Work Text:
Niki woke all at once. Not that she was startled awake, but rather, she was just very suddenly aware of everything going on around her. She was aware of her arm, asleep underneath the weight of Puffy; she was– in her opinion– too aware of the chill going deep into her bones despite the warmth of her girlfriend pressed up next to her.
Shifting, Niki draped her arm that wasn’t trapped underneath Puffy across her chest and pulled her into a hug as the sheep hybrid continued to sleep, not ready to face the world.
It was too bad that Puffy wasn’t exactly known for being a heavy sleeper; she stirred at the changing in positions and cracked her eyes open to meet Niki’s own.
“You’re up early,” Puffy mumbled, pressing a kiss onto her jawline, adjusting so Niki’s arm wasn’t trapped under her.
Niki nestled herself into Puffy’s shoulder, tucking her head into her neck. “It’s cold,” she complained quietly, which made Puffy chuckle, shaking the both of them tightly. “Don’t laugh.”
Puffy hummed and pulled away from Niki, getting out of bed; she tucked Niki back in under the blankets before she went to the window. “Well, that would explain it.”
“What?” Niki pushed herself onto her elbows, looking at Puffy on the other side of their bedroom through half-lidded eyes.
Puffy pulled the curtain away, revealing a completely white scene on the other side of the window. “It’s snowing,” Puffy said, giddily.
Niki wasn't nearly as amused — Puffy picked up on that much, immediately striding back over to the bed. “What’s with the face, cupcake?” She asked with a smirk.
“You know I hate that one,” Niki groaned softly, pushing at Puffy’s shoulder as she leaned in and kissed her forehead. “It’s just– you know– the bakery is going to be crowded, and people are going to track slush in and–”
Puffy cut her off with another kiss, “I think you’re just being grouchy because you haven’t gotten to have any tea or breakfast. Once you get something in you and you get baking, I know you’ll be ready to face the day.”
Reluctantly, Niki allows Puffy to pull her out of bed; her day starts in a whirlwind of flour and kisses and layers of knitted things to keep her warm.
