Work Text:
Jungkook pushes the round edge of his glasses up on his nose as he looks into the mirror.
His freshly dyed peach hair is straightened over his ears, grown out just a tad because he thinks it looks pretty, his face looks soft from his moisturizer plus the dab of lip gloss that makes his lips become shiny, and the big white sweater that he’s got tucked into his skinny jeans looks cute.
He looks cute for the first day of class.
Today, Jungkook will start his second year of university. He takes a quick picture of his outfit to send to his group chat with Namjoon and Yoongi– his two closest friends.
He’d met them when he first started university; they were in the nearby book store just when Jungkook had walked in and they all three happened to go for the same book that was released on that day.
It was quite funny, the way the tallest nearly trampled over the shortest to try and get the book first. But as soon as the two men started bickering, Jungkook realized that they were already friends, especially judging by the dimpled smile and the way the shorter man’s laugh seemed like a normal occurrence.
“Namjoon-ah,” the shortest smacked lightly at Namjoon’s bicep, “you’re in this person’s way. You can’t just pick up a book and start reading in front of someone else who wants to look!”
Namjoon took his gaze away from the book that he’d opened and turned around, his eyes meeting Jungkook’s. Jungkook had told them, “No, no. It’s okay! I totally get it. I’ve been waiting for this book to come out for so long now. He can read. I can wait.”
But Namjoon moved out of the way and even picked the book off the shelf for Jungkook, holding it out to him.
“You like the series as well?”
And that’s how he met his first two university friends– the two who would show him around and tell him the ins and outs and the way things go around here. They showed him nearly all he knows about their school.
So, he’s excited to show them his cute outfit and tell them how he’s so ready for classes to start today.
He gets his cute bag that’s full of school supplies he’d recently bought more of and he makes his way out of his university apartment– he’d signed up for the apartments and ended up rooming with a random person, which happened to thankfully be Park Jimin; Jungkook is thankful to have such a fun and understanding roommate.
On his way to his first morning class, he stops by the shop for his usual coffee and feels so excited and pleased to be going to class again. He can’t get enough of this feeling.
The way his heart races for the beginning of the semester, the new faces wandering on campus and excitedly talking to their group of friends, and just the pure fulfillment of feeling accomplished as Jungkook goes to learn more and more– he’s always loved to learn things and he also loves how his parents are so proud of him and his accomplishments as well.
It's honestly fun.
School is a lot more enjoyable than what students give it credit for! Just because early alarms can get annoying sometimes and other students can be a pain in the ass, doesn’t mean that learning for a good cause can’t be fun to do. Jungkook is here to learn for his future. It should be a nice and fun experience, and he makes sure that it is.
Nothing can stop him from loving it.
He makes his way into his first class of the day and it’s so satisfying, the way that the very middle seat of the room is empty– his favorite spot.
There aren’t many people in there yet, so he simply zips his bag open over the spacious table and starts pulling out his cutesy supplies; multicolored pens, pastel pencils, the little sticky notes pad that has bananas on it which he loved so much and was very necessary to buy, his pastel yellow notebook to match the notepad, and he ends up leaving most other things in his bag.
To wait for class to start, he organizes everything neatly onto the desk and then decides to doodle a bit inside of the second notepad he bought, which is one specifically for doodling and drawing.
Perhaps he’d bought unnecessary things, sure, but now he has an entire notepad just for doodles! Imagine how many cute and cool things he can draw in his free time like this when he doesn’t have anything to study for.
Jungkook is in school for graphic art design. He’s in school for game designing, to be specific. He likes to draw and he loves to play games, so of course he’s in school to learn it.
And of course, his parents are all for his passion– as supporters of their son, they value the idea of Jungkook loving what he’s in school for and they love it even more because they know gaming is a big part of huge sales recently. Their son is smart and having fun.
As Jungkook doodles on his notepad, it’s also a sort of studying, he believes. He draws little game characters and a background as if it’s a real game, concentrating hard as he changes pens and eyes closely at his paper.
“Yahh! Kim Seokjin!”
It’s sort of hard to not glance up once someone yells out in the room. When he looks up, he knows exactly who he’s expecting to see– Kim Seokjin– but he still looks anyways simply because .
Kim Seokjin.
It’s hard to miss him when he walks into the room. Jungkook finds it sort of odd that the university’s most popular and most sporty student is in the graphic design class, but he never questioned it.
Kim Seokjin is very popular for many reasons. One, and most importantly, he’s very good-looking. With such a handsome face obviously comes fame and popularity points. Two, Seokjin plays sports; he plays soccer and baseball, from what Jungkook has heard. Playing sports is the easiest way to be well-known in University– Jungkook doesn’t have an interest in sports, but he did take on taekwondo for a few years in high school. And three, Kim Seokjin seems to be very talkative and interactive. Popular.
He’s the university’s favorite, so of course there’s a small group of athletes and pretty girls who greet him when he walks through the door.
Of course, they distract Jungkook.
