It was after they’d won, or close enough. Long enough that the monsters were taken care of, not long enough the bodies had been.
Just Billy, really. The other Elders, the other dead, they’d faded away, faded to dust and to ashes.
But Billy had been human to the last, and someone needed to take care of his body. And Black Hawk, well, Niccolò supposed he needed to find him.
To tell him to find his friend’s body, to bury it.
It had been just these few days, and the brilliant young man was dead.
They’d won, yet they’d lost.
