Chapter Text
“Ugh,” Kurt sighs as he lays his head on the kitchen counter. He’s completely surrounded by papers, magazine cutouts, music sheets, and his desperate attempts at finishing all of his work on time. It’s times like these that Kurt really appreciates the fact that he lives alone.
“Alright, Kurt. Fix your posture. Sit up straight. You can do this. You’re almost done with…” he trails off as he looks at his checklist, “one assignment… out of ten.”
“What is wrong with me lately?” Kurt says exasperatedly as he runs his hand through his hair. He shuffles around the papers until he miraculously finds his phone. “Great. It’s already 1PM, and nothing is done.”
Kurt sighs for the umpteenth time and scrolls through various song playlists, stopping when he reaches a Michael Jackson playlist made by Rachel. It became a tradition within the New Directions to create a playlist based on that week’s lesson as a way to help remind everyone of the good memories. It was a lovely idea and one that Kurt is grateful for almost every week. He misses all of them. Yes, even after three years, he still has a strong connection to the Glee Club.
“Oh god, did I peak in high school?” Kurt asked no one in particular.
Sighing, Kurt looked back down at his phone and clicked on the playlist. With “Smooth Criminal” playing in the background, Kurt can't help but think about how times have changed. No longer is he with Blaine. No longer is he worrying about his NYADA application.
Annie, are you okay? (I don't know)
Will you tell us that you're okay? (I don't know)
There's a sound at the window (I don't know)
And, yes, of course, how could he forget… No longer is he enemies with Sebastian Smythe.
Kurt still isn’t completely sure how it all happened, but one day Sebastian appeared seemingly out of nowhere in New York and continued to appear just about everywhere he was, despite not going to the same colleges. After the initial shock of seeing Sebastian three years later, they were actually able to become friends. Sebastian seemed to commit to becoming a better person, not that he ever stopped with his constant crude and sarcastic remarks. Not that Kurt minded, in fact, he quite enjoyed it. Their constant back-and-forth was riveting and borderline flirtatious. Not that it meant anything, of course. It was all very much platonic. Yes, platonic.
With the sound of footsteps approaching him, Kurt snapped out of his trance and was now acutely aware of Sebastian somehow standing in front of him, his now open front door, and the start of “I Want You Back” playing from his phone.
“Wha-”
“Well, guess that’s my cue,” Sebastian smirks and starts singing.
“When I had you to myself, I didn't want you around
Those pretty faces always made you stand out in a crowd”
Before Kurt can even ask what on earth Sebastian is doing, Sebastian puts a finger up to Kurt’s mouth to quiet him.
“But someone picked you from the bunch, one glance was all it took
Now it's much too late for me to take a second look”
Rendered unable to speak, all Kurt can do is stare as Sebastian sings and circles around him. If Kurt was in the right state of mind, he might’ve been blushing, unless he was. All he could do at that moment was close his mouth after his jaw went slack and turn his head as Sebastian moved throughout his apartment.
“Oh, baby, all I need is one more chance
To show you that I love you
Won't you please let me
Back in your heart”
As Sebastian performed around his apartment, Kurt was slowly able to accept what was happening right in front of him. One, Sebastian somehow got inside his apartment. Two, he is singing a song that he used to flirt with Blaine. Three, he is now singing it to him. Four, his jazz hands and genuine smile are very charming. Five, he’s charmed by Sebastian? Six, oh my god. He’s charmed by Sebastian.
“Oh, I want you back! Ha!”
Sebastian smirks, bows, and heads toward the door.
“Oh, and Kurt, trust me, you did not peak in high school.” Sebastian looks back and winks as he walks out the door.

If anyone asked how Kurt managed to finish all of his work that day, he would never say. He would, however, remind them to double (or maybe even triple) check their locks.