He tries to doodle more before the professor comes in and he’s glad that the popular people sit towards the backside of the classroom, thankful to be left alone in the middle of the room.
People pile in more and more. The classroom honestly isn’t huge or anything too major, so Jungkook knows most of the people who come in because they’re all here for the same thing– another semester of design.
“Welcome, welcome.”
The professor looks nice in his new suit, Jungkook notices. He always notices things like this and it’s either because he’s focused so much on something or because he’s simply staring at the professor eagerly.
He greets the class and explains just what they’ll do this year, getting straight to the point because it’s their second year and they were already informed of what they’ll do from last year, so everything is pretty much familiar and the professor wastes no time.
“Now, since we’re all settled in.” He pulls up a slide on his computer which is connected to the screen up front for the entire class to see. The screen has a list of different graphic designs and formats for gaming. “Starting off this semester nice and easy, I’m going to assign you to partners and I’ll let you have fun with making and designing your own mini-game. You will do background design, character design, animations, and even minor gameplay. Just the simple things we learned last year, correct?”
Jungkook smiles to himself just thinking about such a big project. It sounds fun already, being allowed to design a mini game.
“Partners will be generated randomly,” the professor explains, “and I’ll do it right now just to show you guys that it’s all random and not rigged , as most of you would probably say. So, shall we?”
He clicks on a website he had pulled up already and it has the class names listed already. All he has to do is click one button, which he does, and then the names are thrown into partners of two.
Immediately, Jungkook pushes his glasses closer to his face as he leans forward and widens his eyes, searching the list for his name.
“These will be your partners, and no questions asked. Designing and creating is all about the difference in opinions and working together until all parties are satisfied. So now we’ll talk about the rules and guidelines.”
Jungkook listens well, but as soon as he finally finds his name on the screen, he smiles. Excited to find out who his partner is, he quickly looks over beside his name and his heart races–
Kim Seokjin
Jungkook’s lips part and his brain stops working for a split second. His name is right next to Kim Seokjin’s. Out of all the people in this class…
“I’ll be sending you guys an email with the basics, but by the end of this semester is when the due date will be. I’ll send that over as well.”
By the end of this semester.
The entire semester?
Jungkook has a whole semester to work on a mini game, to work with animations, to make little game characters, and to have fun with this project– but his partner is Kim Seokjin?
Kim Seokjin? Seriously?
He turns his head over his shoulder to look behind him, where he saw Seokjin sitting earlier, only to see that the jock already has his eyes on him.
His gaze is darker than Jungkook remembers– not that they've ever looked eyes before– and he’s looking right back at Jungkook as if to ask the same question Jungkook has: How the hell are they partners? How the hell is this going to work out?
Just by first glance at Kim Seokjin’s name alone, Jungkook immediately had doubts that this would go well. He isn’t even sure if Seokjin is serious about game design or if he’s just in the class for funsies.
There’s no way this will go well. Seokjin is popular and he’s all about sports and sporty things. Jungkook takes his classes very seriously, so this mister popular Kim Seokjin better buckle in and get ready to work or fail on his own, because Jungkook will not hold back on this project and will not give credit to someone who doesn't deserve it.
Once the class is dismissed, Jungkook immediately stands up from his seat, tugs his bag over his shoulders, and then straightens out his adorable sweater before making his way towards where Seokjin was– where he still is, chatting with some muscular dude.
As he takes his last few steps up to the man, both he and his friend look up at Jungkook and then Seokjin glances down at Jungkook’s hands, where he’s got his fingers wrapped around his bag straps tightly.
“Um. K-Kim Seokjin..?”
He has no idea what to say once he’s there. He didn’t plan anything, and now he stumbles over his words with eyes staring back at him.
“Jeon Jungkook, I’m guessing?” Seokjin responds, his eyebrow cocked and a slightly amused look on his face. Jungkook tilts his head in confusion at Seokjin’s words– because why is he pretending to not know Jungkook’s name if he was just staring at him from across the room? “So you’re my partner, huh? You need something, or..?”
Jungkook blinks a few times as he thinks. “I- I just need your number or something so we can talk about the project.”
The dude beside Seokjin gives a teasing ooh and smacks at Seokjin’s arm. “Seokjin-ah,” he teases more, “he’s asking you for your number. Sounds like a competition for the girls, huh?”
Seokjin nudges hard at the guy’s ribs and Jungkook gulps down his dry throat as he becomes warm just thinking about what he’s implying right now. Before he can say anything, Seokjin does.
“Hey, shut up you dummy. It’s not like that.” He holds his hand out to Jungkook from where he’s still sitting, wiggling his fingers a bit. “Your phone. Give it to me.”
“Um.” Jungkook takes the straps of his bag off and notices the silence between the two once his pastel pink bag comes into view. He ignores their stares and instead of taking his phone out, he takes the notepad he was drawing on and holds it out to Seokjin’s hand. “I didn’t bring my phone. Just write your number down and I’ll text you later.”
Seokjin observes the notepad– the small drawings on the paper– and he hums before stealing his friend’s pen and jotting his phone number down on the top corner of the page, where there’s free space.
