Work Text:

Lux always loved the holidays. This year, she was given the honour of hosting the Christmas Eve party for the Star Guardians.
Of course, she wanted it to be perfect. Everyone would be there, and she wouldn't let them down. She woke up before dawn to start getting things ready. Decorations were already up, thanks to Jinx insisting on putting them up the first day of December. Janna and Poppy had agreed to help Lux cook, and LuLu said she'd make cupcakes for dessert.

Lux spent the morning cooking, making sure the house was clean, perfecting her Christmas playlist. She even put up some more decorations, even a mistletoe, for fun.
She had already finished with the Eggnog before Janna got up. Everyone had wanted to sleep in, despite how exciting the day was. She knew they'd all wake her up far too early the next morning with the motivation of presents.

After Janna woke up, everyone else slowly woke up as well, since she starting using the oven which required the obnoxiously loud fan. Poppy was second up, who started her jobs after showering and dressing in the clothes Lux had basically mandated.

By then it was appropriate to start playing music and wake everyone else up. Jinx was stubborn and tried to sleep through all the noise, but LuLu convinced her to get up by offering to watch movies with her all morning.
Jinx walked around with a blanket on all morning. The heating was working perfectly fine, but she was especially sensitive to the cold. Lux thought it was cute.

It got colder throughout the day as snow fell. Thankfully the roads were salted before, so Ahri's team wouldn't have any trouble getting over. Jinx had started a fire, in the fire place for once. Lux didn't even have to ask, Jinx was just freezing.
Everyone spent the day cooking and baking, except for Jinx as she couldn't be trust near food or an oven. It took a long time to make all the food, since there was only one oven and only so many dishes. Ahri's team was coming around five, and they only finished cooking at four thirty, leaving only a short amount of time for Lux to shower and get dressed.

After a long day of stress and work, Lux finally let herself relax. Ahri being the old woman of the Guardians, was late, of course. Lux was thankful, it gave her some time to sit on the couch and watch The Empire Strikes Back, which wasn't a Christmas movie, but Jinx said it was because there was snow.

There was only one issue.

Lux could tell that Jinx was a little annoyed with her. She knew why, it was because she was stressing all day, which Jinx thought was stupid that she did that to herself.
It was fine. Jinx would forget about it as soon as everyone arrived and she had other matters to occupy her mind.
Or she'd mope all night.
Hopefully not the latter.

A good thirty minutes passed before the door bell finally rang, Poppy ran for the door before anyone could even get up. Lux quickly followed, making sure to remind Jinx to behave, which she doubted would do any good. She loved glaring at Ezreal till he had to ask if it was safe.

"Lux!" Ahri smiled, greeting her with a quick hug.
"I think you've won in decorations" she said looking around as she pulled back from the hug.
"Jinx did all the decorations, that's why there's fake heads on sticks in the yard." Lux chuckled
"Makes sense."
Lux totally forgot to take those down before everyone arrived. But at least Jinx was creative, right?
While Ahri went to go put the gifts they'd brought under the tree, Lux greeted everyone else. She could feel Jinx's glare when Ezreal kissed her cheek, which wasn't even a big deal. He was probably French or something.
She didn't know why Jinx hated him so much, she'd always say he was dumb and blonde, or something along those lines.

Everything was going well. Everyone was smiling, eating, trying to figure out what was inside the gift boxes.
Lux sat on the couch with Ezreal, trying to have a conversation, but he was very on edge with Jinx glaring at him from across the room like a guard dog ready to attack at any moment. Ezreal was literally sweating, maybe it was just because they were near the fire, but Jinx was probably a factor.

"Do you want her to stop that?" Lux asked interrupting Ezreal's nervous chatter. He shut his mouth and nodded, careful not to glance back at Jinx.
Lux sighed standing up, walking over to Jinx and grabbing her arm and starting to drag her towards her room. What was odd was that Jinx was smirking, which was weird since she was in trouble.

"Why are you smiling?" Lux asked shut the door and leaning her back against it.
"No reason" Jinx smirked falling back onto Lux's bed, swinging her legs over the edge. Okay. She did not seem grumpy, at all.
"You've been upset all day, then you wouldn't stop glaring at Ez, and now you're smiling?"
"Mhm"
Lux sighed. Knowing Jinx, she was probably trying to confuse her on purpose.
"Will you stop glaring at Ez?"
Jinx sat up grinning
"Sure. He'll probably shut up anyways."
Lux lifted an eye brow
"Jinx, did you put laxatives in his drink again?"
"That would be funny, but no"
"Then what did you do?"
Jinx stood up and walked over to Lux, wrapping an arm around her shoulder.
"It's what I'm gonna do,"
Jinx paused, bitting her lip
"Don't hate me, 'kay?"
Lux grimaced. That couldn't be good.
"Is someone getting hurt?"
"Maybe just some feelings."
That wasn't as bad as someone getting sent to the ER. Still bad. Jinx was very good at hurting feelings.

