“To unlock something, you just draw it like this and—“
Celaena chuckled.
Nehemia sighed for the millionth time that morning. “What’s so funny?”
“Have you ever seen someone being tortured in a wheel?”
Wide-eyed, her friend gasped, “No!”
The assassin bit her lip. “Well, it looks like it.”
“Okay, then. To unlock a door you need to draw someone being tortured on a wheel,” Nehemia said between amusement and disgust. “Can you pay attention now?”
Celaena tried to, at least. It was hard to focus on learning a language that made no sense. And she still had to meet Archer later for the list of names. As grateful as she was for Dorian to take her out of Endovier, Celaena hated working for the King of Adarlan. She couldn’t wait for the day she’d be free and go Mala knows where.
“What are you doing after this?”
“Excuse me?” Nehemia’s brows were furrowed like she was trying to gather the meaning of Celaena’s question.
“I never got the point of your stay here. I love your company, but you clearly have more plans than teaching Wyrdmarks to an assassin. What do you plan to do before going back to Eyllwe?”
“Going back home is not on the plans for me.”
“Why not?” Celaena straightened her posture. “I could go to Eyllwe with you.”
Nehemia sighed and gave her a watery smile. “I’m sure you have greater plans than that.”
Celaena huffed, “What about your brothers?”
With bulged eyes and one hand covering her mouth to hide a smile, she replied, “You can do way better than my idiot brothers.”
Celena eyes were wide too, and they both started cackling. “If they want a spy or an assassin, not a girlfriend!”
After a few beats, Nehemia turned back to the desk. “Come on, it’s now my life’s mission to make you learn that.”
Celaena rolled her eyes and teased, “So dramatic.” Nehemia just smiled at her.
“You’re not learning anything new, so let’s practice what we already know. How do you unlock something?”
Celaena smirked at her friend, “Oh, we’re starting with the easy ones, then.”