“Cute notepad,” the jock says in full confidence as he holds it back out to him.
Jungkook is sort of hesitant as he takes it back because he can see it in the man’s eyes– the way his gaze is set hard on Jungkook with a hint of amusement laced in them– that Seokjin wants to say something more, yet he doesn’t. He leaves it at that.
“Thank you,” Jungkook mumbles quietly. He ignores the way Seokjin’s friend stares at the jock in confusion as if he’s surprised that his friend is saying such a thing. “I’ll text you later if that’s okay?”
Seokjin nods. “Sure is.”
Now that step one is done, Jungkook feels a little more assured. However, he still isn’t so sure how working with Kim Seokjin will work out. He isn’t sure how two opposites will work together.
He’ll just have to hope for the best.
———
It takes far too long before Seokjin becomes free to start their project because he has other classes on top of soccer practice– which is upsetting to Jungkook, but he understands.
The worst part isn’t that he hasn’t gotten to work on the project with Seokjin, but the fact that he can’t start anything at all until he goes over the basics with him. He can’t even jot down ideas or plan anything until he knows exactly what they’re going to do.
And Seokjin is so busy.
Annoying.
But even if it’s annoying, at least they have the entire semester and Jungkook has more time to study and get ready for his other classes. He also has time to go shopping for extra supplies he needs and maybe some clothes that catch his eyes along the way.
Now… Jungkook isn’t exactly one to spend money on things he doesn’t really need– except he is the one to.
Jungkook buys seaweed snacks and banana notepads. He buys himself flowers to make his room smell good and he always gets distracted when he goes shopping and sees a cute skirt or sweater. Jungkook buys everything cute or pretty he comes across and he buys snacks he doesn’t need– which he shares with Jimin most of the time.
But this time when he goes shopping, he’s got a pastel pink skirt with a matching fuzzy sweater in his cart.
This time when he goes shopping, he buys cute clothes and it makes him feel less stressed from the fact that he can’t start the project yet. He feels great when he gets home and gets to try on the outfit. It's so pretty on him.
But as he’s standing in front of his mirror to admire the cute skirt, he gets a text dinging from across his bedroom. He goes over to see who’s texting him, only for his eyes to widen at the message he received.
Kim Seokjin
- You live with Park Jimin??
- I’m outside let me in
Seokjin was not supposed to come over today– not that Jungkook remembers, anyways. And he didn’t know that Seokjin knows where Jimin lives, either. They must know each other.
Since he’s here so unexpectedly, Jungkook has to hurry his skirt off and change it for a pair of white skinny jeans– which match cutely, but changing so quickly made him a little dizzy and so did running to the apartment door to open it for Seokjin.
“Why are you so red?”
Jungkook blinks at the man, puzzled at such a question, and he raises his hand to his cheek as he holds tight onto the door handle.
“I’m not red,” he lets out, hoping it’s true. He opens the door wider. “Come inside. We need to start the project. That’s what you’re here for, right?”
Seokjin nods as he’s let in and they walk towards the kitchen table. Seokjin must be familiar with the university’s apartment layouts. “You didn’t answer my question,” Seokjin tells him. “This is Jimin’s apartment, isn’t it?”
“I’m Jimin’s roommate.” Those words make Seokjin’s lips part into the shape of an o, but Jungkook ignores the irrelevancy. “I’ll go get my things and then we can talk about the project. You… Didn’t you bring anything to work with?” he asks as he scans Seokjin; he has nothing on him.
Seokjin digs into his navy blue hoodie pocket and then pulls out a pencil, waving it into the air. “I sure did. Right here.”
Jungkook wants to sigh at the poor sight, but he goes and brings Seokjin an extra one of his notebooks to use– the one he just bought specifically for taking miscellaneous notes; it wasn’t important to have anyways, but it is a cute little pink notebook he found at the store.
“Here.”
He sets his things out on the table and organizes as he usually does– the pens, his notebook, sticky notes, folders, and his laptop– and then he slowly slides the notebook he brought for Seokjin over the table towards where he's sitting.
Seokjin eyes the notebook, but he takes it and opens it curiously. “There’s nothing in this,” he states. Jungkook chuckles lightly at him.
“I know. I just bought it today. You can use it, though. You’ll need to take notes so you can remember what to think about for the game.”
“Oh. You could’ve just given me a piece of paper. That would’ve been fine.”
“Well.” Jungkook sits across from Seokjin and opens his laptop. “You can keep it. You should’ve brought something anyway, other than just a pencil,” he argues just as Seokjin goes to hold up his wooden pencil.
Seokjin huffs. “I don’t need tons of notebooks and colorful pencils,” he says as he scans over Jungkook’s setup. “It’s cute, I guess. But I had free time while I was out and you told me we could work whenever, just to knock on your door whenever I was ready.”
“So you must’ve taken it literally?” Jungkook asks, holding back the smallest smile as Seokjin tries to as well. He can see the corners of Seokjin’s lips tug up the second his head falls to hide the smile. “You didn’t tell me you were coming over. What did you do? Find a pencil on the ground and decide to come work or something?”
