Work Text:
It was a few weeks after Thanos snapped.
Everything was quiet, people still roamed around though. It was winter now, and the chilly air represented how everyone and everything felt during this time. People walked passed the cemetery that was sprinkled with bits of snow. Two particular people came by the cemetery every day, to crouch down in front of a grave stone that read the name 'Edward 'Eddie' Brock'. He died during the Thanos snap, his life turned to ashes and he cried and cried, knowing that he was dying and couldn't do anything about it. Annie and Dan came by the grave every evening after work, to lower their heads at the loss of their closest friend, someone they cared about so deeply.
"Feels unreal." Annie murmured slowly, mostly to herself but Dan overheard next to her. Annie felt her eyes prickle with tears, and bit her lip to stop the river of cries out of her mouth. She still cared about Eddie, not the way she used to, but he was a dear friend to her and even after everything he did, he did everything he could to fix it. It meant a lot to Anne, and he meant a lot to her too. "Both of them.. Eddie, Venom..."
"It does." Dan replied, quieter. He looked up at the snow that was still falling lightly, then back to the grave that they both kept as clean as they could. Dan brushed some snow off the top, and sorted through the pot of flowers so they didn't wilt. After ten minutes, they got up and left. The heartbreak never left, even at home, it felt so weird not having Eddie around anymore. Or Venom. They were the excitement in their life, always wondering what they were going to get up to next, who they were going to save next and how they would keep silent.

The next morning, just as the sun was about to peek over the horizon and melt some of the snow that stuck to the ground, a black cat stalked through the cemetery. After a long trip of walking to the nearest wildflower field a few miles away from San Francisco. People thought black cats as bad luck, or misfortune should they cross your path. The caretaker often tried to chase the cat away when he spotted it, thinking the cat would bring the dead back luck for simply being around, but that didn't stop it. The cat had been on a long journey, miles of walking to the nearest wildflower field to pick flowers for this special time.
The cat walked through the grass, holding a mouthful of flowers in its mouth. They were daisies. The cat sat down in front of the grave and dropped the flowers down on top of it, then raised a paw to gently touch the words 'Eddie' engraved on the stone. My dear Eddie, my darling, my starshine. That's what you called me, called us. The cat meowed quietly, almost sadly, and curled in front of the stone with the flowers. You loved us, and we loved you. My everything, my light, my sweetheart. Venom's heart wailed and sobbed for his Eddie. His cry had become so loud and desperate that it made everyone on the planet sad, and miserable, even things off the planet. Venom was heartbroken, and it was unusual for a Symbiote like him to experience such strong emotions, especially without a conscious host to regulate them.
He wailed so loud. So much. Everyday, he wanted to wake up in this cat body and find Eddie next to him, alive, well, crying for him the way he cried for him too. Venom wanted it to be a bad dream, something he could wake up from and change the past, something that could turn back time and save the universe like they tried to. Eddie cried while he died, he sobbed, not because he was dying but knowing he was going without his love. Venom wailed for him while he died, tried to wrap himself around Eddie and heal him from the torture of death, tried to keep him alive but all efforts led to nothing. Eddie turned to ash, and Venom was left alone. He was scared, by himself, and he didn't know what to do without him. But Venom didn't want another host, he did not want to bond with another human after what they had been through together. Venom found this black cat stalking around the cemetery, and now uses its body to live just so he can visit Eddie's grave and leave him flowers. He loved flowers.
My Eddie, my everything. We miss you. We cannot imagine this life without you. Let us die here, with you, and be together again in another life. Venom laid there on the grave, still, silent, and his eyes closed. This was the closest he could get to Eddie, who was a few feet under him. There was no coffin, but a box of everything that was precious to Eddie, and his ashes scattered on top of them. Cannot imagine living in this world any longer without you, my Eddie. Let the stars guide us back together, and hope the universe is not so cruel. We love you. Love you so much. Was the last thing the Symbiote uttered, exhaustedly, sadly, and wailed once more before settling down to rest, forever, with his love just below him. He let the cat slowly pass away, curled on the grave, and let himself go, on the grass, to sink below where his love's ashes were spread, to die with them like he should have before.
