Work Text:

These hands are too cold for you to hold,

He realizes as she walks down the aisle. A warm smile at her face and eyes teary.

He stands far from the crowd, from the noise, far from her. His heart aches in despair and his mind sobs in agony, he longed to be the man beside the bride. Beside her. And all he can do is watch and wear his heart on his sleeve.

He closes his eyes and listens to her voice, euphoria lacing over it, "I do." She says and for once in his life, he wants to be selfish. Selfish to steal her away. But he cannot. Because he failed at being the man she proclaims her love at. The man, her groom, her husband.

His hands are too cold for her to hold through the winters, the summers, and the springs.

His complaints are finally over now that she met a man that can hold her through all the seasons, through all her life.

And at last, Bucky is content with it. It is his wish for her to be happy and that's all the reason he needed–wanted, for him to leave.
