Work Text:
September 1st was always an exciting time for young witches and wizards, there was just something magical about stepping foot on platform 9 ¾ every year and seeing the hustle and bustle of the students and parents alike. Inside the train, friends were reuniting after being away from each other all summer and those who were new to Hogwarts were slowly making their way through the cabins, hoping for a familiar face.
With his shiny new badge pinned on his robes, the Slytherin head boy was making his own rounds around the train. It was one of the many duties that was listed in his longer than usual letter and one of the two duties he had to perform that day. The other being holding a meeting with the prefects and the Headgirl. It was when he stopped in a particularly rowdy cabin that his first challenge began. The first challenge being the Gryffindor Quidditch Captain and his teammates.
“Wong, I see you made head boy.” The captain smirked as soon as he popped his head inside. “Fitting.”
“And I see you made captain. No pranks on the train Ratsameerat, especially on first years.” Yin reminds sternly, knowing full well the mischief that the captain's little body held. “I will know it’s you.”
“Flattered. But I'm just a bit curious.” War tilted his head, popping his lips out in a cute pout. “Have you ever caught me? No, I don’t think you have.”
That was true, before being head boy he was prefect and although he knew that some of the most memorable pranks inside Hogwarts was War’s doing, none of the traces ever led back to him.
“True. Be careful though, I have my eyes on you.” Yin crossed his arms, leaning against the doorframe while looking at the amused captain.
“Don’t you always?’ War asked innocently, standing to face the Slytherin head boy even though he was atleast a foot taller than him. “Good day Wong, I need some time with my team. See you at the feast.”
—
There was a complicated relationship between the Slytherin Headboy and the Gryffindor Quidditch Captain. The Slytherin was the pride of a pureblood family, he was intelligent in ways that would make a Ravenclaw jealous but he was cunning and calculating, one of the best that Slytherin has ever had. Meanwhile, the Gryffindor was a cheeky half-blood who was more mischievous than his entire house combined. Add to that the fact that it was easier to make Filtch smile than to catch War Wanarat in the act. It was best to say that they were polar opposites.
“You should not be out in the halls this late.” Long arms wound around War’s waist in the dark, the familiar scent surrounding the air around him. “What if you get caught?”
“I already did, didn’t I?” He smirked, chuckling as an invisibility cloak was thrown over him. “Wow, you don’t want to be seen with me that badly.”
“I don’t want the other prefect to see you outside, I can make an excuse but you can’t risk your captaincy. Not on our first day back.”
“Hate to break it to you Wong but sneaking around IS my specialty.” The Gryffindor joked under the cloak, laughing slightly when the Slytherin sent a tired glare in his general direction. “And you haven’t caught me-”
“I caught you once.”
“That was a different time, it was a moment of weakness.”
“Alright cub, whatever you say.”
“Call me cub one more time Anan Wong and I’ll show you what a mad Gryffindor looks like.”
The one time the Slytherin caught him was actually when he was sneaking inside the Slytherin common room for an April Fools prank on the snakes. He was set on outdoing his own prank last year but what he didn’t count on was walking in on a half-dressed then Slytherin prefect in the boys dorms. Not expecting anyone to be in the dorm at the time, he let out a shriek of surprise that did not go unnoticed by the Slytherin and War knew he was in trouble. Except, the Slytherin did nothing and continued with his routine, leaving a very confused War frozen in his hiding spot. The Gryffindor was sure that the Slytherin could have busted him right then and there, the cheeky prefect even sent a smirk in his direction, and yet he still left him to do what he had come there to do in the first place.
It was a week’s worth of his eyeing the Slytherin prefect, the latter only answering with a small curl of his lips, which honestly only spurned War’s annoyance and curiosity. Soon enough, he had it with the secret glances that he just went up to Yin and confronted him about it. And the rest was history.
“What are we doing anyway? It’s unusual for you to ask me to meet you so late at night.” Yin wondered out loud, zipping his lips when they passed a set of prefects on patrol.