"Is there any stopping you?" Lux asked as Jinx grabbed the door nob.
"Eh...nope. Would it help if I said Janna approved?"
That was even more confusing. If it really was Janna approved, how bad could it be?
"Yes?"
Jinx grinned and opened the door, only taking a single step so they both stood in the doorway. Lux, confused, looked around to see everyone staring at them. She turned to Jinx who was smirking and pointing upwards. Lux slowly looked up, to the top of the door where a little green mistletoe hung.
Her face turned red as she quickly looked back to Jinx, who grinned down at her.

Jinx's plan was perfect. Act up, get told off in Lux's room, while Janna hung the mistletoe. It surprisingly wasn't that hard to convince Janna. All she had to do was explain how much she loved Lux and that it wasn't just a prank.
Of course, Jinx would just play it off as a prank. Lux was her best friend, and she didn't expect Lux to feel the same. Which made a mistletoe the perfect and only way to kiss her without it really doing anything to their friendship. It would just be quick, but it would be enough.

The only part that wasn't really her pretending to be grumpy, was glaring at Ezreal.
He is not French.
He's just got a massive crush on Lux, who Jinx could only hope didn't like him back. Anyone was better than him. Especially her. And now she has the perfect plan to kiss Lux right in front of that blond idiot.
It was a sound plan. Totally something she'd do, so Lux wouldn't think to much about it. Hopefully.

Here she was. Trying her best not to glance at Ezreal to give him her best shit eating grin. Jinx managed to keep her focus on Lux, who's face was a mixture of confusion and shock. And a little red. Probably cause the fire was really warming the place up.

Jinx didn't take another moment.
Quick. Simple. Like a kiss on the head but on the lips.
She leaned forward, kissing Lux with as little passion as humanly possible. It was enough.
She immediately pulled back and grinned again, and going along with her plan, acted like it was nothing.
She looked over to Ezreal, who has a very clear view of what just happened, and who's mouth was wide open.
Jinx grinned at him. His shock was almost as satisfying as kissing Lux.
She glanced at Lux, who was still completely frozen, patted her shoulder, and casually strolled into the kitchen.

Easy.

Half the room was in shock and the other half was smirking. LuLu, Poppy, and Ezreal all looked like they'd just seen Jinx's browser history.
Janna, strangely, looked very disappointed. Which was weird because she was originally she had been totally against it.
Jinx hesitantly walked over to Janna, like she was approaching a squirrel that had rabies. She was leaning against the wall, watching Jinx very closely as she approached.
Great. She definitely fucked up.
"That was terrible."
Yikes.
"I thought I nailed it." Jinx said nonchalantly. She did. It was simple, quick, and perfectly played off.
"Jinx, that was the most unromantic thing I have ever seen."
"That's the point. I don't want to think I'm in love with her."
"But you are," Janna sighed
"You need to at least explain yourself. Lux is probably confused, and you know she'll stress over it."
Jinx grumbled and crossed her arms
"You thought my plan was good."
"Yes well you executed it terribly. Fix things or you aren't getting any presents."
Jinx gasped dramatically and stared at Janna
"You witch!"
Janna just rolled her eyes
"If Lux has bags under her eyes in the morning, I'll know you didn't talk to her."
Jinx huffed "fine."
"And for the love of the first star, don't make things worse."

Ahri's team had left. Everyone was asleep. Except Jinx. Who was still try to figure out what to do. She wouldn't confess her feelings, obviously. Maybe she'd just apologize and say it was a stupid joke, that went to far.
Yeah.
That was a good idea. No harm. No confessing.