“This is actually Jimin’s pencil.” Seokjin rubs at the back of his neck as he glances back up at Jungkook. “I saw him going to his class on the way up the stairs and he let me borrow it because I told him I had nothing. He knew you'd say something I guess. In my defense, I just came straight from a soccer meeting! It was tough, okay?”
Jungkook’s smile grows bigger. He decides not to hide it. “Well, soccer boy, I’m just glad you’re here at all. Now let’s get started with the game. I’ve wanted to draw so many ideas all week.”
It goes silent for a moment as Seokjin stares from across the table.
“Did you just call me soccer boy? ”
Jungkook bites back the smile and nods. “Should we make a soccer game? Would that be something you like?”
Seokjin leans back in his chair and Jungkook averts his eyes as he realizes that he’s just going to sit there and observe him, sit there and look at Jungkook for forever, or maybe he’s thinking as he looks at him.
“Soccer?” he questions after a moment. Jungkook peeks up at him, pushes his hands neatly between his thighs, and sits up straight as Seokjin still has his gaze set on him. He looks intimidating all of a sudden. “I don’t think we should. Maybe we should make a cute game, hm? Cute like you?”
Jungkook’s heart involuntarily skips a beat once he sees Seokjin’s lips tug into a smirk. “W-What?”
“You heard me.”
Seokjin presses his pencil to the notebook and its very first marking is a bullet point and beside it: ‘Cute like Jeon Jungkook-ssi’
Jungkook’s lips part as he reads the line over and over. Not only did he just confidently write that, but Seokjin slides his wrist over the table and his index finger lands right on top of Jungkook’s pink pen, steals it as he slides it towards him, and then he opens the pen and underlines the words in pink.
“There we go. We’ll make a cute game.”
Cute like Jeon Jungkook-ssi.
Right..
“Um. O-Okay, I guess we’ll do a cute game then. I don’t mind doing that if you don’t.”
Seokjin spins the pink pen between his fingers as he beams. “I’m the one who suggested it. Of course I’m okay with it.”
Why did he suggest such a thing though? Because Jungkook suggested soccer? Does he actually think Jungkook is cute? It’s a compliment, for sure, but it throws Jungkook off– he’s used to people making fun of him for all the cutesy things, which is why he hides the fact that he wears skirts and things similar, and he isn’t used to positive comments like this. He isn’t used to someone like Seokjin calling him cute.
It didn’t sound like he was making fun of him.
It sounded like… something else.
“Well? Any suggestions?” Seokjin asks, breaking Jungkook out of his endless train of thoughts. He blinks at his empty notebook and his blank laptop notes as well. He’s totally unable to think now, with Seokjin’s words in mind.
“Um. I’m better at drawing than anything.”
From across the table, Seokjin hums in delight. “That’s good. I’m great with ideas and not so much with drawing. We’ll make a wonderful team won’t we, Jungkook-ssi?”
Jungkook fixes the collar of his sweater and clears his throat.
“Y-Yeah. I guess we will, then.”
———
The next time Jungkook meets up with Seokjin, it’s not at his apartment but instead at the university cafeteria.
They meet there because Seokjin claims he works better when food is involved and Jungkook is never one to say no to food, so he meets him. Usually not that many people stare or glance over at Jungkook– not for reasons like this, anyways. Not because he’s sitting with Seokjin.
There’s a group of boys at a nearby table that peek over a few times as they talk and Jungkook knows they’re Seokjin’s friends because not only are they all athletes, but Jimin is also over there and when Jungkook glances over at him and their eyes meet, Jimin winks at his roommate.
Jungkook clears his throat.
“Can we start working now?” he asks.
The two have simply been sitting there eating away. They have bulgogi in front of them, which Seokjin had actually offered to pay for, and unlike Seokjin who has a coke in front of him, Jungkook is drinking iced tea.
Kim Seokjin’s treat.
“Yeah, sure.” Seokjin ate much faster than Jungkook did, so he sets his empty plate to the side, but Jungkook rushes to finish his off. He stuffs his face with the rest of the meat and doesn’t notice Seokjin’s stare– not until he peeks up with his chopsticks hovering in front of his lips and his cheeks rounded cutely by his meal.
He quickly chews and swallows, his brain very kindly reminding him repeatedly just how embarrassing he is. From the corner of his eye, Seokjin lifts the back of his hand up to his mouth to cover his smile.
So embarrassing.
“Stop watching me and get your laptop out,” Jungkook says with his lips in a pout as he speaks. Seokjin holds his smile back and does exactly what he’s told, but he’s clearly still amused.
Once Jungkook is done eating, he gets his own laptop out– which is all they’d agreed to bring– and they begin working on their project. It goes smoother now that they have the basics pretty much sorted out and because they’ve filled themselves full of energy.
They talk over the table about this and that, working together in the same note document and sharing ideas.
But it isn’t even ten minutes in that Jungkook feels something brush up against his shoe. He feels the weight.
