Work Text:
Jungkook flies fast with his hands full of supplies, some pretty flowers he’d been drying, soft fresh moss, and a couple of tiny wings from the baby birds that have by now learned how to fly. He can’t really see in front of him so it’s no surprise he bumps into someone and all of his things end up scattered on the ground.
“Hyung!” he whines and glares at the fairy rubbing his head on the floor.
“Hey! I was just standing here, you came right at me!” Seokjin argues, getting up and dusting his clothes off before extending a hand towards Jungkook to help him up. “I thought you were done building by now, you’d been in such a hurry the past few weeks.”
“I am done building, I’m always done on time.”
“What’s all of this for then?” Seokjin insists, helping the other fairy pick up his supplies from the ground and eyeing them with increasing suspicion and confusion. “You do realize we’ll be starting with the season change tomorrow, right?”
“Hyung, I know , okay? I know. Stop reminding me, you’re making me more nervous!”
“About what? This happens every couple of moons, it’s not like- Ohhh, wait a minute, I see,” Seokjin smiles knowingly, following Jungkook through their village, where they’ll leave behind the area built for the warm summer and spring months, in favour of the more concealed one they’ll use for the colder seasons of autumn and winter.
“N-no you don’t. What is that supposed to mean?” Jungkook asks defensively, a dark blush high on his cheeks. Seokjin shrugs.
“I see,” he repeats and Jungkook glares at him once more, a sight too cute to be at all intimidating. “Namjoon told me,” he finally admits and Jungkook’s whole body turns pink with embarrassment.
“He what! But he promised he’d keep it a secret!”
Seokjin laughs and Jungkook’s pout persists.
“He didn’t mean to tell me, it just kinda slipped that one day you had him and Yoongi up all night looking for river stones and bits of wood. But honestly, Jungkookie, I think everyone has figured it out by now.”
“What?”
“You’re too in love to hide it,” Seokjin smiles, then gasps when they reach the beautiful little cottage Jungkook has been secretly building all summer. It’s hidden among the huge roots of a large tree. Little wooden stairs lead up to the front door, which is framed by carefully braided pink and white flowers. River stones keep the base steady, and the roof is covered in layers of green moss. There is a small window to the side of the door, made from blue glass that has been sanded by the current of the river, making it hard to see inside. It looks cozy, warm, and simply perfect for the cold months to come.
Jungkook is an excelent builder. He is fast and careful with any and all projects given to him. But he is usually far more concerned about being effective than aesthetically pleasing. The cottage that he works on now in front of Seokjin is far more adorned than what he’d usually do. Meticulous tiny details are everywhere on it, the cravings of flowers and bees on the wood of the front door, the flowers peeking among the moss on the rooftop, the porch and railing around the front of the house. Jungkook even bothered to create a welcome mat out of dried flowers in front of the front door.
“Do you think he knows?” Jungkook asks nervously, frantically stuffing and fixing the feathers on the roof, under the moss to help keep the inside of the house warm.
“Who?” Seokjin asks distractedly, taking a seat on the pretty little bench Jungkook made for the porch and placing the supplies he helped carry next to him.
“Jimin!” Jungkook replies in a secretive whisper. “Do you think he knows? I wanted it to be a surprise.”
Seokjin shakes his head, willing himself out of his dumbfounded state to focus on the conversation.
“No, no. I don’t think he does. And you should thank Taehyung for that, he’s been keeping him distracted. You know Jimin likes to spy on his seasonal houses before the move-in day. I honestly have no idea what he has been doing to keep him away from snooping around but whatever it is, it’s been working.”

“Jiminie! Are you excited for the new season?” Hoseok asks cheerfully, bursting through the door of the honeycomb on a bee. He jumps off, covered in pollen from the tips of his hair to his feet.
“Hobi-hyung!” Jimin smiles from behind the counter. From behind him, struggling to pull the bee that came with Hoseok in the right direction to collect its pollen, Taehyung shakes his head frantically. Hoseok looks at the fairy with a confused expression before his focus returns to Jimin. He hands him his hollowed-out acorn containers to be filled with nutritious honey. “I am! I haven’t had the chance to take a peek at what the house Yoongi-hyung is building for me this year will look like,” Jimin replies, stirring a pot of honey before beginning the task of filling the containers up.
