Work Text:

This morning, Wangpeng gave Liyou a phone call. He really wanted to accompany Liyou to see a movie.

"Wangpeng, hiya! I was just about to give your phone a call!"

"Really? What's the matter?"

"I just wanted to invite you to a picnic. Tonight's forecast says the weather will be great, outside isn't too cold or hot, very comfortable. I made some pumpkin bread and it tasted amazing, both sweet and healthy at the same time. Would you care for some?"

Wangpeng said, "Oh, when I called you it was because I wanted to invite you to see a movie... today the school is showing a very popular American movie called Minions: The Rise of Gru. I heard it was really funny. If you don't want to go, we can always just do a picnic..."

Liyou considered it for a moment. "A Minions movie? I've seen Despicable Me, but not The Rise of Gru."

"If you accompany me, we can buy tickets, and I'll buy your popcorn."

Liyou said, "If you buy me junk food, then I'll go with you. What time does it start?"

Wangpeng told her, "It starts at seven-thirty. I'll arrive at your dorm at seven-fifteen, and then we can both go to the school student activity center. Capiche?"

"Capiche. Did you already buy the tickets?"

Wangpeng forgot to buy them. He said, "No big deal, we can buy them when we get there."

"It's all good; see you tonight!"

"There's so many people in line. This morning, you said that this movie is really popular, right?"

Wangpeng was really quite embarrassed. "Yeah. Agh, we might have to wait a while for our tickets."

Liyou considered it uninteresting to wait in line. She went online to talk to Bai Yingai and sent her, "Wangpeng is really dumb. His head must have nothing in it."

They waited for fifteen minutes in line. But afterwards, they heard a ticket operator saying, "Sorry, movie theatre's running slow, tickets are sold out!"

"Aiyah! Why are they sold out? Thoroughly horrible!!!" Wangpeng was really pissed.

Liyou said, "Now what do we do?"

Wangpeng considered it for a moment. "We could go to my dorm and watch a different movie, how's that sound?"

Liyou was really not happy, but she said, "Fine."

Wangpeng's dorm was quite messy. Liyou thought he should clean it immediately.

"The fridge has leftovers from yesterday, do you want to eat them?"

"My stomach hurts a little. Is there any other food?"

"There are chips and soda."

"Cool." Liyou went and got the chips and soda.

Wangpeng connected his computer into the television, and found a pirated copy of a movie. He asked Liyou, "Have you seen Cars 2?"

Liyou said that she hadn't. Wangpeng said, "Cars 2 is really interesting. There's this red car, named Lightning Mcqueen. His friend is this brown car, named Mater."

Wangpeng and Liyou both watched the Cars 2 movie. Wangpeng really liked Cars 2. Liyou thought the movie was quite stupid, but the red car Lightning McQueen was handsome.

Afterwards, Liyou realised that Lightning McQueen was handsomer and cooler than Wangpeng by a mile.

Notes:

Original description:
"i'm tired of gao wenzhong getting shitted on. it's wang peng's turn in the dunk tank

i'll probably post another battle cats fic soon btw"

Fic notes (written by me):
-I translated this as Chinese practice instead of doing my actual Chinese homework...
-The writing in the original fic probably doesn't sound very great or beautiful to a native Chinese speaker, so I was torn on whether to preserve that original awkward feeling or to try to incorporate some translation elements that would make it feel more like an actual conversation between two people who romantically like each other.
-In the end, I compromised between the two options. I know that doesn't make it a faithful translation, but also no one is paying me for this. I added these notes to let you, the reader of these notes, know the above, so that way if you decide to reread it, you can keep that in mind.
-I added "Capiche" as a thing that the Integrated Chinese book characters say to each other, because, uhh, personal headcanon.
-I literally have no idea how to translate 非常糟糕 into English while still preserving the quiet terror and horribly unpleased emotion that my parents convey every time they say it.

Hope you enjoy. If you can read some basic Chinese, you should check out the original work as well. If I have any translation errors, feel free to let me know in the comments.
