Chapter Text
“What were you even thinking with this?”
Suna flips through the proposal, an annoying smirk plastered on his face. He seems to take joy in picking apart Osamu's projects.
“Oh, like you could do better.” Osamu crosses his arms over his chest.
“I could, and I bet I’ll have to after you show this to the boss.” He scoffs.
“Enlighten me.” He looks down at the man. “What’s wrong with it?”
Suna taps his chin, looking at the stack of papers. “It’s vague and expensive. You know the boss hates that.”
Urk. Osamu looks away, heaving a sigh. He knows Suna is right, but he’s not going to admit it. His reaction gives that away enough as it is. “…Anything else?”
“Well if it were me, I would define the target audience more clearly. If I did that, then I might get away with the cost. It’d be better to lower the cost to begin with, though.”
Suna definitely has a point. It was vague on purpose, since he wasn’t given a lot of information to work with. But the more he refines it, the more likely the boss will be pleased. He reopens the documents on his computer without another word.
“A ‘thank you’ would be nice.” Suna chimes.
“I bet it would.”
Suna laughs, continuing to flip through the paper. "Typo on page 3. Did you even proofread this?"
No.
Osamu moves to that page, fixing the error. Luckily his deskmate goes quiet for a while, allowing Osamu to focus on the documents in front of him. It'll take a while to further refine the document, but even a passable state is fine. He'd already sworn not to work overtime today, so he has to focus.
Click.
“Suna-san.” He warns, focus snatched away. He levels an exhausted look Suna’s way.
“Yes, Miya-san?” Suna asks in a coy tone, not looking away from the computer. In his hand is the offending object, a black ball point pen.
It's almost as if the gods were punishing Osamu in some way. For what, he had no clue. Beating up Atsumu too many times, maybe.
Whatever he did, he's already repented tenfold. Not that it's made a difference. The bane of his existence, the source of his misery is always there whenever he shows up for work.
“Would you please find it in your heart to cease the repeated clicking of your pen.” Osamu implores.
Suna deigns to look at him finally, with a playful smirk. “When you ask so nicely, how can I say no?” He replies, setting the pen down.
Osamu relaxes, turning back to his work.
Suna begins tapping on his desk.
“Suna-san.” He once more begins, in a desperately neutral tone.
“Sorry.” He apologizes through a quiet laugh, and the noise stops.
Osamu resists the smile tugging at the corners of his lips.
You have entered a sanctuary.
[8:17]Rhaya’to Mhirlu: his smug aura vexes me
[8:17]Sablemont Rachenault: lololol
[8:18]Rhaya’to Mhirlu: it’s not funny.
[8:19]Sablemont Rachenault: yes it is
[8:19]Sablemont Rachenault: sounds like you get along tho
[8:20]Rhaya’to Mhirlu: that doesn’t mean hes not a bastard
[8:20]Sablemont Rachenault: just ask him out
[8:21]Rhaya’to Mhirlu: i am NOT into him
[8:22]Sablemont Rachenault: lol
[8:22]Sablemont Rachenault: keep telling yourself that
You have left a sanctuary.
[8:25]Rhaya’to Mhirlu: ass
[8:26]Rhaya’to Mhirlu: queue us for something before i make you do alliance raids
[8:29]Sablemont Rachenault: ur so mean to me
[8:30]Rhaya’to Mhirlu: Go.
Osamu leans back in his chair, taking a moment to roll his shoulders and crack his neck. He and Sable have been running dungeons for a while, but Osamu can only take so much before his brain starts to melt. Something with real mechanics, like a trial or a raid, would be nice, but Sable still has a few levels to go before they can jump into that.
He could always force Sable into something, but that’s no fun.
At least in low level content he’s able to show off to lower level players. And Sable. But mostly lower level players.
Duty registration complete.
[8:35]Rhaya'to Mhirlu: you need better gear before the next dungeon
[8:36]Sablemont Rachenault: ill get it from dungeons
[8:35]Rhaya'to Mhirlu: hahaha
[8:35]Rhaya'to Mhirlu: hahahahahahaha
[8:35]Rhaya'to Mhirlu: no you wont.
[8:37]Sablemont Rachenault: :/
[8:40]Rhaya'to Mhirlu: im making you gear whether you like it or not.
The queue pops and he sits up, waiting for everyone to confirm. The other players are also watching cutscenes, which probably means everyone’s new. Great.
[8:42]Rhaya'to Mhirlu: o/
[8:42]Sablemont Rachenault: o/
[8:43]Rhaya'to Mhirlu: mechanics are self explanatory
Once the dungeon starts, he takes off. He always assumes the healer knows what they’re doing, or at the very least expects him to pull every enemy he can.
This rarely works out in his favor. As soon as he dies a second time, Osamu decides to reign it in. He can only count on his damage mitigation so much, and he’d rather not waste everyone’s time or stress out the healer.
The healer is at least using the moves they’re supposed to, which means they’re decent. As soon as he slows down, the healer manages just fine.
He feels a little bad, just enough to make him slow down a little.
Really, he should keep going at his fast pace because it’s important for healers to learn to heal through large pulls. But he doesn’t feel like coming across as an asshole.
Helping Sablemont was making him overly charitable to low level players.
At least their fuck ups are funny.
It makes him miss playing with Atsumu, though he'd die before expressing that outloud. It'd go straight to his head, and Atsumu’s already insufferable enough.
At least he’s lucky enough to have normal DPS. The third member of their quartet, Attack, is a bit of a mystery to Osamu. He’s an Au Ra, a dragoon now focusing on reaper, and Atsumu is head over heels for him. They don’t spend much time together, but he can appreciate his good-at-melee-dps-ness. He has no idea how he and Atsumu became friends, nor does he particularly care. All that matters is he’s good.
And then, of course, there’s Sablemont. He’s, well… he’s Sablemont. He’s Sablemont, Osamu thinks with a dreamy internal sigh. He's good at black mage, and some other DPS classes. But who cares how good he is; he could suck and Osamu would still spend time with him.
Maybe he's playing favorites.
Sure, by all appearances Sablemont is just some guy, and in real life is probably way out of Osamu’s league. In either direction. But he’s fun to talk to, and fun to play with. Osamu has been wanting to broach the topic of becoming offline friends, but he needs to take baby steps.
Lest he fall victim to this line of thinking once more, Osamu quickly banishes his fond thoughts from his mind. They’re just friends.
He still gets excited when Sablemont is online.
Who wouldn’t?
At least he’s not in love with Sablemont, like Atsumu is with Attack.
That’s what he keeps telling himself, anyways.
You received a player commendation!
You received a player commendation!
You have entered a sanctuary.
[9:03]Rhaya'to Mhirlu: not so bad
[9:05]Rhaya'to Mhirlu: i prefer Yahta being my healer tho
[9:05]Sablemont Rachenault: want me to heal?
Osamu laughs as soon as he reads the message. He covers his mouth as if Sable can hear him.
[9:07]Rhaya'to Mhirlu: lol
[9:07]Rhaya'to Mhirlu: no
[9:08]Sablemont Rachenault: and just a week ago you were encouraging me to branch out to other classes
[9:08]Rhaya'to Mhirlu: its nothing personal im just used to playing with yahta
[9:09]Rhaya'to Mhirlu: ive been spoiled

Rhaya'to Mhirlu weeps with joy.
[9:11]Rhaya'to Mhirlu: i’ve ruined you