“We already did that area.” The Ravenclaw prefect pointed to the corridor they were currently walking to.
“Ah, okay. I just have to get something from one of the classrooms. You two head back, I’ll finish the rest of the rounds.” Yin said smoothly, impressing War with the way he didn’t even falter.
“Alright, goodnight.”
‘When the prefects were no longer in sight, War started talking, casting a silencing spell while he was at it. “That was your first lie as head boy.”
The teasing lilt in his voice didn’t go unnoticed but Yin only smirked in reply. “Who said I was lying?”
War’s silent question was answered when Yin opened one of the classrooms with a key, leaving him alone in the hall for a few seconds before emerging with a box in his hands. “I asked a professor to help me with a project over the summer and he told me I could pick it up in his classroom this evening.”
“People trust you way too much in this school.” War bemoaned, eyeing the box curiously. “What would they say if they knew you were sneaking around at night with your boyfriend?”
“Well first off, said boyfriend won’t even let me tell anyone.” Yin hummed. “For posterity.”
“Confusing people is fun and sneaking around is even more fun.” War replied easily. “It’s like a game that no one knows about.”
There really was no particular reason why they were hiding behind everyone’s backs, War just liked it that way. But a part of him also wonders what it would be like if everybody knew. He reached out and played with the drawstring of a pouch hanging on his belt and wondered if it was time.
—
“Why are we in front of the come and go room?”
“Date.” War replied simply, grabbing War’s hand and smiling brightly. “We only got to spend some time to ourselves last summer and I know this year will be tough for both of us so I figured that we should take advantage of our free time tomorrow and go on a date tonight. And since I can’t exactly take you to Hogsmeade yet, this is the next best thing.”
“You said a lot but you already got me on ‘date’.” Yin replied with a laugh, swinging their hands happily. “So what do you have in store for me tonight?”
“Close your eyes first.”
“Do you think we’re in some sort of movie?” Yin huffed, stomping his feet cutely but still giving up when War pouted up at him. “Okay fine, but just because you’re cute.”
“I’ll take that.”
War guided Yin through the door, the headboy frowning when he heard what sounded like arcade noises from around them. "What kind of room were you thinking about?" Yin wondered out loud, still trying to figure out why there were sounds around them. "Arcade?"
“Mmm close.” War answered, stepping in front of Yin. “Open.”
The first thing the headboy sees when he opens his eyes is War, his cute dimpled smile and fluffy tousled hair. Maybe he was just whipped but he swears his lover looks cuter everyday. The next thing he sees are the things around them, the rides and stalls crisscrossing the entirety of the come and go room.
“Well?”
“Amusement Park.” Yin eyes were wide, taking in the very real amusement park around them. “How?”
“Well, you weren’t the only one doing some studying over the summer. And I remembered you enjoying the muggle one we went to last Christmas and saying that you would have loved going to the park everyday, so I brought the park to you.” War explained, bouncing on his toes as he observed the shocked face of the Slytherin. Surprise! Oof-”
The little Gryffindor laughed as his taller Slytherin boyfriend engulfed him in a giant bear hug in the middle of the park he created for their special date. “I love it, thank you.”
“You’re welcome Anan. But you haven’t even seen the best part.” War looked up and raised his arms, laughing loudly when snow started falling from the ceiling. “Snow.”
“You thought of everything didn’t you?” Yin asked happily, holding out his hand and watching the snow land on his palm.
“You said you wanted to see the park in the snow so I figured, yeah why not.”
It was precious, the way War remembered everything he said that day. It wasn’t just the snow, Yin was just starting to realize that everything around him were the rides he enjoyed on their muggle date, just spiced up with a little touch of magic. There was even a little shooting stall with a bunch of stuffed animals on display.
"How did you even pull this off?" Yin asked as War grabbed his hands and they started to walk around, looking like a normal couple enjoying a casual date in an empty park. "I know the room is powerful but there are limits to what it can do."
"Always so curious, you sure the hat shouldn't have placed you in Ravenclaw?" War dragged them to a carousel, clapping softly when the ride magically started to move. "But to answer your question, it pays when the house elves love you."