“I haven’t either, I’m always extra busy when autumn is around the corner because the animals start really getting on their food-gathering mentality, especially the ones that hibernate.” Hoseok stretches his arms above his head and flutters his wings a couple of times to stretch his legs off the ground, pollen falls to the ground all around him and there’s quickly another fairy with a leaf and a wooden bowl collecting the rest of it that sticks to his skin. “But I thought Jungkookie was building your house this time?” Hoseok asks confused, lifting his arms so the quiet honey fairy can collect the pollen at his sides too.
“Jungkook?” Jimin asks, movements stilling and pink spreading over his cheeks.
“Yeah! He’s really excited about it. Yoongi said he-”
“AHH!” Taehyung’s sudden loud scream interrupts their conversation.
“Tae!” Jimin exclaims and rushes to help his friend, who seemingly slipped and fell into the large pot containing the honey that is not quite ready yet, the one that’s still too dense and sticky. Jimin stands on the edge and takes Taehyung’s hands in his, using all of his strength to try and help Taehyung out without much success. A different fairy takes over the task of serving a laughing Hoseok his honey and Jimin forgets about their conversation.

“What happened to you?” Jungkook asks in a fit of giggles when he runs into Taehyung by the creek. The honey fairy is still drenched in the thick yellow liquid, wings, clothes and hair pressed flat to his body.,
“I was saving your ass, Romeo,” Taehyung scoffs while Jungkook continues to laugh at him.
“So you decided to take a bath in the honey?”
“Yeah,” Taehyung laments, walking closer to the edge of the water to start washing himself. “I made a fool of myself in front of Hobi and everyone else!” He splashes water on his face and carefully cleans around his eyes.
Jungkook laughs, taking Taehyung’s hands in his and guiding him deeper into the water carefully.
“Oh! Oh, it’s already getting so much colder,” Taehyung complains while the other one slowly helps him peel his wings from his back to rinse them. “That’s good,” the honey-covered fairy says after a moment, once his wings stop weighing way too much and he can flutter them again. “Thanks, but you should go check on Jimin. If you take any longer he might decide to come looking for you and might end up spoiling your surprise.”
Jungkook nods, and places a kiss on Taehyung's cheek with a quick, “thank you,” before dashing off towards the honeycomb.
Jungkook is purple, his wings and his hair a soft lavender tone that identifies him as a building fairy. Jimin is yellow, warm like the sun, sweet like honey. Jimin is everything Jungkook has ever dreamed of and more. He loves the way he laughs, how he’s so careful with bees, he loves napping with him on the petals of flowers and chasing each other through meadows of tall grass. Jungkook loves Jimin and he wants to be with him as many hours of the day as possible.
Jungkook is too distracted, precisely by thoughts of Jimin and how much he loves him, to realise he is flying straight at him. They bump into each other and tumble to the ground amidst the delicate flapping of their wings and soft giggles.
"I told you to slow down!" Jimin laughs, rubbing his sore forehead with one of his hands. Jungkook does the same, a dark blush on his cheeks.
"Sorry," he apologizes, too embarrassed to say he hadn't even heard Jimin. "I seem to be a bit distracted today. I also flew into Jin-hyung earlier."
Jimin laughs again he isn't surprised by this, he knows Jungkook is the kind to get a little too lost in his head sometimes.
"Why? Are you just excited for the change of season?" Jimin asks as he gets on his feet and dusts his clothes off. Jungkook follows suit, avoiding the other fairy's face as he struggles not to stutter a response.
"Yeah," he finally says, a little too high-pitched and loud. Jimin smiles and takes Jungkook's hand in his, jumping up into the air a bit and then pulling them in the direction of the beehive.
"Me too! I can't wait to see my new home, I bet it'll be so cosy, I'm so excited," Jimin giggles. He is beaming with happiness, all golden locks and the prettiest of smiles. Jungkook loves him so much. "I was actually on my way to get a little peek at the new houses. But since I ran into you let's go pick up your ration of honey first."