At first, he thinks it’s a mistake. Seokjin’s just across from him, so it’s easy for their feet to accidentally hit each other or touch beneath the table. But then the weight is constant and it brushes slowly against Jungkook’s shoe, up and down and very consistent.
Seokjin is doing it on purpose.
Jungkook’s head peeks up over his laptop and before he knows it, he’s turning red. The older’s ears are a bit red as well and he avoids eye contact with Jungkook at all costs– that is until Jungkook clears his throat in order to get his attention.
When Seokjin does look up at him, Jungkook tilts his head and furrows his eyebrows, giving him a ‘What the hell are you doing right now?’ type of look. Seokjin also clears his throat as he quickly pulls his foot back and instead of mentioning it, he points to his laptop.
“Um. I sent you the animation tutorial I was talking about earlier. It should be in your emails.”
Jungkook gulps as he looks back down at his laptop and now that he’s hidden behind the screen, he feels less shy as he slowly inches his foot forward to search for Seokjin’s again– because he doesn’t want things to be awkward by rejecting the gesture, yet he has no idea why Seokjin was doing it to begin with or why he’s doing it in return.
But he does.
He feels the side of Seokjin’s foot and he gently soothes his own against it just like Seokjin was doing to his, except now the jock glances back up at him. Jungkook ignores his look and bites back the tiniest smile as Seokjin gives into it again. They’re playing footsie.
Holy shit, we’re playing footsie.
Jungkook didn’t truly understand it at first, but now as he blushes behind his laptop screen, as he hears whispers from nearby students, and as Seokjin plays back, he knows exactly what they’re doing.
It shouldn’t get his heart feeling all weird and fuzzy, yet it does. He definitely feels his heart do a thing and butterflies swarm his tummy as the gesture continues throughout their session.
It’s totally impossible for one of the jocks– the most popular and most handsome guy in school– to be flirting with me right now. There’s no way Kim Seokjin would ever like me like that.
Right?
———
Today, Jungkook wishes he can crawl up into a hole and never come out for the rest of his life– here’s why:
He felt so pretty because he bought a pair of white lace panties to match the brand new white skirt he bought online. The skirt is so lovely on him and hugs his tiny waist so well, and the panties make him feel so risky, so sweet, and so pretty. It’s so nice to wear these things and to feel this way.
He even puts on white mesh stockings and sits on the bed with his mirror reflecting his appearance from the corner of the bedroom.
The outfit is so cute and Jungkook is admiring it so well– but then there’s a knock on his door that makes him flinch and his heart races the second he hears the click of his door and what the fuck?
The door swings open.
“Jungkook-ssi– oh.”
All he can do is sit there with his jaw slack and eyes wide as he looks at the person standing in his bedroom door.
Jimin was who he was expecting, being his roommate and all. It would’ve been fine if it was Jimin because Jungkook had actually planned on showing and telling Jimin about the pretty fits he buys anyways, all because Jimin is very encouraging and nice.
But he is not even close to being Park Jimin.
Why and how is Kim Seokjin in Jungkook's apartment, why is he opening Jungkook’s door, and why is he staring at him like that— with his eyes wide, lips sealed shut, his hand clasping the door, and his ears turning so red?
Jungkook simply sits at the corner of his bed, wondering how much a flight to London costs right about now.
“W-Why are you here?” He picks up the corner of his blanket to try and hide the skirt, but it doesn’t reach nearly far enough and he gives up because Seokjin’s already seen it anyways.
“I texted you,” Seokjin mutters almost too quietly. “Jimin let me in and told me to go to your room. I- I don’t know. I’m just here to work on the project. That’s all.”
Jungkook grimaces. “You don’t just knock and then open someone’s door immediately after. What if I was naked or something?!”
Or something.
“I’m sorry.” Seokjin’s head falls as he rubs at the back of his neck, right where the top of his hoodie sits. “I thought you knew I was coming. And… If you’re trying to cover up, you really shouldn’t. The skirt… Your outfit is really cute. You shouldn’t hide it.”
Flustered and scared of Jimin hearing his words, Jungkook rushes off of his bed to go and pull Seokjin into the room by his hoodie, holding tight onto the fabric as he shuts his door and raises his gaze back onto the older.
He blushes, however, once he realizes that he’s holding onto Seokjin’s chest and there’s no room between them and the entrance of the bedroom. Jungkook’s given him no space.
It’s so quick, the way Seokjin’s eyes fall to look at Jungkook’s outfit and then their eyes meet again. Then, Seokjin’s eyes fall to his lips. Jungkook panics as soon as that happens and he lets go of Seokjin before backing away and turning around to hide his red cheeks.
“Dummy.”
There’s a light chuckle from behind him and at least it feels like he can breathe again as he goes and looks for a pair of sweatpants or something other than this outfit so he won’t be judged.
“Jungkook-ah,” Seokjin drags his vowels out. He steps towards Jungkook and stops the younger from picking up the sweats, instead pulling his wrist away from the drawer. Jungkook blushes even harder as he faces Seokjin, who looks down at the skirt again. “You’re really cute in this. Don’t change out of it.”
