Work Text:
It’s been a week since the loss against Inashiro, and while Jun has put on a strong front you know better.
He was often dazed, and seeing him with a faraway look was troubling. The losing play was repeating over and over and over again in his mind.
It haunted him.
What if he was further out? What if he did this differently? What if he did that differently?
What if he actually caught the goddamn ball?
While the tears no longer came as easily as they first did, the dull pain in his eyes continued to burn.
Still waking up early for practice that he no longer had to do.
Still avoiding eye contact with newly-retired teammates.
It pissed him off.
Without baseball practice he was texting, and calling you more often. Grumbling that he had too much time on his hands, and couldn’t focus on studying.
Jun had told you he was coming over a couple hours ago. When he arrived you were quietly sitting at your desk doing the summer homework. He on the other hand plopped himself on your bed immediately upon entering your room.
This was the normal routine, with his body aching from hellish practice, and school work kicking both your asses, alone time was savoured this way.
The current situation, however, was anything but normal.
Your ears perked up hearing his soft breathing, he had fallen asleep surprisingly. He hadn’t done that since being caught by your parents months prior.
With a stretch you give up on homework, and move towards your bed to look at your sleeping boyfriend.
Your heart aches painfully at seeing him. His slightly puffy face, and under eyes red from roughly wiping away tears.
If only you could change the past.
For Jun.
Getting into bed you shifted yourself into his arms. Jun was, unsurprisingly, a deep sleeper. Either way you gingerly cup his face with one hand, and press a kiss to his forehead.
His sleeping face was cute, and different from his normal expressions. While his angry faces, and yelling made you laugh, seeing him this close was incredibly intimate.
Something special only for you.
Placing a small kiss to his nose, and then his forehead once more. A small smile creeps onto your face. If he was awake he would have grumbled at you with pink cheeks, but doing nothing to move away from your kisses.
Your room was getting darker, a sign it was getting late. While you wish he could stay longer, Seido had a strict policy about curfew. Especially for student athletes.
Suddenly, Jun tightens his hold on you, as if he knew you were going to wake him up. You feel butterflies forming at the bottom of your stomach from his movements.
“Why’d you stop dammit?” He croaks out, doing his best to give you a grumpy look. His sleepiness not helping his case in the slightest.
You grin at him, brushing his lips with your thumb, “I just wanted to save the best for last.”
Almost instantly the tips of his ears lit up. No matter how often you teased him it was still difficult for him to hide his blush. Only enticing you to do it more of course.
He rolls his brown eyes, and you know he has a sharp retort at the tip of his tongue. But before he can speak you press your lips to his, effectively ending any complaints he had.
A sweet kiss that lasts only a few moments, but has your heart pounding heavily in your chest. This was his effect on you - dizzyingly in love.
Jun’s facial hair tickles you as he nuzzles into your neck. He lets out a rough sigh, and pulls your body as close he can.
You feel him shake ever so slightly, so small in fact, had you not been entangled it wouldn’t have been noticeable.
When his tears begin to pool in the crook of your neck, however, you could only squeeze him closer to you. Rubbing his back as you did so, an attempt to soothe his pain. While this had worked countless times before this was different.
There would be no more attempts at Summer Nationals or the Spring Invitational for Jun. Or any of his teammates friends he had spent the last 3 years in training-hell with.
“Fuck,” Jun chokes out. “I’m tired of these fucking tears.”
What are you supposed to do when the strongest person you know breaks down?
Could you be the pillar for Jun in the same way he has been for you?
“I know,” you whisper. “You worked so hard, you deserve more than tears.” You place a kiss to the top of his head. “I love you Jun, you’re the most hardworking man I know.”
He takes a slow, but deep inhale, then breathes out heavily. You move to pull away, wanting to see his face. To softly wipe away the evidence of his agony, but his strong arms don’t let you move.
“Stop moving…” he mutters out lowly, and hides his face even more.
The rest of his words are inaudible to you, but you understand him. He didn’t like showing you his weak side. No matter how many times he has cried in your arms he didn’t show you his face. It didn’t stop you from trying though, you wanted him to know you could be the brave one too.
You squirm a little, but Jun doesn’t budge. With a huff you accept defeat once more.
“I just,” Jun starts with a sigh. “All I need is you, right here, with me.”
Your bottom lip trembles, and your eyes begin to prickle with hot tears. You kiss the top of his head, and mumble, “Always, I’ll always be right here, with you.”