---
Their night was full of laughter and a little bit of mischief, as was the case every time they were together. The Slytherin had a blast acting like a kid and running around the almost endless park while the Gryffindor just enjoyed watching his usually serious boyfriend have the time of his life. Seeing Yin smile and ooh at the magical display was worth all the research and effort that went to creating their personal park inside the castle, he knew that they would spend a lot of time in here in the future, but their night could only go for too long before their absence in their respective dorms became obvious. So it was with a happy heart that the couple finally climbed in their last ride for that night - the ferris wheel.
"Did you have fun?" War asked, heart melting a little when the Slytherin nodded happily, a dragon plushie clutched under one arm. "Then I'm happy."
"Thank you for doing this."
"Anything for my favorite Slytherin."
Yin didn't know how it was possible but fireworks lit up the faux sky above them, the light reflecting off of the snow still falling from nowhere. It was the second most beautiful sight he had seen that night, the first being the rowdy little Gryffindor who always managed to take his breath away. Just like now, the Gryffindor wasn't doing much, he was just sitting there watching the fireworks, and yet even the brilliant light display couldn't compare to him.
"I love you a lot." Yin whispered, smiling gently when the Gryffindor whipped his head to look at him. "Like a lot a lot."
But of course, War is War. "Really? How much?"
The teasing grin on his face was replaced with a blush when the Slytherin leaned over and pecked his flush cheeks before kissing his forehead. "Hard to measure."
It took a while for the War to regain his words but when he did, it was to see Yin looking at him with that knowing smirk on his lips. "Unfair. I was supposed to be the one rendering you speechless tonight."
"You render me speechless everyday."
"Flirt." War glared, eyes softening when Yin stroked his hand. "You're lucky I love you a lot too."
"And I have a gift for you, wait-" The headboy reached inside his robe and pulled out the box he had taken from the classroom earlier that night.
"It was for me?"
"Yes. Open it." The Gryffindor gasped as soon as the content of the box was revealed, instantly reaching in and petting the creature sleeping inside. "You said you wanted one of those model dragons and you've been obsessing over that muggle game you got recently with a dragon. It's a Chinese fireball."
"It's beautiful." War reached in, the dragon surprisingly docile in his palm. "Thank you Anan."
He knows he may have just single-handedly caused chaos to rain inside Hogwarts by gifting his boyfriend a model dragon but the wondrous look in his eyes made all the future headaches worth it. When the dragon leapt in his shoulder like an owl would, the Slytherin could see War practically vibrate in excitement and the only thing stopping him from kissing the ecstatic Gryffindor was the very territorial fire-breathing dragon nestled in his shoulder.
"Please tell him not to burn me." Yin joked, accepting the big hug from his very happy lover. "Did I do good?"
"Best boyfriend." War sits back down and reached for his own pouch, biting his lip in worry. "But now my gift feels a bit-"
"A bit?"
"Anan you gave me a dragon!"
"And you gave me a park plus an unforgettable date."
"I have one last thing for you." War pulls out a red shirt from his pouch, handing it quickly to Yin before hiding his face behind his new dragon. "I hope you like it."

The first game of the season was between Gryffindor and Hufflepuff, the stands were already beginning to crowd and yet the Gryffindor captain was still looking around the stadium, as if waiting for someone to show up. Up in the Gryffindor bleachers there were banners in red and gold, a roaring lion dead center in the sea of their house colors. As soon as the doors opened for the fliers, War saw who we was looking for and his heart leapt. Right now, he could fly a hundred miles without worry just because of his favorite Slytherin.
Right there in the Slytherin stands, with everyone's eyes on him, was Yin Anan Wong, Slytherin headboy. But this time there were more than the usual number of people staring at him owing to the fact that even though he was seated at the Slytherin stands, he was wearing a Gryffindor jersey with Ratsameerat emblazoned at the back. In Hogwarts that could only mean one thing.
But to the Gryffindor Quidditch Captain, it meant the world.
