Work Text:
You left early Tuesday morning from your parents' house. Your dog would be staying there for the week. "Be good, ok, Princess?", you said to her...even though she couldn't understand Japanese.
As you drove to the airport together, Taishiro explained Thanksgiving. "It's a feast celebrating the Pilgrims' arrival to America and the Colony's alliance with the natives," he explained. "They taught the colonists how to plant corn and hunt local fowl. And the best part is the food. Rolls and honey butter, mashed potatoes, corn, stuffing, green bean casserole, cranberry sauce, turkey, pumpkin pie, and food comas. It's amazing, Darlin'!"
You parked and he realized something was bothering you. "What's wrong, Sweetheart?" he asked.
You looked up at him. "Tai...what if your parents don't like me?" He chuckled lightly. "That's all?" he asked as you gave him a small nod. "Tater tot, how could they not like such a pretty face? You're cute, smart, sweet, talented, and all around wonderful. 'Sides. They're full of Southern hospitality."
You hug his arm, still unsure as you enter the airport together. What if they didn't like you? What if they didn't think you were good enough for him? Hell, even you sometimes wonder if you deserve such an amazing boyfriend as Tai. Cute, sweet, smart, brave, AND good at cuddles.
But what about you? I mean that's why you didn't wanna get your hopes up about his parents. In case reality let down your expectations. I mean, a lot of people have let you down in your life. So why do you care? Why should you? It's probably not even worth stressing over, right?
You notice you're at the terminal. You blanked out, but something had snapped you back...You looked next to you. It was Tai's warm, comforting embrace as he wraps an arm around your shoulder.
You smile at him as you both waited to board the plane...You remembered checking how long it was online. Would you really be able to sit still for fourteen hours without going numb? You hope that you can. Movies, music, and drawing can distract you for fourteen hours, right? Right? I mean...it usually does. You look back at Tai...yeah. You'll be good for fourteen hours. As long as you're near him you'll be OK.
