Work Text:

"Are they gone?" Sonny asked beside him, sounding exhausted. Alban couldn't really blame him as he felt pretty much the same.  They had been running around for hours, fighting all those crazy zombies and trying to carry out their mission.

"Yeah, I think they won't be able to come in here" he answered, relieved. The building they just entered must be a safe zone, so they can finally catch their breath.

"Whew~" Sonny slid down on a far wall, away from the window where they couldn't hear the sounds of the zombies outside. Alban sat down beside him.

They were both grateful for a chance to relax a bit from the chaos they had gone through

It's also evening now, which means they should probably spend the night for safety. Alban stared at his blond partner. "You get some rest, Sonny. I'll take first watch~"

"I'm fine" Sonny insisted, but Alban shook his head. He knew Sonny took on more zombies than he did so he was far more depleted. He relented after a while "Fine, but stay here will you?"

"Not like I can go anywhere, Sonny" he joked, well that was partly also because he had an ankle injury, but Sonny didn't need to know about that "Wah–"

What he didn't expect was for the man to put his head on Alban's shoulder. He froze, but didn't pull away "Uh, Sonny?"

"Mmn?" Sonny's tone sounded more calm and relaxed that he didn't have the courage to ask why he had to do that.

"Nothing. Go get some sleep~"

"Okay, wake me up in 2 hours. I'll take the next watch"

Alban just hummed, listening to the sound of Sonny's calm breathing.

It had been a crazy day of running and killing zombies in this post apocalyptic world, they were both exhausted, and they still had a long way to go before they would actually be able to complete their task.

Tomorrow, maybe they won't be able to make it to the next safe location.

But right this moment, in this house where the zombies could not enter, they found a little moment of peace.

With Sonny right next to him.

That's all he could ask for.

"!!" Alban jerked awake when he realized he had fallen asleep. He didn't even notice he nodded off. He gasped, looking around wildly in a rush, half expecting zombies to be coming at him from all directions.

There were none, however, and what he felt were firm hands on his shoulder and a familiar voice asking him to breathe.

Alban found himself following the instructions from the voice until he felt his heartbeat slow down to a calmer pace. He blinked "S-Sonny?" He whispered, finally recognizing the man in front of him

"Yeah, I'm right here Alban, breathe slowly, that's it…okay you're doing great" Beside him, Sonny Brisko looked very worried.

He tried to look around. It was still dark outside, it couldn't have been more than 5 hours since they settled in the safe zone. "W-What happened?"

Sonny pressed a hand on his forehead. "You're still running a fever. Why didn't you tell me you were sick?"

"I am?" Alban didn't notice at all. Maybe it was because of all the adrenaline running through their veins all day from the running that he didn't even realize it. "I didn't even know…"

"And when were you going to tell me you injured your ankle?"

"..." He didn't know how to respond to that. it wasn't like he didn't want to tell him, the timing just didn't come right since they were literally running for their life. "It's…not that bad" he said lamely "I can still run and fight them off"

Sonny looked incredulous "Are you kidding me? We're not going out there until you're injured and sick" he says firmly

"What? but Sonny—" that would mean delaying their task, and putting a hold on stopping the impending mayhem—well, whatever it can save anyway.

Sonny's blue eyes were clear and unyielding. "No buts, Alban— I'm not risking it"

He pulled Alban closer to him and hugged him from the back. "The world outside be damned" he whispers harshly. "I only need you, Alban…"

"Sonny…"

"Okay? Let's stay here until you recover at least" Sonny knew he would not be able to persuade Alban to abandon their so-called mission, but at the very least, he would make sure he was fully okay before they go out there.

"Fine" Alban agreed after a while. Sonny figured he must still be sick and in pain because of his injury. It's a good thing this safe house still has rations and med kits left behind.

Zombie apocalypse be damned. Sonny only needed to be with Alban

No zombie nor stupid mission was going to take him away.

Not if he could help it.
