy. What happens in school. Stays in school." Tubbo said which made everyone chuckle.
"Okay so I am Tommy aka the biggest man alive. My bitch of a brother owns this place so I have been here since it opened. Also he likes to eat sand so don't mind the bowl of sand in the fridge."
"Wilbur I knew you were weird but that's a whole new level. You sure you aren't going through something." Ranboo said which made everyone except Wilbur wheeze.
"WHAT- it has good texture." Wilbur retorted.
"Wilbur. It's literally sand." Jack emphasised.
"Yeah Wilbur. Even I can't defend you on that. Do you know how many times I have been asked about why is there a bowl of sand in the fridge by newbies and I have to witness the look of absolute disgust everytime. 4 people quit because of this actually." Eret said in between their laughing.
Wilbur mumbled something then sighed in defeat and began speaking.
"I am Wilbur. The owner of this shop and Tommy's older brother. As you can see even my employees bully me even though I am their boss. Hope you enjoy working here."
"If you don't want to be bullied than stop doing weird stuff!" Tommy said.
"Tubbo literally blew up multiple things and places and carried poison. That's even weirder." Wilbur said.
"Tubbo is intimidating so he doesn't get bullied.It's not our fault that you have a receding hairline." Jack said with a cocky smile. Tommy and Tubbo nodded at his words.
"You are one to say when you don't even have any ha-" Before Wilbur finished Niki cut him off.
"Okay okay, stop bullying Wilbur. But it's true that you have a lot of weird interests Wilbur." Niki said with a smile.
"Nikiiii. Even you have betrayed me." Wilbur said in defeat
"I can't lie wilbur. Now Ranboo introduce yourself so we can actually start work." Niki said.
"I am Ranboo. I would like to work in the back if possible. After hearing everything about Wilbur I am convinced that it is going to be a ride working here."
" Out of all the introductions. The only normal ones were Niki,Eret and Ranboo's. That says a lot." Tubbo said.
"Well everyone else is somewhat- let's say…. eccentric." Ranboo which made the ones it referred to squawk.
"Okay! Everyone back to work! Tommy and Tubbo you guys show Ranboo how everything runs here and everybody else back to your duties." Wilbur said while grabbing a mop.
"Let's go Ranboo. You have to put your things in the locker. The staff room is sick." Tubbo said.
"Where is my uniform?" Ranboo asked.
"In the locker." Tommy and Tubbo said in unison while dragging Ranboo.
After getting Ranboo his uniform they showed him the fridge and the what was where in the staff room. When Ranboo opened the fridge there really was a bowl of sand in it. They just fooled around a little bit in the staff room by opening Jack's locker and filling it with sand. Tommy and Tubbo insisted that they prank someone on Ranboo's first day of work.
When they came back from the staff room. They took Ranboo to the back of the shop which was the kitchen where all the desserts and coffee was kept. There were various machines such as two coffee machines, two ice-cream machines, sprinkles and other machines for people who liked to put weird stuff in their coffee.
As afternoon came some customers started to come and the shop got busy. All of them were doing their jobs and Ranboo didn't seem to have any problem adjusting. The regulars congratulated Ranboo on getting the job. There was a Karen that came by that Wilbur dealt with before Tubbo beat her into a pulp for insulting Tommy and Ranboo who were cleaning at that time.
It was all going smoothly. Then they heard the bell chime again.
"Welcome To L'manberg. What ca-" Tommy cut himself midway when he saw who was at the door.
"Hey Tommy! I heard Ranboo just got a job here. Shame I wanted him to work at our coffee shop." In all his lime green hooded glory there stood Dream with George and Sapnap at his side. The other two were fine but Dream was sometimes a bitch due to his competitive nature.
"Sorry big D. But our coffee shop is just better than yours. So what will you order?" Tommy said with a smile.
"Hmm. Let me think. I want to change it up a little this time. I will take a cappuccino with a black forest pastry. What about you guys?" Dream asked, turning to look at Sapnap and George.
"I will also change it up. I will have a spiced coffee with a pineapple pastry." Sapnap said which earned a look of disgust from Dream and Tommy.
"Sapnap in all honesty, what. The . Fuck?!" Tommy said with a look of utter horror.
"Well since when has Sapnap ordered something normal? Also I will take my regular black coffee and coffee jelly." George said nonchalantly.
"On the go or will you guys stay?" Tommy asked.
"We will stay." Dream said while walking towards their usual spot near the window.
Dream, George and Sapnap run a coffee shop on the opposite side of the city. It was called the Dream Team SMP. Dream was the owner while George and Sapnap had worked there since its opening. It had opened only a year before L-manburg's opening which had resulted in their rivalry. Dream and Techno had already been rivals at almost everything but when Wilbur opened his coffee shop it was bound to happen that Dream also considered him his rival. Dream had continuously tried to hire Tommy, Ranboo and Tubbo but they all refused. It was like a friendly war between the two shops.
Tommy gave the order to Ranboo who was at kitchen duty with Niki. Soon Tommy took the order and delivered it to the Dream team. While the Dream team was there, they exchanged jokes, bullied Wilbur and just had fun. Soon after finishing their coffee they left but not without trying to once again coax Ranboo to join their shop instead to which Tubbo replied by definitely not threatening them with nukes.
The rest of the day was very slow and uneventful. Just like that it came time for closing. Ranboo and Tommy were on closing duty as everyone had already gone home. Tubbo had someone left to do. Eret,Niki and Wilbur had gone to pick up Sally, Wilbur's wife, and Fundy, Wilbur's 1 year old son, from the train station as they were returning from a trip to Sally's parents. Jack had to complete his college assignments. The only ones who didn't have anything to do were Ranboo and Tommy.
"How was your first day working here, Ranboob?" Tommy asked as they walked on the sidewalk.
It was a beautiful night with a full moon. The sky was clear and the stars were visible. The moon illuminated the sky and everything was peaceful. There weren't many people on the street, only 2 or 3 at max. The wind was blowing very harshly too. It was the ideal time for a night walk.
"It was honestly better than I expected." Ranboo said, looking up at the sky.
"Beautiful night,innit. But what did you expect?" Tommy said quietly, also looking up at the sky. He just didn't feel like being loud. He just wanted to embrace how peaceful the universe looked at that time.
"I expected to be bullied 24/7 or Tubbo to blow up the whole shop. I had been thinking about all of the things I could mess up. About having to serve my first customer and immediately fail." Ranboo said with a low and quiet chuckle.
"But that didn't happen, did it?" Tommy said.
"Yeah it didn't. It was honestly amazing. I hope it stays the same for as long as I work there." Ranboo said as they came to the intersection where they usually split off.
"It will. You will have an amazing time. See you tomorrow at our usual spot. Good night, Boob boy" Tommy said as he waved Ranboo goodbye.
"Bye Tommy. Good night!" Ranboo went off in the direction of his house and so did Tommy.
Tommy looked one time at the universe before heading to his house.
' Yeah. It was a wonderful day.'
With that he had a nice family dinner with his family and on Monday when he returned to work, it was as amazing as the last time.