His fingers hover over the hem of the skirt and Jungkook gulps. “S-Stop it. It just sounds like you’re teasing me now.”
“Well I’m not. I’m being serious.” Seokjin slowly lifts his hand to not startle Jungkook and he brushes his fingers over Jungkook’s peach locks, tucking his hair behind his ear and then examining the younger’s eyes again. “Here I was thinking there’s no way you could get cuter.”
Jungkook’s heart feels fuzzy yet again.
Fuck.
“What do you want from me, Kim Seokjin?”
A small smile appears on Seokjin’s lips. “Just be confident in yourself.” Seokjin cups the back of his head, earning a slow, heavy gasp from Jungkook as he leans into the younger’s ear. His lips brush against Jungkook’s skin and he’s so warm, so enticing. “I really like cute things, Jungkook-ah.”
Seokjin’s fingers gradually slip away once he does as well, backing away to go towards the door. “I’ll wait at the table for you. Change if you want to or don’t if you’re comfortable.” He leaves the room and closes the door.
Jungkook takes a moment to gather his thoughts, but he eventually decides against changing out of the skirt before he makes his way out of the bedroom as well.
Seokjin likes cute things. If that’s really the case, then Jungkook has no problem with showing off his new and adorable outfit to him.
Seokjin must like the outfit.
That makes Jungkook feel… nice .
———
Jungkook found out very vital information: Seokjin thinks pink is cute.
So, the next time they set a date to work on their project, Jungkook made sure to invite Seokjin over and he made sure to wear the pink sweater and skirt he’d bought recently.
It’s such an aesthetically cute outfit and Jungkook may still be a little nervous to openly wear such things in front of Seokjin, but with the way Seokjin kept glancing at him and complimenting him last time he was over and even in class now, Jungkook is totally excited to show off again.
When Seokjin knocks on the door, Jungkook opens it and pulls him inside, hardly giving the older a chance to notice the outfit before he closes the door. But once they’re standing in the doorway, Seokjin scans over Jungkook with those dark brown eyes of his.
Jungkook lowers his head shyly and lifts his finger to the bridge of his nose, scurrying his glasses back up as they fall a little.
“So you’re just trying to give me a cuteness overload now?”
The younger smiles and picks at the base of his sweater– the pink fuzz swallows his body and nearly the skirt as well.
“You said you like pink, right?” he asks, which causes Seokjin to smile as well. Maybe Seokjin’s handsomeness is getting to him or maybe Jungkook is just so into hot men, but Seokjin’s smile is so attractive.
“I knew it.” Seokjin brushes the back of his fingers down Jungkook’s sweater, right down his tummy where heat surges through and he shudders at the older’s touch. “You’re wearing pink just for me, huh? Is this your way of getting my attention? You already had it, you know.”
Jungkook huffs to hide his shyness as he turns his back to Seokjin and goes towards the dining table where he has all his notes and his laptop set up. “I don’t need your attention,” he says as he sits down.
Seokjin steps up to the table as well, but instead of sitting across from Jungkook like he normally does, he stands next to him and places his hand down, hovering over Jungkook.
“No need to be so shy, Jungkook-ah. You can dress all pretty and cute for me if you want.” He confidently tucks the peach hair behind Jungkook’s ear yet again and Jungkook tries his damndest to hide his blush, but it’s no use. “You’re cute when you’re all flustered.”
As if to brush him off, Jungkook untucks his hair and lifts his chin to look up at the man, narrowing his eyes with no real harm intended.
“You’re really confusing me. Why are you flirting with me so much, soccer boy?” This question earns a smirk from Seokjin. “Shouldn’t you flirt with someone more in your lane? Someone– Anyone else?”
“Hm. I guess you wouldn’t know,” Seokjin starts as he leans in closer to become eye-to-eye with Jungkook, “but you are in my lane. I told you I like cute things, didn’t I?”
There’s no way.
Kim Seokjin plays sports, is knowingly the most handsome guy in the university, and he’s so popular and hot that any girl would– and most likely does– throw themselves onto him. Seokjin could have anyone in the school or outside of it. Just because he likes cute things and flirts a little won’t convince Jungkook.
Because Jungkook is the complete opposite of him, right?
Jungkook is very studious and doesn’t show up to work on projects with a pencil only. People look at Jungkook and probably think wow, he’s such a bookworm, a soft little nerd. They’d never think he’s athletic or a popular guy at first glance.
In fact, they take second glances at him for the opposite reason that they take second glances at Seokjin. Jungkook wears pastel fuzzy sweaters and lipgloss. Seokjin wears a hoodie with his little sport number on the back of it and sporty things like sweatsuits or things that really make him look more handsome such as slacks with a nice shirt or trendy clothes.
People take second glances at Seokjin because he’s really hot and he’s a popular jock. They take second glances at Jungkook because he looks pretty and owns up to that.
