Work Text:
“So you’ll be working the weekdays– 7 AM until about 5 PM. You can take the weekends off if you want, but if you decide to come back in to do extra paperwork we won’t complain,” your new manager– Alice – giggled, “just make sure to log in your hours. Try not to go over the 60 hour work week mark, though, alright?”
You nodded as you scanned over the paperwork once more, taking the time to double and triple check that the information wasn’t as sketchy as the whole situation seemed to be. Your hand tightened and then loosened on your cane handle at the thought. There’s nothing sketchy about the fact that they hired you. You’re capable of doing a good job and they clearly recognized that.
You could feel Alice’s gaze linger on your cane once you handed back the paperwork, but didn’t draw attention to it. She quickly took the packet from you and scanned it before drawing a pen from the filled cup holder on her desk. She signed, stamped, and then placed the packet into a folder that no doubt had your name on it.
A new employee of Fazbear Entertainment Inc..
“Nervous?” Alice asked with a tender tone, making you have to fight against a flinch.
“Nah. Should I be?” Her smile was plastered on so tightly that you almost worried it would create deep craters within her face. Alice stood up and walked around the desk to hand you your badge, a map, and a Fazbear-issued Fazwatch.
“Of course not! I just figured I’d check in– I know how first day jitters can be.”
You hummed in response as you stood, bracing yourself for the unsteadiness you knew would appear as soon as both legs were holding up your weight. You could feel Alice hover behind you, unsure as to whether it would be more appropriate to prepare to catch you or if she should stand back. Ultimately, to your relief, she simply stood in front of the open door to wait for you to adjust yourself.
Quickly– as quickly as you were able to, that is– Alice led you down to where you would be working. It was early enough that the PizzaPlex was just beginning to open up and families were wandering throughout the place. You figured that it would be better to strike up a conversation than to continue to walk in uncomfortable silence.
“So… how often am I going to be interacting with the kids?” Your words seemed to shatter whatever uncertainties Alice had had about speaking to you as she seemed to brighten up almost instantaneously.
“Oh, rarely if ever! The Daycare Attendants are very capable of handling the childcare wholly and completely. All we need from you is to sit at the desk and fill out reports, customer profiles, all that good stuff!” You briefly wondered if Alice was just naturally energetic or if she just liked hearing her own voice– you chose to keep quiet about this, though, and allowed her to continue her rambling as you thought about this job as the SuperStar Daycare’s glorified secretary.
Before we knew it, you both had reached the main floor of the daycare itself. Standing before you were two statues that stood back to back, both shining with a glittery gold similar to the Freddy Fazbear that was at the main entrance of the plex. The statues both seemed to be dressed the same but had very different expressions and their stances were opposite of one another. You had remembered reading about how the PizzaPlex– after it was rebuilt– made an effort to redesign the favorite daycare attendant, and you could tell that the rumors were true just based on these statues alone.
Their arms seemed to be hooked together now, unlike the pictures you had found online. The right one was stilled in a never-ending wave to oncoming children and had their right foot kicked up slightly in front of them. This one, you noted, also had a large amount of triangular rays around its head similar to that of–
“That one right there is Sun,” Alice piped up next to you, making you jump in surprise considering you had forgotten she was there at all. “He’s probably the one you’ll deal with the most. Moon only really comes out for naptime and story time, though he’ll occasionally offer to help Sun if he’s having a difficult time with the kiddos..”
You glanced at the left one who must have been the naptime attendant Alice had been referring to. He had his right arm in Sun’s left and seemed to be donning a nightcap rather than any rays. His right eye was closed and his left hand came up into a shushing motion to rest against the grin on his lips. You remember reading quite a bit about this one online, and had done a lot of consideration on whether to take the job or not specifically because of what was written.
“Is he…” you trailed off as Alice stopped moving to look back at you over her shoulder. “Is Moon… safe? To be around, I mean?” She instantly seemed to tense up at your question, similarly to how she had when you had asked her earlier about if you should be nervous about this job. Both times her responses failed to give you any reassurance about everything.
“Ah, well… of course! He had a bug right before the Plex burnt down, but we managed to get him patched up just fine! After all, if he weren’t safe to be around the employees we certainly wouldn’t have him around the kids,” She laughed as she waved her hand dismissively, almost as if your question was absolutely ridiculous.
The two of you rode one more elevator down before coming to the entrance of the daycare itself. Inside you could quietly hear the screams and laughter of small children and tried to calm your breathing. You had always felt nervous around children, even though you had countless people tell you before that you’re great with kids.
Alice stood in front of you and looked back at you finally with a genuine grin.
“Ready to meet them?”
“Ready as I’ll ever be,” you responded, though Alice hadn’t even waited for a response before pushing open the large wooden doors.
