"Jett! I'm so happy I got to meet you! You're like my favouritest agent! You're so cool I want to be just like you when I grow up! Can you sign this for me?" The little boy gushed excitedly, elated that he finally met his idol.
"Haha! Of course kid," Jett laughed, scribbling down her stylised signature with a puff of smoke surrounding her name. Just as she handed the boy his magazine back, the sirens sounded.
"Attention all citizens, cracks have started to form in the biodome. It is no longer safe to stay here, please make your way towards the connector to the Pearl District in a calm and collected manner. Attention..." the voice over the PA system repeated itself.
Panic was quick to set in, the attendees of the fan meet and greet started running out of the venue, but some stayed frozen in their place. Jett looked for her colleagues who were present as well, Sage, Omen and Phoenix.
"I'll lead them to Pearl!" Phoenix yelled, receiving a nod from the rest. He shouldered his way to the front of the crowd, using his fire as a beacon to guide the people. Jett watched as a woman quickly pulled the child still in front of her table away.
"My magazine!" The child yelled, having dropped his magazine in the haste of being pulled away by his mother. They were swallowed by the crowd. Jett picked up the fallen book and rolled it up, stuffing it in one of her many pockets.
"We only have moments before the dome gives up! We need to get the civilians out of here!" Sage shouted over the chaos, her eyes following the quickly spreading cracks. As soon as they made it out of the venue, water gushed in from the hole in the dome.
"Omen! Get the people out of the residential areas!" Sage ordered. The shadow of a man nodded in understanding.
"Watch them run." Omen growled, using his ultimate to reach the other end of a dome quickly. Jett couldn't help but think that was a little dramatic for the situation.
The radiants quickly jumped into action, ushering the civilians towards Phoenix's fire. Jett moved around quickly, using her powers to send gusts of wind strong enough to slow the waves down, creating a path for the people.
Sage was somewhere to her right, also using her powers to create massive walls in an attempt to stop the waves. Omen teleported around, rescuing people who got caught in a giant wave and dropping them off with Phoenix.
But it was a losing battle, they were deep under the ocean with tons of water rushing in. Sage's walls weren't strong enough to hold them back and Jett could only do so much with the wind.
"Ha!" Jett shoved her arms outwards on either side of her, blowing the water away from 3 escaping civilians. They quickly ran for the connector.
Sage tried her best to maintain a somewhat clear path, but the waves broke through. Her walls collapsed and she got washed away with a yelp.
Hearing her cry of despair, Jett jumped off the ground with a gust of wind and tried to locate Sage, quickly flying over to her and bringing her back towards the connector.
"Thank you," Sage said between coughs and gasps. She had unwillingly taken a forced drink when the wave got her. Water was filling up the Tide District, there was barely any dry ground left.
"Omen! Get back here!" Sage yelled. Jett turned back to look at the crowd, seeing the people fussing over each other, but none seemed to be distraught over missing family members.
With a woosh Omen appeared next to Jett. Sage put up a thick wall blocking off the connector to prevent water from flowing in. She put a second wall up as well as extra measures.
The 3 of them rendezvous with Phoenix, who had generously set up a fire for people to warm up and dry themselves off.
"You all good? The Big Man wants to see us," Phoenix informed, jabbing his thumb towards the HQ. The four of them made their way through the crowd, people thanked them as they passed.
Jett scanned the crowd for the little boy, it took her a while but she eventually spotted him, bawling his eyes out with his mother beside him.
"Hey, there you are!" Jett called out, catching the boy's attention, "I have something for you, uh, hang on." She felt around for the magazine, finding it bundled up in a pocket. It was damp but she did her best to straighten it out and hand it to the boy.
"Sorry it's a little wet-" Before she could finish her words, the boy jumped at her with a hug. He was sniffling into her hood, thanking her over and over again.
"Thank you thank you! You're my hero! I'll dry it out when I can, I'll treasure this magazine forever!" He rushed out, looking at her with a big smile, childlike innocence shone in his eyes.
Jett smiled tiredly at him, she ruffled his hair and lightly pushed him towards his mother. They waved her goodbye as she joined her comrades.
"You did good Jett, you made the kid's day! He'll remember this forever," Sage praised the younger radiant. Jett just smiled at her in response.
Their job wasn't an easy one, no matter how glorified the people make it out to be. They worked hard and risked their lives to safe this world of theirs, stealing from other worlds just to sustain themselves. It wasn't an easy job, but it's a necessary one all the same.
"Good work acting quickly and saving the civilians," Brimstone started, "as for that water filled dome, that's a problem for another day."
