From one trip to the library to a basket of muffins, Caleb can have a moment that doesn’t involve someone dying or people who should be in therapy.
Just a peaceful moment in her chaotic life, thanks to a cat with claws that can kill.
The cat can take many forms, mainly a humanoid form so that he can talk about nature and art.
They were both writers, so they would spend their time writing in the woods while eating baked goods that a particular cat may not have stolen.
The cat doesn’t know how he came to spend time with a brunette girl; he would go out of this way to fight for her happiness, but the cat is glad he can try and provide that.
One of his favourite moments of this was when he found a tree with a beautiful view, so he climbed the tree while she was on his back, and the two admired the view from the top branch.
Or when he blew the dust off her mittens to piss off Winth, it looked like he was kissing her hand from his view. Though he got slapped for this stunt, it was worth it.
Even the moments they went out to paint nature or abstract art.
At some point, he grew deeper feelings for her, but he didn’t want to admit that since he didn’t want to lose their friendship. But Caleb was smart enough to notice that Markus's face had a pink tint on it whenever he looked at her for too long.
One day when the two sat by a tree to write, she passed a note to the kitty.
Do you like me?
“ Of course, I like you. I wouldn’t try to make you happy if I didn’t,” Markus said, knowing what she meant but hoping she implied as friends.
Caleb took the note back and wrote it down.
Do you like me how Winth liked me?
Markus went silent for a moment before answering.
“Yes, but I value our friendship more than my feelings, so if you don’t feel the same, I won’t try to pursue these feelings. “ Markus said, looking away from her.
Caleb put her mitten hand on his claw and wrote a letter down.
I’ll think about it but are you willing to wait for that moment?
Markus smiled and cupped her face closer to his, and smirked.
“Id wait a million years for you to say that you love me,” Markus teased.
After that day, Markus admitted to being homeless in a similar situation to Brennan, so Caleb offered he stay during cold or stormy nights. To make it less awkward, he was in his cat form and slept on the floor.
Nothing was official, but the two started blushing when looking at each other, mostly Markus.
Even with this, the two still hung out, having tea parties in the library or having creative outings in the woods.
Caleb did have some feelings for him, but she didn’t want anything horrible to happen to him if she pursued these feelings.
Markus does remember when he went out, he was about to be murdered by a one-eyed man, but thanks to his abilities, he just turned into a cat and escaped.
Or when he insulted Liam by calling him a three at best, but the two put aside their differences and beat up Winth.
Besides Winth, Markus never really fought anyone he didn’t trust, like Star, he mainly just glared at her, but the thought did come to his mind to reenact the cat and beldam scene from Coraline.
Sometimes, Markus wonders if Caleb said yes to his offer, how would that play out?
He likes to imagine that they have cute dates at a cafe or an opera. They would have a wedding in the fall at dusk with everyone they care about being around to see. Maybe with the power of love, they would have a child half dead and half cat, so they would look like a skelanimal.
Too bad that never happened, though.
With these peaceful moments, they had their story ends tragically.
Maybe the story ends with Markus dying while trying to save Caleb with her seeing it happen.
Or Markus witnessing Caleb's demise with her only wish not to help her since she didn’t want to lose him.
Or even the two tragic souls are dying next to each other, Romeo and Juliet style.
I don’t know how it happens, but I know all good things end.