But even if Seokjin likes cute things, there’s no way he could like Jungkook. That would be quite the joke for him to pull– and Jungkook wouldn’t laugh at it either.
“You must have the wrong lane, I’m sorry.”
Seokjin shakes his head. “Who are you to tell me which lane is mine and which isn’t?” he asks, then adds, “Is it a crime to think you’re cute? Is it a crime to flirt with you, Jungkook-ah?”
“Yes. You shouldn’t flirt with someone you don’t like.”
“Wow.” Seokjin lets out an amused laugh. “You really like to assume a lot, don’t you?”
Jungkook averts his eyes as his heart rate picks back up just thinking about the possibility of being liked. It’s not funny if Seokjin is joking, but Jungkook’s heart races impossibly faster once Seokjin reaches down and wraps his fingers around his, taking his hand and gently squeezing.
“If you don’t like it then I’ll stop.” His hold becomes firmer. “But we’ve got all semester together, Jungkook. If you ever want me, all you’ve gotta do is say the word.”
He lets go of Jungkook’s hand and goes to the opposite side of the table, where he sits down silently.
Jungkook isn’t sure what to think. But he does know that he likes the feeling of Seokjin’s hand holding his.
Maybe he would like more of Kim Seokjin.
They decide to cook dinner this time because they have the entire day to work on the project together.
When they start preparing everything, Jungkook finds out that Seokjin knows what he’s doing when it comes to cooking; he says a ton of things that Jungkook hardly knows and he chuckles at how Jungkook and Jimin only have a few ingredients to cook with, but he rolls with it anyways and tells Jungkook what he’s going to make for dinner.
Eventually there’s nothing for Jungkook to help with as the food simmers, so he just finds a nearby seat– he pushes himself up onto the kitchen counter and crosses his feet below him.
His legs are cold against the counter, but it’s worth it to be wearing such a pretty skirt, he thinks, because Seokjin glances at the outfit yet again. He feels beyond pretty with every second glance he gets from Seokjin.
“When will the food be done?”
“Not sure.” Seokjin shrugs as he steps up to the counter as well, leaning over onto it right next to Jungkook. “Why? Trying to get rid of me so soon, Jungkook-ah?” he asks and Jungkook giggles.
“Of course not.” He playfully hits Seokjin’s thigh with his dangling foot, earning a big smile in return. But then he shudders as Seokjin reaches for his leg and grabs ahold of his calf.
Every time he touches Jungkook even in the simplest ways, it makes him feel a certain way which he probably shouldn’t. But Seokjin’s hold on his leg feels like a preview; a teaser.
“Then we have a little time before the food is done,” Seokjin tells him.
He’s a bit hesitant with his touch, but he slides his fingers and palm gently against Jungkook’s skin, a feathery caress which makes Jungkook shudder again, gulping at the touch.
“W-What do we do while we wait then?”
A smirk appears on Seokjin’s face following Jungkook’s question and just like many times before, there’s amusement laced within his eyes as he gazes up at him. “Whatever you want, cutie.”
Cutie .
It’s no surprise that Jungkook blushes, especially as Seokjin eyes his lips and then their gaze meets once more.
“Whatever I want?”
A glint of something flashes in Seokjin’s eyes and he repositions himself, placing his hands on both sides of Jungkook as he stands in front of him. He's impossibly close now.
“Anything you want.”
Though it’s not something Jungkook would normally do, the silence between them and the way Seokjin is standing so close to him makes him feel invincible. The way Seokjin’s hoodie brushes against his knees softly feels heavenly, like yet another tease.
He lifts his hand a bit hesitantly up to the opening of Seokjin’s hoodie and gently pulls at it, urging the older to come a little closer. Seokjin leans in extremely close and Jungkook gets a smell of the nice cologne that Seokjin uses, breathing in the lovely woodsy scent.
Seokjin’s face is mere inches away and once again his eyes fall to Jungkook’s lips. This time, Jungkook deems it enough and holds tight onto the thick fabric between his fingers as he leans down to meet Seokjin and finally, his courage brings him to Seokjin’s lips, mashing them together one sudden and elongated time before he realizes what he’s doing and pulls away shyly.
But Seokjin’s hands trail up his thighs and he pulls Jungkook closer, the younger wrapping his legs around Seokjin as he’s kissed back, caressed at his weak thighs as Seokjin drags his lips and kisses him deeper.
Seokjin doesn’t let the kiss stay short and sweet like before. He presses his fingertips into Jungkook’s thigh just under the seam of his skirt and he licks over Jungkook’s lips, teasing now more than ever.
Heat surges through Jungkook’s tummy and his lower area as Seokjin’s hands slide further up his thighs and under his skirt, so he combs his fingers through Seokjin’s hair, pulling him in for a heavier and needier kiss.
He hums once their tongues meet and Seokjin grips tighter onto his skin, a low moan leaving his lips as Jungkook tugs lightly at his hair.
Seokjin is the one who pulls away from the kiss, both of them needy for air as they breathe in heavily, looking each other in the eyes. The jock’s eyes are dark, but he blinks a few times as if to get a grip and Jungkook has to inhale one big time to do the same and calm down.