And this is what they do. They return to the honeycomb and Jimin pulls out Jungkook’s containers. He excitedly tells him about the honey they’ve been making and lets him try a little bit of the batch that isn’t quite done yet and Taehyung took a little swim into. Jungkook’s arms are full of jars of honey, a couple too many aren’t his but actually Jimin’s, who insists like any other time that he should take the extra because he has to work so hard and needs the extra portion of nutritious substance to be healthy. Jungkook doesn’t complain, he takes all of the jars with a goofy smile and a soft blush, full-well knowing Jimin doesn’t give any of the other building fairies any extras.
“Would you like to come with me to the season change ceremony tomorrow?” Jungkook asks with a nervous stutter and Jimin stops his movements with a gasp.
“Really?” The honey fairy asks, looking surprised and excited and Jungkook nods, face all red. “I’d love to!” He beams with a handful of quick nods.
“Then do me a favour and don’t go look at the new flower houses tonight. I want to see your reaction tomorrow while I’m with you,” he smiles and Jimin nods again, lifting up his pinky and promising not to try and sneak a peek at his new home. Jungkook leaves satisfied, and it’s a miracle he manages not to crash into anyone else on his way home.

The fairies gather in the meadow, ready for the ceremony that season fairies like Seokjin and Namjoon will be leading, along with animal fairies like Hoseok setting up a little spectacle with the squirrels and the fireflies. It’s among fairy dust and the slow rise of the sun that the leaves of the trees turn orange, brown, and red. The soft breeze blows colder as Seokjin flies quickly right past Jungkook and Jimin, letting the chill linger behind him. They cheer and clap as they watch the fairies pass them by deeper into the forest to spread the official season change through it all.
“Close your eyes,” Jungkook turns to Jimin excitedly as they flutter to the ground and the fairies around them start moving to their new houses. Jimin tilts his head confused, but quickly complies with a smile and closes his eyes. Jungkook takes his hand and carefully guides him through the grass, the stone, and the tree roots while making sure Jimin keeps his eyes closed. They get in front of the cottage and Jungkook stands nervously, his palms are unbelievably sweaty. In fairy culture asking one to live together is one of the greatest displays of affection and commitment there is. He is nervous about Jimin rejecting him, although all of his friends have reassured him there is no way that would happen Jungkook can’t help but feel scared. He dries his hands on his pants and takes one last quick look at the home to make sure it still looks perfect, and once he is satisfied he then takes a deep breath before telling Jimin with a soft whisper to open his eyes.
Jimin does, blinking a few times to get used to the light of the sun again and then taking in the beautiful sight of the home in front of him. His eyes water and his hands come to cover his mouth with a shaky breath.
“Did you make this for me?” Jimin asks, taking a few tentative steps closer. Jungkook nods wordlessly. “It’s beautiful,” the honey fairy smiles. He flies closer to look at all of the little details and there are tears running down his face when he turns to look at Jungkook again.
“Do you like it?” the builder asks and Jimin sighs, zooming to crash into with and pull him into a tight hug.
“I love it!” Jungkook smiles, some of his nervousness dissipating with the knowledge that Jimin likes his new home. He takes another deep breath before speaking again, “would you like to live here… with me?”
Jimin squeezes him even tighter and nods. “Yes, yes! Jungkookie, a million times yes!” Jungkook can feel Jimin’s tears on his neck as he returns the hug just as tight. They take a moment to catch their breaths and slow down their tears but soon after Jungkook picks Jimin up and carries him back to the door. Jimin laughs, kicking his feet and pressing a kiss to Jungkook’s cheek before the door is pushed open and an instant later he finds himself laying on a soft bed of flowers and moss. Jimin takes Jungkook’s face in his hands and pulls him in for an unashamed kiss on the lips that has the younger one turning completely pink. Jimin tastes like sweet honey and his skin is as warm as the morning sun.
Jungkook lets himself be pulled into the bed and they spend the rest of the day cuddled inside their cozy new home sharing kisses and smiles. Warm and happy, safe in each other’s arms from the chilling air that blows outside the door.
