Work Text:
I never thought this would make me cry. I mean, when I sent her off to Heinrich, I honestly never expected to see her again. I had hoped, of course, you always hope, but when they were carting me off and confiscating all the ones I couldn’t get out of my house, I worried for her. She was one of my greatest prides and joys, and though of course you can’t really pick between your children, I did send her to Heinrich instead of anyone or anywhere else. Someone like him would surely know what to do with a girl like her.
And I was right. Oh, I was right. And it was better than I could have hoped. I didn’t see her again. But I saw what she had done to those kids. I saw in their eyes the same sadness I felt when I packed her up and sent her away. They were afraid, not because of what she could do, but because she was their friend. It wasn’t until seeing the worry in their eyes that I was confident that what I was planning would work.
So now I’m making this incredibly illegal neural network. Not for the first time, though the one I already made once is currently either sitting in an evidence locker or has already been destroy. At least this means I know what I’m doing. Not that I’m worried about screwing up. What really worries me is what she’ll do when it’s all done. What she’ll be. Whether she’ll still love me when it’s all done.
I have to take of my goggles to wipe out a tear. I guess this is what it means to be a father. I guess this is what it means to really let go.
