Chapter Text
Dr. Rainpuff entered the grimey docks of Rosemary isle on September 24, 1846.
Stretching and reclining her legs in each step to avoid the cracks made by rusty loose anchors. The golden-haired fairy produced piercing creeks as she walked along the docks, complimenting the sloshing of the dark ocean underneath her and the powerful smell of something that had died. Everywhere around her, provided by the fishing boats, splattered all over the rustic wood and secreted by a crowd of people, especially the people. Occasionally she would stop to see if her papers are legitimate to avoid a good thrashing & peaking at the grey slosh that the local fairies call ‘water’ it truly is a wonder of a town she thought to amuse herself, it was a wonder that she was even alive at all despite the circumstances Dr. Pomu Rainpuff folded her crumpled papers and placed them at her brown waistcoat’s upper right breast pocket. Entering the crowd of people from all throughout the town, state, maybe the entire country.
Depending on how neighboring nations would perceive the isles to be from the recently opposed, Lovelock Monarchy or the De Facto Government of the ferns and their main leader Helvete Von Pazzo, invading from the north. It would seem that it is beneficial for the citizens of the Rosemary isles to flee, one specific class that the ferns would find beneficial towards themselves if this certain class would be disposed of. High-ranking military officials, close friends of the Lovelock Family, and a much less expected group of chemists, private investigators, glass manufacturers, public performers, and anesthesiologists. A class that the little psychopath would just love to wipe out for the pettiest reasons. Dr. Rainpuff thought about this as she submerged herself in the crowd of panicked yet temporarily content civilians.
Briefly greeting every passerby with a simple “I’m Pomu” to each uncaring member of this abyss. It only took another popular local greeting “SHUT THE FUCK UP” for the only brightness of that day to slowly fade. Now the entire world’s gone dim
She found herself hearing very off-putting and tender conversations from the crowd as she pushed her way through, some in the Upper-class Floral tongue and some in a native Pixie dialect as that is all she understood at least, as she went on, she got more grumpy and started pushing and bumping into people to get ahead quicker in exchange, she would get squeezed by, tackled by, punched and kicked and screamed at by everyone in desperation of leaving as rumors begun to spread that the fern’s cavalry division have been seen drinking in pubs just north of the town all fabricated within the very heart of the crowd. As Dr. Rainpuff was about to be squished to death,
BANG
The crowd went silent, a man can be found at the edge of the ship looking down at the crowd, eyeing everyone keenly with his colorful feline eyes. Walking across the ledge with his black leather boots, long cotton blue trenchcoat, and his soft white neck wrap covering anything under his chin. The crewman fired his revolver rifle no longer than a second ago. He cradled the stock in his arms the barrel resting on his left shoulder poking out and ingrained in his black long hair.
He had stopped eyeing the crowd.
“Alright! People below 25 and above 16 only. Must be lightweight, we can only accompany four more people on board, please decide among yourselves” when the crowd responded with faint blinks and ultimate silence he spoke again almost indifferent this time “Captain’s orders” a twitch to the left ending his entire speech while the other man in a similar attire dropped a boarding plank down which loud thud makes the silence much more deafening.
“Kako! Batello Cha Herrrlo Ch’a Kireku”!
(Bastard! My three sons will die because of you!)
From a calm breeze to a violent thunderstorm, Before Dr. Rainpuff even had the opportunity to pull herself up everyone started to lash out at the still crewman as hats, passports, and whatever scraps could be gathered at the docks at the moment are fired, one of them hitting the face of another crewman who distilled a loud, shrill scream as the other one laughs aloud in the back, the man that could be seen sneers “Fine! Waste your energy here, you know what? Destroy the fucking ship for all I care” raising his voice but not really shouting “I’ve heard it all before when the Lovelock Monarchy came to power when those Birdmen flew in ‘09, I’ve HEARD IT ALL. All your begging and complaining and moaning, all your energy just to negotiate something that’s already been decided” Breathing deeply the crewman truly does not intend to stop yet. Wiping the sweat resting over his face with his sleeve.
Wanting to say more, he stops himself as he felt that his intentions had already been achieved he stops and turns back leaving a just as unimpressed disembodied voice “Oh, and please be careful when throwing the liquor next time, Some of us ‘could’ use a drink” throwing a shard of glass away
First mate Akuma leans on a crab barrel sneakily placed by the Fourth mate Asuma who praised the older veteran, with an almost naive glittery expression, there are more stars in the kid’s eyes than any vacuum could dream of having. In the distance, the veteran’s ears perk up, he noticed this and decides to indulge further. He could hear the usual bickering and muttering he’d always hear on days like this and the footsteps of iron sole boots. Looking in the direction, pipe held in his right hand and the tip resting on his bottom lip, Fourth mate Asuma enthusiastically does the same clutching his lapel to appear more adult-like. A few steps later, they could see something blue pop out, another step and they could see that it’s two blue wings, another step and they could see a face of a woman her wings propped at the back of her hair not even flinching g in reaction to the sunlight on her face nor the heavy waves crashing towards the rickety ship
“Move Bitch!”
She is pushed aside by a man who had seemingly broken away from the crowd after her. He lands on the sea-soaked wooden floors of the ship stealing the lady’s literal spotlight wearing a very loose fake smile as he placed his fists on his hips “Lo fier mon foofoo ponez” he greeted, crossing his legs and flattening his arms in the correlation of his pinstripe shoulder blades.
