Chapter Text
“Shit.” Tammy Larsen muttered under her breath, as her hands came to fiddle with her hair. It was twisted into a coronet, held together solely by bobby pins and an obsessive amount of hair spray. Standing here, in an airport bathroom in Madrid, a strange feeling overcame her. Like great giant moths were fluttering in and out of her body. “Must be nerves.”
There was a reason Tammy was nervous. Tonight was the night she was finally going to see her ‘friend’ Tina Belcher. The two had been mortal enemies in school, until year 12 when they became the best of friends. Tammy had taught Tina all the girly things she loved, and Tina had shared her love of writing with Tammy. Through Tina’s stories, Tammy had found herself falling in love with the awkward teenager, and in turn had what was probably the most tumultuous sexual identity crisis in history.
However, there was one thing standing in the way between Tammy and Tina… Tina’s fiancé, Jimmy Jr Pesto. Fuck that guy.
Nevertheless, Tammy still persisted. Although she hadn’t officially come out yet, those who knew her well had probably guessed- they likely talked about it all the time for all she cared, not that she did. Tammy’s whole life now was surrounded around Tina, the beautiful girl she loved earnestly with all her crumpled heart had to offer.
With that thought in her head, Tammy turned on her heel and exited the bathroom, clad in a slim red mini dress with cutouts. It was her time to shine.
Tammy’s heart was beating wildly as she stared down at her dinner plate. Jimmy Jr had left to go to the bathroom, leaving her and Tina alone on this rooftop, in the heart of Madrid. A catch-up with friends, Jimmy and Tina had thought. Tammy had never felt more like a liar in her life.
Maybe it was the wine, but before her mind could convince her not to, Tammy blurt out, “Tina Belcher, I fucking love you and if I don’t hear you say that you love me to right now in the next five seconds I’m leaving you forever and you’ll never be able to make out with me.”
Tina blinked, surprised, and before Tammy could think, Tina was leaning forward, kissing Tammy wholeheartedly. Tammy was taken aback at first, but as the kiss depended, she found her rhythm, hand tussling Tina’s hair. They stayed like that for a while, everything else in the world forgotten about, nothing mattering except this - the beautiful woman in front of her, the woman she had lusted after for so many years. Here, in the heart of Madrid, kissing her, of all people.
“Tina?” Said a bewildered voice - Jimmy Jr Pesto’s. Tammy and Tina broke apart, both gasping for air. Jimmy stood in the centre of the rooftop, three drinks on a tray in his hand. He looked to be on the verge of crying, and before anyone could say anything, he dropped the tray. The drinks fell to the floor, glass shattering. Tina was on her feet in an instant, not noticing the rain that had started to pour right as Jimmy left. It was as if the weather itself could sense the devastating mood that had erupted through the silence.
“Tina?” Tammy asked, reaching out desperately for the girl she loved.
“I love you, Tammy, but before we can go any further, I must sort things out with Jimmy. If I don’t, the guilt will haunt me a lifetime. Give me ten minutes.”
Those ten minutes were the longest ten minutes of Tammy Larsen’s life. She tried anything to distract herself - scrolling through her phone, reading the latest smutty book she had borrowed from the library, heck she even looked at pictures of her (male) ex to see if photos of him would make her regret this. They didn’t.
The end timer button appeared on her screen, along with the sound of ringing bells. It had been ten minutes. Tammy clutched her purse and ran downstairs, soaked from all the time she had spent on the rooftop during the rain. The rain didn’t subside by the time she exited the club, eyes fixed on what she supposed was Tina’s silhouette, highlighted by the street lamp. She was still talking to Jimmy, who left before anyone could say anything else.
Tina turned before Tammy could sneak up on her, and pulled the blond woman into a deep embrace.
“You better not make me regret this.”
