“Excuse me, what?”
Taion could only stare in disbelief at Eunie as she straightened out her bed mat on the ground, much closer to his than he would have liked. She straightened up with a satisfied grin, looking up at him once again with a hint of mischief.
“You heard me, sleep with me.” She said, as though her words were as clear as day and that he shouldn’t be making such a fuss over a simple request. She sounded almost annoyed.
“You want me to… sleep with you?” He repeated, Eunie rolling her eyes as she gestured to her bed mat.
“I meant actual sleep four-eyes, not whatever is going through that dirty head of yours. Honestly, when was the last time you bathed?” She asked, waving her hand in front of her nose to signify a horrible smell. Taion merely glared at her, ignoring the sudden warmth on his cheeks.
“I-I knew what you meant, Eunie. My question is why ?” He asked, Eunie sitting cross-legged on the ground, patting Taion’s mat across from hers as an invitation for him to join her. Without even thinking he sat without hesitation, cursing himself for following her unspoken request so easily. What she was asking was preposterous, simply ridiculous. Sleep? With him? For what purpose could that achieve?
“Well, I’ve been feeling real lonely with this traveling and all. So what better way to relieve stress than to sleep with someone? I thought you of all people would understand that.” Eunie said, Taion sighing as he laid back on his mat, his hand resting over his eyes.
“You’re not going to give up on this, are you?” He said, though he already knew the answer as Eunie laid down next to him on her mat.
“You know me so well. Sweet dreams.” She said with a cheeky smile, turning away from him and seemingly falling asleep. She was so unbearably close to Taion that he resisted the urge to push her away. Or pull her close. He wasn’t entirely sure what he wanted, but he turned away from her and followed suit, attempting to fall asleep and ignoring the presence of his teammate right beside him.
He awoke once more some time later, noting how all of the lights had been turned off and that the area was now completely dark. He had had a nightmare, or well, the same nightmare he had every night. He didn’t want to dwell on it for too long as he flipped himself over, though as soon as he did he bumped into something. Or rather, someone.
He sighed as he recalled that Eunie had insisted on sleeping close to him, but somehow it seemed she had shifted more towards him. He wondered if it was intentional or if she was having a restless night herself. He didn’t have long to wonder as he felt her flip over, one of her wings hitting his face as she turned towards him. Her face was now equal to his chin, causing his heart to race even more so than it had been before. This was getting out of hand, but what exactly could he do? He had given in to her demands, he only had himself to blame.
Taion tried his best to not panic as he felt Eunie’s arm be strewn across his stomach. He wondered if this was accidental or if she was trying to torture him. What he didn’t expect was for her to immediately grip onto him, pulling him towards her before he could even have the sense to pull away. He felt his mouth press against what he assumed was her forehead, causing him to panic even more as he tried to gently move away to no avail. Eunie had an iron grip on him and it seemed she wasn’t going to let go of him anytime soon as she buried her face into his chest.
Taion felt his arms begin to lose feeling after laying on them for some time. He had not been expecting to do this but it was starting to grow painful. He shimmied his arms out from under his body and draped over Eunie’s body as he did his best to touch as little of her as possible. She may have pulled him into this compromising position but he’d most likely never hear the end of it if she found them like this. That is until he felt her trembling.
He recalled seeing her hands tremble before after she had been staring off into space for some time, but never her whole body. He truly wondered if she was having nightmares of her own, or maybe she was cold. He sighed with defeat as he allowed his once limp arms to curl around her body, drawing her as close to him as he could. He briefly debated untying his scarf to wrap around her, then decided against it as this would already raise enough questions as it is.
Eunie’s head bumped gently against his lips, causing Taion to wonder if she was trying to get him to kiss her forehead in her sleep. It must have been a terrible nightmare for her subconscious to be reacting like this to him. He pondered for a moment on what to do, before deciding he was already too far in and may as well cast caution to the wind. He pressed his lips against her forehead in a gentle kiss, briefly wondering what Eunie’s lips would feel like before immediately dismissing the thought. Her close proximity to him was messing with his rational thought, that’s all. Not her hair and feathers feeling soft against his skin, or how her warmth was making his eyes droop. Her grip had loosened so it wasn’t so much as hurting him anymore but…comforting him. He truly must have gone mad.
Though, if he was going mad, he supposed this wasn’t as bad as it could have been. It was actually quite…nice. Having another person be so close to him was a nice feeling, and he secretly wished he could have it more often. Not with just anyone, of course, he’d only want this with Eunie. He laughed to himself, to think the one that had aggravated him was now who he wanted close to him in the wee hours of the night. He would have to sort that out later, however. For now, he allowed himself to drift off to sleep in Eunie’s embrace, his mind clear for the first time in a long time.