You were not expecting to see such a hot mess once you actually entered the SuperStar Daycare. Alice seemed just as flabbergasted as you when you both gazed upon the chaos that was the inside of the Daycare.
You quickly realized that the screams and laughter you had heard were not from the children, but from the Daycare Attendants themselves. All around the daycare there were scattered remains of crafts projects, as well as crumbled snacks and spilled juice pouches. In the center of the daycare was a mob of children who seemed to be cheering something on, and when you chanced a look at Alice’s face you were shocked to see how flushed her face had become. Without sparing a glance towards you she began to make her way into the daycare with the authoritarian stance you weren’t really expecting from someone as bubbly as her.
Very quickly the children began to step back as Alice walked forward and into the crowd of kids. You decided to follow after her at a safe distance, as the smacking of metal upon metal was not at all comforting to the hopefulness of you maintaining your safety. Soon the voices of the children became silent and the grunts and squeals of metal were all that echoed throughout the daycare. Alice stood there with a menacing glare as she waited for the animatronics to realize that the audience had dissipated and a new contender had entered the ring. You chanced a peek over Alice’s shoulder and had to stifle a snort at the sight in front of you both.
There on the floor, in a twisted pile of limbs and dented plating, were both the daycare attendant and the naptime attendant seemingly engaged in an all-out battle. The bright yellow animatronic– most likely Sun– had several bent sun-rays surrounding his faceplate and the blue animatronic– Moon, probably– had finger dents in his chest and shoulder plates. It looked like the two had been at it for several minutes and neither had distinguished a winner between the two… however, you had the feeling that the only winner in this situation was likely to be the children because boy, did Alice look upset.
Finally, the two animatronics froze in their actions as they tumbled into the shadow Alice had cast onto the floor. Sun was the first to move, as he quickly dropped the fist raised at Moon’s faceplate and shoved the blue man off of him and hopped up onto his feet. He took note of the sleeping cap within his right hand and hid it behind his back before giving your supervisor a bright smile. You watched as Moon growled before carefully standing up, moving to rip his hat back from his sunny counterpart before standing equally as stiff in front of Alice.
“What on earth is going on here?” Alice seethed, her words coming out clipped as she seemed to try to avoid raising her voice so as not to scare the children.
“Oh nothing, Miss Alice!” Sun began cheerfully before putting Moon in a headlock. “Just some friendly brotherly brawling! No harm done here!”
“No harm done?!” Moon ripped away from Sun furiously, glaring back at him. “You took my hat from me while I was in the middle of doing story time! You interrupted my time with the children!”
“Oh, please,” Sun responded, blowing a raspberry. How the hell did he do that?? You couldn’t help but wonder. “You were droning on and on… stories are supposed to be exciting and daring! You were boring the kids!”
“Enough.” Alice growled and turned to face Sun. “You need to be more mindful of the children and not start things in front of them. You’re dragging a reaction out of him and you know it! You’re teaching them bad manners,” Sun at least had the decency to look guilty, and Alice quickly turned to Moon before the smirk could begin to grow on his face, “And you! Self control! Don’t give him what he wants and ignore him if he’s going to goad you like that! Good grief you two are worse than children sometimes…”
Alice trailed off as she turned back to you and gestured over to the large desk that sat at the very front of the daycare. You followed her as she walked over there to sit in the chair behind it and felt the eyes of both animatronics follow you over there. Alice sat down with a huff and rubbed her eyes before moving to remove her glasses and pinch the bridge of her nose. Behind you, you could hear the sounds of the two attendants beginning to continue on with the work they were doing before the brawl began. You leaned against the desk, almost sitting on it as you gave Alice a moment to compose herself.
“Alright, look…” She grumbled and rubbed the back of her neck before glancing up at you. She moved to begin cleaning her glasses using her shirt, presumably to avoid making eye contact with you. “The truth is that I was hiring you to keep an eye on those two celestial knuckleheads. Ever since we separated them they’ve been at each other’s throats and I can’t afford to be down here all the time. I wasn’t lying about the paperwork bit, though– a lot of kids come through these doors day in and day out, and both them and their parents need to be cataloged.”
She took a breath and put her glasses back on before putting her hands together in a clap, using her two pointer fingers to point at the working animatronics in the room. You followed her gaze and watched as Sun hung upside down on the jungle gym, making several kids laugh and applaud him; Moon, meanwhile, had a small group of children in a cozy corner of the room where the lights were dimmed and they seemed to be listening intently as he told them a story.
“I need you to just… write reports on their behavior. You don’t need to do any more than that, I swear! I can handle managing everything else but… I just need someone to keep watch,” You turned back to look at her and blinked at the serious look on her face. “You sure you want this job?”
