The universe must have been feeling nice when they had given him Evan Buckley.
The younger man made him feel so content with life. His smile could compete with the Sun. His ocean blue eyes drowned them every time the latter looked at him.
James just felt happy when he was with Evan. They loved the way his name rolled under Evan’s tongue. The look Evan gave them every time he looked over. Honestly, he could go on for days about how much he loved that overgrown golden retriever.
It all started when a stranger talked to him.
6 years before the incident
It was like any other day; James was on his usual walk towards the beach.
They had always felt connected to the ocean, there was no lie there. He heard the ocean call to him, whenever he was feeling a little down, and today was one of those days. Except, his walk wasn’t so peaceful like he had assumed it would be.
There, parked along the sidewalk was a blonde man, he looked much younger than James. 18? 19? Doesn’t matter. He quickly had realized the kid was in some sort of trouble just by the he had looked. The face of defeat was so evident. So, he did the only logical thing anyone would have done.
‘’Hey, everything alright?’’
‘’Huh? Oh urm- just my Jeep.’’ The man had answered.
James was a bit taken back by the deepness of the man’s voice.
‘’Anything I can help with?’’
‘’Do you know how to change a tyer? Properly?’’
‘’Yeah, I do actually.’’ James mentioned letting a small chuckle escape.
Not long after, the Jeep was all good to go. However, James didn’t want the man to go just yet. Something in him felt connected to the man beside him.
‘’Hey, um. This might come off a bit weird, but I am heading to the beach. Do- do you perhaps want to accompany me?’’
‘’Uh- Sure! I could use the distraction’’ The man chuckled.
‘’I am James by the way.’’
Why did he invite a stranger to a walk with him? They didn’t know.
‘’Nice to meet you James, I am Evan!’’
‘’Pleasure meeting you Evan.’’
The two had spent the rest of the day hanging out and getting to know each other. James soon learned that was man, Evan, was 19 and was currently travelling around, trying to find something he can settle for.
That interaction had only lasted a day as Evan had to leave the next morning. They weren’t able to exchange numbers. Bummer, right?
A year later
James has completely forgotten about his encounter with Evan, until he had saw two very familiar set of ocean blue eyes. Evan. Evan was here. The now 20-year-old was standing tall in front of him, wearing an angelic smile.
‘’Long time no see James’’
‘’Evan.’’