“Hyung.” Jungkook darts his gaze towards the simmering pot on the stove and attempts to distract Seokjin. “You’re burning our dinner,” he lies.
On full alert, Seokjin rushes to the stove to stir the pot and his eyebrows crease together in confusion.
“It’s hardly even boiling yet.”
But Jungkook hops off the counter and just as fast as Seokjin had rushed to save the food, Jungkook rushes to the dining table to save himself from any sort of embarrassment. He hides at the table and lets Seokjin cook the rest of dinner by himself, but the moment Seokjin walks towards the table with two bowls in his hand, Jungkook can no longer hide from him.
“Well.” Seokjin sits across from him and clears his throat. They have their dinner bowls in front of them and Jungkook’s cheeks are as red as Seokjin’s ears. “You know, most people kiss after going on their first date, Jungkook-ah.”
Jungkook grips tightly onto his skirt as he blushes even harder. “Y-You told me I could do anything I wanted.”
“And you wanted to kiss me?”
“You want to date me?” Jungkook asks in return. He isn’t expecting much out of it– after all, he was only trying to throw Seokjin off just as much as he did him, but it doesn’t seem to work because the older smiles widely at him.
“I’d love to go on a date with you.” He looks as cheeky and confident as ever, pure mirth in his eyes. “Thought you’d never ask me, cutie.”
For a few seconds, he thinks Seokjin is joking. But then he remembers thinking that Seokjin was flirting with him as a joke as well, and he never expected to be kissed by him today.
“Give me one good reason why I should go on a date with you, soccer boy.”
Seokjin lets out a small chuckle, then points at Jungkook’s bowl. “The food you’re eating is filled with my want for you, Jungkook-ah.” Jungkook grimaces– or he tries to, but it turns into a smile because Seokjin laughs at his own joke.
“You’re unbelievable.”
“Does that mean you’ll date me?”
Jungkook picks up his bowl and sips the stew, tasting the delicious ‘want’ that Seokjin filled it with. “Only if you plan to kiss me at the end of the date.”
———
It’s a chilly Saturday afternoon when Seokjin picks Jungkook up for their date. He greets Jungkook with pink flowers and a soft smile on his face. He doesn’t wear his usual hoodie, but he wears a nice button-up shirt and slacks– nothing too formal though, just like Jungkook who wears a pretty sweater and nice jeans to go with.
Jungkook cherishes the flowers with all his heart and soul, and he loves where Seokjin takes him to because it's a simple place; they go to a cafe for tea and dessert.
It’s always been pretty easy to talk to Seokjin while they were working on their project, but in such a casual and flirtatious way, the two get along so well it makes his heart flutter.
They talk about their interests such as gaming and food, talk about school, talk about their personal life such as Seokjin and his sports and Jungkook with his favorite books– he also finds out that Seokjin reads books sometimes, which he didn’t expect from the jock.
Jungkook isn’t sure why he only refers to Seokjin as a jock– he’s been limiting Seokjin to just some popular jock; just an athlete; just that guy that everybody knows and loves– but with how interested in game design he is, how he’s so gentle when he brushes Jungkook’s soft peach hair out of his eyes, how he’s interested in books as well, and how funny he is with his jokes, Jungkook was seriously limiting Kim Seokjin even though he didn’t know him.
Kim Seokjin isn’t friends with anyone and everyone, he just has a lot of acquaintances from playing sports. He’s popular because the university and students say so and not because he wants to be, Seokjin tells him over tea.
Seokjin also tells Jungkook that he wanted to prove him wrong the moment Jungkook had asked him ‘Shouldn’t you flirt with someone in your lane?’
“My lane is right here,” Seokjin lets out, gesturing to the both of them on their date. “I like flirting with you and making you get all shy. I like how cute and how precise you are. I like you.”
Seokjin picks up his cup of tea and his eyes go a little wide as he sips it while still trying to hold eye contact with Jungkook. He looks like a dork and Jungkook can’t help but smile at him.
“I like you too,” he mumbles as he picks up and sips his own tea, always trying to hide his red cheeks.
“Cute.”
Seokjin slides his hand over the table and though there’s a few glances by students in their way, Jungkook hides his face with one palm over his glasses and reaches out for Seokjin’s with his free hand. Seokjin holds his hand and chuckles as Jungkook turns all shy.
“People are starting at us.”
Seokjin squeezes his hand gently. “It’s because you’re so cute, Jungkookie. Can I call you that?” he asks a bit hesitantly. Jungkook nods his head.
“It’ll cost you another kiss, though.”
As if it’s nothing at all, Seokjin snatches the cafe menu and holds it up to hide his face from people around as he leans over the table and to his surprise, pecks Jungkook right on the lips. “There you go, Jungkookie. All good?”
If all good is equal to feeling extremely warm in his tummy and heart, then sure. Everything’s perfect.
“All good,” he promises and then quietly asks, “But.. can you do it again?”