“That’s not a real language” Akuma exclaimed, twiddling the pipe in his mouth, the man wore a purple, pinstripe suit and wavy purple locks which he gently tucked into his ear and scoffed “What is even real anymore?” lowering his elbows and loosening his jacket, his soft voice sounding so delicate it’s as if someone else was saying it from somewhere else. “Really” furrowing his brows confidently his smile had faded. “I’d like to think I’m real” in response First mate Akuma ordered the anticipating blue-haired rookie to grab a bag behind the strange man with a single snap of his finger, made of weird, bright materials that neither could name. The Rookie passes through him, clutching the odd purple bag in his arm and then saluting. “Your’s I presume” the Veteran exhaled some smoke, eyes fixated on the strange man who was relaxing his position “Uhm, do those chumps behind me look like they can afford it?” he scoffs but soon reverts back to how he sounded before boarding the ship to appear more friendly.
The veteran snapped his finger; the rookie salutes and fleas the scene, the strange man thanking him softly, cautiously even as he eases into the rustic environment.” I suppose that’s true” he sighs putting the pipe away
“Passport”
“Ah, baschii bonda foopo lelo” nodding once, he grasped his lapel and inserted his calloused hand inside his dress shirt, at the spin of the arm he arched his back presenting a velvet case in his hand, pinkie excluded, and let the weight of the cards and receipts open the case for him. Which made a soothing stretching noise as it dangled freely.
Akuma sees the, apparently Uki’s, Identification Documents nestled in a little display pouch. Over said pouch was a folded bill held in place with his middle and index fingers. It was a legitimate ‘24.5 Petal’ bill with the Lovelock Family’s coat of arms resting just under the 24 and the Main Floral estate displayed in the background
“Is it legitimate?”
“Of course Bossier. My previous statement was simply an old saying in the Perfume industry, the ‘numbers’ you see are as real as it gets, at least for a man of your occupation” he answered, grinning *smoothly*
The Veteran plucks the small velvet case out of the businessman’s hand “Again, not a real language, and I was talking about your credentials” he swipes the barely stuck bill away flying just above the ground, passing the businessman into the crowd who roared in the background. The Businessman kept his hands warm in his pockets to keep cool from the gust of wind as Akuma inspected his documents, mumbling nearly every detail that he poked with the end of his pipe.
“Do you have some chewing gum?” the businessman leaned, Akuma shakes his head with a wide smile, letting the seagulls squeak from above, Uki looks at the bleak sky and back at his fingers which he tried to dig the unfavorable debris.
“Age: 24 aaaannd we’re done here” he folds the case again, Mr. Violetta jolted, adjusting his chest, and quickly pockets it somewhere in his jacket and tips his imaginary hat. the exchange ended quicker than the next person expected as She was drenched in anticipation.
“Ah, Sister Pendora” he greeted “What brings a holier than thou woman like you into a godless wreck like this, to bless maybe?”
“Mr. Akuma” The lady wore black silk robes, opaque ones that you can get on the richer side of the country. Her face had abandoned any sign of joy although the Veteran had thought that maybe this was another religious vow, he’d soon drop the thought after further noticing the genuine sternness on her face, her wings weren’t even moving like they used to “What else but to escape, I’ve already devoted myself to my beliefs and I do not wish to simply denounce them”
“I see you’ve become more uptight in recent years Sister Pendora” Awaiting a passport to be given to him
“And I see you finally loosened up, that snobby accent made you look too posh for anyone’s tastes”
He looks at her
He smiles
Then he chuckles
She does nothing
Stroking his fingertips on his palm he pulls his arm back and practically kneels “Welcome, Elira”
The unaffected chaplain, who placed her hand over her other, walked passed him as her necklace rocked side to side.
At this point, Dr. Rainpuff had escaped the bickering crowd and nestled her hands on a man that she had found in all the ruckus, grasping the tail of his open waistcoat and following him passed through the tight cracks of this plague of disease and flesh. Once they had reached the crossing plank, maybe she pulled on the waistcoat a little too hard, which is to be expected as some members of the crowd begin noticing their daring exit, or maybe the man’s peripheral vision had an easier time noticing her once they were out. Whatever the case, He looked back at her, with a kind of distressed look, he doesn’t seem like the type to lash out at anybody with his big, round, shiny glasses but didn’t say anything,
Dr. Rainpuff did the same.
They reached the top to meet another man waiting there, a quite pathetic-looking feller who looked as though he was on the verge of tears. Once they saw the man with long hair she wanted to cut in early to ask something but instead started to push the other two men inside the ship forcing them to scrutinize the demonic combination of fluids that soaked and seeped into the souls of their shoes. Dr. Rainpuff thought to say something to 'sway' the veteran to her will. So she blurted out the first thing that arrived in her head.
“Uhh…"
"Yes?" the veteran pulled the pipe out of his lip
"Hi! I’m Pomu!” she straightens herself as the Veteran walks around her, peaking into the impotent crowd leaving his observation with a deeply troubled sigh. “See I know you said there were only a few seats left but you see, I really don't wanna die!!" she fell on herself as the man in the waistcoat assisted with her balance she yelled "IKNOWYOUHAVEORDERSBUTPLEASEPLEASEPLEASEPLEASEPLEASE YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT'LL DO TO ME!! I'M BEGGING YOU-"
“Pomu?” the veteran glanced at her with cold sharp eyes and a shadowy face
She gulped “Yes sir?”
with a simple swish of his leg, he knocked the plank down, silencing everybody, giving it enough force to balance on itself for a bit until it was completely amputated from the shipping vessel.
“Welcome aboard”
