Chapter Text

Wylan’s pov

After a summer break full of boredom, Wylan was ready to get back to school. He had chosen to study music, maths, and chemistry this year because he couldn’t stand English. Jumping around on the pages, words baffled Wylan. Not like numbers, equations, and music.

He was running late to meeting the others at the coffee shop they all agreed to meet at before school started. Entering the coffee shop, Wylan instantly located everyone at the back of the shop.

Kaz sat at the head of the table in the chair with a clear view of the door- everyone asked him why he always wanted to see who comes in and out but he never gave one straight answer. To everyone, Kaz was a suck up to teachers who would always do the homework on time and just get on well with them all; however whenever something happens (like when ‘suck my dick Mr Rollins’ was written on Mr Rollins’ whiteboard) all the staff thinks it’s him but there is never enough evidence to actually punish him. This in itself deemed Kaz the leader of the group.

Sat next to him was Inej, otherwise known as the mum friend. She was always the person to go to if you need advice or just a friend to talk to. Her and Kaz definitely had a thing for each other but neither would admit it; anyone with eyes would notice the wistful glances at each other and just their whole dynamic together.

Next to Inej was Nina, Kaz’s partner in crime and Inej’s best friend. Whenever Kaz wanted to do a prank on staff or other pupils, Nina would always be the first to offer her assistance. After taking french and Spanish as two of her options, she was regarded not just as the craziest of the group but as the bravest.

Holding Nina’s hand under the table was Matthias. For some reason he took rowing as an option- he’d often show everyone the blisters he’d get on his hands, which Nina would occasionally poke at lovingly. His parents were highly religious so they forced him to take philosophy as one of his options. As far as Wylan knew, he had never had a sip of alcohol in his life.

On Kaz’s other side sat Jesper. The first thought Wylan had when they first met two years ago was that he had the most perfectly shaped lips Wylan had ever seen. He was constantly joking around with the others and could make light of anything. It was Jesper who could make Wylan’s heart skip a beat whenever they made eye contact and who could make him smile with hardly any effort. Wylan was falling hard okay.

“You’re late.” Said Kaz with one eyebrow raised as Wylan sat between Matthias and Jesper.

“I slept in. Have you all ordered yet?” Wylan asked glancing around the group.

“Yes, I ordered your coffee as well. It should be here soon” Inej replied with a smile.

As if she was summoned, the waitress came with their coffees balanced on a tray.

“Black Americano with 3 shots?”

Kaz accepted his coffee with a smile and a short nod.

“Americano with cream?”

“Yes thank you” Inej gently took the cup and saucer from the waitress.

“Rum? and black coffee with whipped cream?” Said with a concerned voice.

“Ahh yes thank you” Jesper. Of course.

“Mocha?”

Nina raised her hand with a smile.

“Green tea?”

“Thank you” Matthias nodded accepting his tea pot and cup

“And a cappuccino for you sir” The waitress placed Wylan’s drink in front of him.

“You classy little fuck” chuckled Jesper.

“You’re one to talk, who orders rum with coffee?”

“Yeah! We have school in half an hour” pointed out Matthias, stirring his tea.

“I have Maths first- I need it! Also who orders green tea?” Jesper reasoned with a smirk.

“Talking about that, can we walk to maths together? I’m in your class” asked Wylan before Matthias could get a word in.

“Sure thing Wy! At least I’ll know someone I like”

‘Like huh? I wish it would go further than that’ Wylan thought.

Half an hour later, Wylan and Jesper entered their classroom and realised they were the last people in.
‘This is so embarrassing’ thought Wylan with his head in his hands.

After apologising to the teacher, they both threw a quick glance around the room.

Luckily there were two seats near the back right by the window. As quickly as possible, Wylan claimed the seat by the window and sunk as far into his chair as possible to hide from the embarrassment.

Jesper’s pov

With a chuckle, Jesper claimed the seat next to Wylan, instantly distracted by how the light played on his hair. It was like blazing flames of fire curling and twisting around his head.

Shaking his head, Jesper tried to focus on the lesson but kept throwing glances at the boy sat next to him. Occasionally they’d lock eyes with each other (causing Wylan to blush slightly, which Jesper found adorable.)

Jesper liked Wylan since the moment they met and it was only recently when he realised it wasn’t fully platonic. However, out of fear of rejection and their friendship being broken, Jesper hadn’t pursuit it other than the occasional flirty banter.

Unable to get over how gorgeous Wylan looked in front of the window, Jesper sneakily took a photo of him. ‘Why the hell did I do that?! Stalker much’ Jesper thought; he wasn’t going to delete the photo though.
