Work Text:

Luz woke up from a nightmare. The events of last week were on repeat in her head, day and night. Belos’ monstruous form, the Collector, the destroying of the Titan’s head. She still felt King’s grip on her hand just before he screamed to send them, Luz and her friends, through the portal. She didn’t cry at first. The shock prevented that. She cried on second night, in Amity’s arms. She felt so guilty for everything. For helping Philip, for getting captured by Kikimora, for leading her friends to the Titan’s head. Everything was her fault, despite everything her friends could say.

“Luz… Are you okay?” Amity’s voice made Luz look up from the ground. She was sitting on her bed, in her old room. Luz nodded but her heart wasn’t it. Amity came closer and silently asked if she wanted a hug. Luz took a deep and slow breath. Amity sat next to her and embraced her girlfriend.

“I miss them so much…” Luz’s voice crackled, tears filling her eyes.

“I know.” Amity softly murmured. “I’m probably sure they’re fine, though.”

“How can you be so sure?”

“We… I mean the Collector stopped the day of Unity, which means everyone survived. As long as they play along with them, everyone will be fine.”

Luz hummed. Her eyes felled on Eda’s old grudgby jacket. She got up on her feet, breaking from Amity’s embrace, and went to take the clothing item. She held it in her arm, like a comforting plushie. Unfortunately, the smell of the Owl House was long gone, replaced by Luz’s. She came back next to Amity, the jacket still in her arm.

“Luz?”

“Hmm?”

“A paper fell from the jacket.” Amity pointed on the ground, at a folded, amber-coloured piece of paper that wasn’t here before. Luz frowned, picked it up and unfolded it.

It was a letter.

She recognises the writing and her heart skipped a beat.

Hey kid,

I hope you’ll find this letter (but if you read those words, that means you found it). You’re probably on your way to save your girlfriend (or you already saved her, in that case give her a kiss from me).

“Luz?” The distant voice of Amity was calling her, but the human couldn’t hear. She was frozen, her hands trembling on the piece of paper holding the words of the Owl Lady.

I know you’re probably worried about our plan, about Raine and Darius, about what Belos can do. But I’m still the Owl Lady! I was the most powerful witch on the Boiling Isles and I still rock!

If I knew earlier I’ll have to stop our emperor, who chased me for so long, because he’s a witch hunter from the Human Realm, maybe things would have been different. But I don’t want things to be different. Because I met you, Luz. You’re the most amazing kid I’ve ever met, you’re extraordinary, and the most powerful witch I know, for a human. Well, apart from me, of course.

She had struggle to read as tears were brimming her eyes.

When this is all over, I’ll help you set the perfect date for you and Bossy Boots, you deserve it.

Take care of King until I returned. You two are the most precious thing that ever happened in my life.

And if I don’t…

Luz’s heart sank at the bottom of her stomach.

See you after the day of Unity.

Stay weird, Luz the Human.

Eda

She fell on her knees and Amity rushed over her. It was too much for the human. She was crying, sobbing, wetting the words of her mom, her other mom. Amity was here, next to her, caressing her hair. But Luz wasn’t here. She was still on the Boiling Isles, realising if the day of Unity still took place, it’s because something happened to Eda.

“So, you two protect each other, and we'll be back together before you know it.”

Those were the last words they shared. The last words Eda ever said to her. And probably the last words she would ever hear from her mother.

Notes:

Are you okay? Because I'm not.