Jinx quietly opened her door, which had a nasty creak whenever it moved. Another reason she strongly preferred staying in Lux's room.
She tiptoed down the hall, making as little sound as possible. She knew she'd probably have to wake Lux up, but she did that all the time. No biggie.
Jinx knocked five times, paused, and twice more. It was just the way she always did it.
With no answer, Jinx opened the door and strolled in. Lux was laying on her back holding her pillow over her head.
Yikes.
She quietly shut the door and walked over to Lux's bed, sitting down next to her. Lux still didn't do anything. Jinx grumbled and grabbed the pillow trying to pry it away, but Lux held onto it.
"Damn Lux, did you get stronger?" Jinx asked finally tugging the pillow away. Lux sighed and stared up at her for a moment before sitting up, pulling her legs to her chest. Silently. Eerily silently.
"Okay if you aren't gonna say anything I'll just say it, because you being quiet is a little intimidating"
Jinx took a deep breath.
"Sorry about the mistletoe thing, it was stupid, and a dumb idea."
She totally sounded like a gun was being held to her head.
Lux glared at her.
"What?! I apologized! Or is this because of Ezreal?"
Jinx hadn't even thought of that before!
"Did I ruin your chances with Prince Charming?" Jinx cooed. If Lux was mad about that, let her be. That guy was a walking red flag.
"I don't like him," Lux finally said
"Did you do that just to piss him off?"
Huh. The only way she could respond was yeah, not like she was going to do anything el-
"Or did you just want to kiss me?"
Jinx froze.
Only for a second. She was unfrozen by the heat in her face.
"What?! No! That's stupid!" Fuck she wasn't making eye contact. Lux definitely noticed that if she hadn't noticed her pale skin light up.
"If you did you could've just said so" Lux grumbled burring her face in her knees.
Jinx really hopped Lux couldn't hear her heart. It was beating at an unhealthy speed. She could just..say so?
"You'd kiss me?" Jinx chuckled nervously, acting as if it was a joke.
Lux shrugged.
"If I went and grabbed the mistletoe and held it above our heads, hypothetically, what would you do?"
"Jinx, please just be straight with me. If you want to tell me something, now is the time." Lux said lifting her head and staring at Jinx.
One. It was impossible to be 'straight' with her.
Two. What the fuck.
Jinx's brain was malfunctioning,
She was smart. She was good at thinking of things quickly. But right now? Nothing was working.
She just stared at Lux blankly.
"Why did you kiss me Jinx?"
Jinx gulped
"I-I dunno, I...wanted to, i guess?" Jinx stuttered careful with what she said
"Do you want to again?"
"Hm?!" Jinx squeaked.
Did she hear that right?
Was she tripping?
"Please Jinx. Just tell me what you feel."
Why was her mouth so dry all of the sudden?
"I...I dunno what you're asking for Lux"
Lux groaned and scooted closer to Jinx, grabbing either side of her face. Jinx's chest hurt from how hard her heart was beating, and she was pretty sure her face was actually cooking.
Fuck it.
Jinx grumbled and avoided looking at Lux, taking a deep breath.
"Fine! Maybe I do like you as more than a friend! Okay? Is that so terrible?!"
"Jinx-"
Great, she's probably digging her grave right now.

"I know it's fuckin stupid, and I know it's probably against your morals, and I know it's probably really creepy-"
Lux threw her hand over Jinx's mouth, actually laughing.
Jinx was pretty sure she was confusing her on purpose.
"Why are you laughing?!" She asked after managing to pry Lux's hand off her her mouth. She couldn't tell if it was a good laugh or a bad laugh.
"Come here" Lux managed to say, still calming her laughter as she hugged Jinx, very tightly.
"I'm so glad."
...
Did Jinx forget to take her medication? She had to be hallucinating, right? Lux couldn't be glad Jinx liked her that way, no one would.

"Huh?" Jinx managed to breath out, not even functioning enough to reciprocate the hug. She could hardly focus on anything. She didn't know if she should focus on what Lux had said, the feeling of her breath on her neck, or her own heartbeat that she was pretty sure would cause medical issues later on.
"I love you Jinx."
No shit. They were best friends.
"Capital L." Lux clarified
Oh.
...
Oh.
That was.
Awesome.

"Lux did I take my medicine this morning?" Jinx asked. Lux pulled back from the hug, leaving her hands on Jinx's shoulders.
"Yes?"
"I'm not hallucinating then?"
Lux snorted
"No"
Jinx hummed.
Took a moment to calm herself, which of course would only be temporary, the second she was alone she'd probably do a dance that looked more like a seizure.
She finally let herself smile.
"I can't wait to see the look on Ezreal's face when I tell him about this."
"You know he won't believe you"
"I'll leave evidence" Jinx smirked.
"Wh-"
Jinx kissed her. She wrapping her arms around Lux's neck, pressed their faces together, and actually kissed her. A real kiss. Not the pathetic one from before.
Lux kissed her back.
Lux loved her.
She loved Lux.
Capital Ls.
Best Christmas ever.
