There was nothing more Mithra wanted in the world than some peaceful rest.
With his injury from the Great Calamity in mind, he muttered his spell and opened a door in space to the Sage’s room. Despite the hour, they shouldn’t be asleep, should they? And even if they were, it wouldn’t be a problem to simply wake them up and make them help him.
He went through the door, but instead of seeing the Sage in their room, he was met with…
“Meow”
…two pairs of eyes staring right at him from the bed.
“Huh…” Mithra muttered to himself.
In front of him were two fluffy cats. One of them had fur that was the color of an almond and the other was orange mixed with white. The two-colored cat seemed more tense at the sight of the strange man than the other one. He wondered how they managed to get into the Sage’s room.
He looked around the room. It was empty, but the door was open. Maybe Akira left somewhere and forgot to close it?
“Ah, maybe you two know where the Sage went? I can’t understand you, though. Maybe I should drag Owen here and make him translate what you’re saying to me…”
“There’ll be no need for that.” A higher voice was heard from the door.
Mithra turned his head and saw none other than the Master Sage in their sleepwear. He felt a brief sense of relief, since dragging Owen here would be too much of a hassle for the sleep deprived wizard.
“I see that you’ve met Luna and Juno already. I’m surprised they didn't leave the room when I left them here by themselves.” They looked at the two furballs laying on their bed. The Sage walked towards the bed and Mithra could swear the cats’ eyes lit up a little. “We found these two on a mission in Central country and decided to bring them home. Aren’t they cute?”
“Sigh… I’m not here to look at the cats. I want you to put me to sleep.” The redhead didn’t want anything to do with weak little creatures like them. In fact, he considered them to be more of something Nero could cook for dinner instead of pets.
“Come on, now. At least say hi to them.” They sat on the bed and started petting the mixed cat. It rubbed its head against their palm. “This is Luna. She’s a little nervous around strangers, so why won’t you go and try bonding with Juno over there a little?”
“For what.”
Akira had to think it over for a second. There was only one way of making the stubborn and prideful wizards of the North cooperate. But as their Sage, they knew exactly what it was.
“Dunno. But the central wizards were the first to meet Luna and Juno and they didn’t seem to like Oz in the slightest… I thought that maybe they don’t like powerful wizards. But this won’t be the case if either of them grows to like you. How about you try petting them?” The tone of their voice was almost mocking and a slight smile did not leave their face for a moment. Trying to rile up the northern wizard was honestly not the hardest thing in the world.
Suddenly, Mithra’s expression changed and he looked more interested than before.
He took the bait.
“Is that so.”
In the next moment he was sitting next to them on the bed as he scratched the other cat’s chin with his long fingers. Juno seemed to enjoy that very much and kept purring louder the more Mithra spoiled him.
“Haha. It seems that it likes me. Did it really hate Oz? Befriending cats is really easy.” A smile stretched out across the green eyed wizard’s face enhancing his handsome features.
“He really does! Maybe you should try feeding them next time. They’ll love you even more.” Akira smiled at him. Something about the sight that was in front of them was so serene. They simply couldn’t help but want to see even more of Mithra and their newly adopted cats.
“Hmph. I already told you I was not here for the cats.”
He seized Juno and Luna by the back of their necks, one in each arm, and moved them over to the floor. Akira could tell the cats wanted to spend some time being caressed, but there was not much they could do when Mithra had already made up his mind.
“What are you-... Woahhhh!”
In the next second Mithra grabbed the Sage without any warning, and pulled them into an embrace as they both flopped onto the bed. They found themselves resting on top of him with their head in the crook of the redhead’s neck. He quickly found their hand and intertwined his fingers with Akira’s.
This situation was ridiculously embarrassing for the Sage, but Mithra seemed to be very casual about it. They were thankful to all the Gods in the sky, as well as the Great Calamity itself that he couldn’t see them furiously blushing in that moment.
“Yaaawn. Now don’t move so I can get some rest, will you?” His jade-colored eyes were already closed and Mithra felt like nothing could disturb him at this point.
“Y-yes…”
Despite their nervousness they nuzzled their face up against his neck and inhaled his scent. They felt so comfortable that way, and could tell Mithra felt the same.
Though not much of a request, Akira decided to make holding the red headed wizard’s hand the best they could their utmost goal. With that in mind they gripped his hand a little tighter, closed their eyes and let the sleepiness overtake them as their consciousness slowly drifted away to the land of dreams.
