Chapter 1: the one where our eyes meet for the first time

Chapter Text

She had been working in Seattle for two weeks, and her joints made her feel like she wasn't used to this lifestyle. Her muscles and head hurt, but now her shift was over and she could go to school to pick up her daughter. Zola was very excited for her first day at the new school, and despite her pain, Meredith couldn't wait for her daughter to tell her everything that had happened. By the time she entered the school building, Zola was already running towards her.

"Did they let you go alone?" Meredith asked, somewhat surprised.

"Yes, I'm already in third grade mom," Zola muttered and grabbed her mother's hand, dragging her towards the car.

"Was it that bad?" Meredith snorted  as she followed the girl.

"No, I just want to tell you," Zola sighed as she closed the passenger door.

 "Tell me how it was?"

"Great, the kids are nice, and Miss Montgomery is wonderful, pretty, and really smart.” Meredith raised her eyebrows at her daughter's words.

"Miss?" Not Mrs? – she knew someone with this name and wanted to test a disturbing Hypothesis.

"She said Miss. Why do you ask?

"I know someone, I thought she might be his wife, but doesn’t matter, tell me more," when they got home, they had dinner during which Zola kept talking. She talked about her new colleagues, what she was doing and about the teacher, which Meredith could not ignore.  She was disturbed by the fascination that this woman aroused in Zola, her Zola, she doesn’t get attach that easy. She couldn't help but search for her on Facebook. The woman was beautiful. She smiled at Meredith in her profile picture, revealing her white teeth. The next day, driving Zola to school, she decided to enter the building with her. They walked to the classroom through corridors that Meredith did not know, and Zola seemed to know them by heart after the first day. Zola stopped among a group of other children. Then she saw HER, the woman moved quickly and with incredible grace. Meredith couldn't take her eyes off her. Her breathing got stuck in her lungs when the woman stopped a little too close to her. On her face only a look full of friendly interest.

“ Can I help you? " Meredith didn't know what was happening to her. Addison's facial expression, her friendly smooth voice, her hair shimmering in artificial light. Those eyes... One of these things made her think of bending over and kissing her. It would have been easy, it was so close.

"I...” -- she didn't know what to say.

"Mom” Zola groaned. She broke eye contact with Addison, now she was able to think again.

"I wanted to say hello. So hello... I am Zola's Mother. Meredith. I'm Meredith – she stretched out her hand not surely, towards the beautiful redhead.

"Addison Montgomery, nice to meet you, Dr. Grey," she grasped her hand, smiling the rays. Meredith's heart  melted at that smile. But when she felt Addison's hand on her, she understood. She could have lost her words from stress at work. This strange thought of kissing this woman may have arisen because they were so close. But she couldn't explain the butterflies that appeared when their hands merged.

 “ How…”

"Zola mentioned you're a surgeon," Addison smiled again, and Meredith's heart  stopped for a second “You probably do a lot of great things”

"I try as hard as everyone else does," She was a mess. She was no longer a Harper Avery winning  surgeon, but a 15-year-old incredibly in love with an older boy.

"I'm sorry I have to go now, the classes have begun. Zola join us when you're ready. It was nice to meet you Dr. Grey” and with that Addison entered the classroom.

"Mom, you made me ashamed," Zola muttered and left Meredith alone.
