Work Text:

This has been on Scaramouche’s mind for quite a while now.

He had imagined this moment countless times in his head by now, replaying it over and over, going over every possible way this could unfold.

How would he react, would it be awkward, would he embarrass himself? Would it be just straight up weird…How does he leave after that, would the boy of his dreams think that he’s just a stupid fool? Swear to god, he hoped not.

He.

The white haired boy with a soothing voice and an angelic face.

Kaedehara Kazuha.

Though he would rather die than let anyone know what he actually thought about him.

The thing is that Scaramouche was tough. Everyone either hated him or…Okay truth to be told, he wasn’t particularly liked. But people at least feared him and that was enough. It’s not like he did not have friends, he did have a few actually. Though they were all just as rebellious as him. That’s why nobody could know he liked Kaedehara Kazuha.

Kazuha on the other side was…An ideal definition of a perfect student. He didn’t stand out too much, though he always sat in the first row while in class, never missing any of them, always with perfect grades. Usually you could find him away from the crowd either writing something or reading a book. He was so kind and polite that it actually used to make Scaramouche’s stomach twist. And he was awfully obedient too.

He was annoying.

But then after time something in Scaramouche had shifted, and he noticed himself being more and more drawn to the boy. Sometimes quietly staring at him during classes, feeling his stomach tighten whenever he spoke or smiled. Finally, much to his horror, he realized that he found Kazuha cute in every possible way.

Like…the cute as hell kind of cute.

And that’s how his crush started.

Childe, his friend, found it silly, how much Kazuha stressed Scaramouche. He claimed that the boy never acted like this. He was even more unbearable than usually, especially when his crush was around. Suddenly it was like the whole world besides him didn't exist. But the blonde would never know, as he usually just admired him from afar.

It was better that way, at least for now. He was worried that Kazuha would find him weird if he just straight up came up to him and told him that he liked him. Why would he even? He didn’t do relationships. Not him. And definitely not with a guy like Kazuha.

Though this was their senior year and soon enough they would have part their ways. Different colleges, jobs...

This was the deciding factor that led Scaramouche here, up to the flower shop that Kazuha was working in. He wouldn’t forgive himself if he didn’t at least attempt to get closer to him. After all, it could be his last chance.

The colorful autumn leaves finally started filling the space all around, some of them shyly starting to fall off the trees. The season was approaching quickly, with each day getting colder and colder. Yet the temperature was still pleasant and most of the day’s weren’t rainy. It probably was just a matter of time until it all changed though.

The shop window was now basking in the warm afternoon sun, rays of it grazing the various plants and flowers inside.

It took Scaramouche awfully long to finally open the door, the melodic ring spreading across the whole space as he entered. He eyed everything carefully and dear god, there were so many plants he didn’t even know how they fitted in that place. Small glass decorations along with some vines were hanging from the ceiling and at the back, there was a small counter with flower vases placed on it. Though still, what caught his attention the most was obviously the boy among them, currently busy carrying some boxes, doing his best to quickly move them to their right place.

“Hello! How may I help you? I’m sorry it took so-” he finally spoke up once he moved the box he was holding and froze mid-sentence, slightly furrowing his brows once he realized just who exactly the customer was.

“Scaramouche?”

Fuck. Of course Kazuha knew who he was.

And why the fuck did his name had to sound so nice when spoken by him.

The boy looked especially beautiful in this particular scene, with his hair tied up in a loose bun, among all the greenery and with the warm sunlight hitting his silhouette. It made his hair seem almost white and deepened the crimson shade of his eyes even more.

“Yeah, and what?” Scaramouche quickly spat out, finding himself wanting to stare at Kazuha forever, yet at the same time too anxious to maintain eye contact for too long.

“I just…Didn’t expect to see you there.” Kazuha smiled gently as he quickly fixed the pale pink apron with a flower pattern that he was wearing and Scaramouche noticed a small pin with the boy’s name on it.

“Is that a problem? Can’t I go to a flower shop?”

Before he left, Childe had told him to be nice, but it was just so hard for Scaramouche, he just couldn’t stop himself from snapping back responses like this. Besides…The faint, unexpected blush that suddenly crept on Kazuha’s pale face was for sure worth it.

“No! I-” The blonde’s cheeks only got more and more red as he tried to explain himself.

“I need a bouquet. A pretty one.” Scaramouche tried to be as casual as he could about it, but truth to be told, he never really bought flowers. And it felt pretty awkward, especially asking Kazuha about it, but it had to be done. The boy was right though, he wasn’t really the type to visit places like this.

“Sure!” The blonde quickly proceeded and Scaramouche was thankful that he didn’t make any more comments on why exactly is he even getting flowers in the first place. Of course he wouldn’t… It was Kazuha after all, just as kind and sweet as ever. “Do you have any specific requests about the flowers, colors-”

He did not. Well...Flowers weren’t exactly his thing. But he already had made up a perfect plan in his mind.

“Just recommend me something and make it pretty. That’s all.”

“Alright I-” The blonde boy quickly got to work as he stepped out of the counter and into the shop, passing by Scaramouche and coming up to the various colorful flowers that laid on the shelves and the floor.

The dark haired boy quietly observed as Kazuha got to work. How his long white hair fell out of his bun and laid loosely on his back, the way his apron ribbons were tied in a big bow around his tiny waist. Overall, he just now realized how small the boy actually was.

“What do you think about those?” Kazuha interrupted his thoughts as he lifted up a white freesia flower.

It’s not like the dark haired boy knew anything about flowers, so he just eyed it up quickly. He supposed it was good enough. White and pretty simple.

“It should do.” He muttered.

Truth to be told, Scaramouche couldn’t help but let his gaze linger on Kazuha’s body more instead of the flowers. He found himself wondering how it would be like to hold that lithe waist, to run his hands over his sides and down to the- Okay. It wasn’t the time to think about this kind of stuff. Though it was hard not to do so, when Kazuha was now bent to pick up something from the floor right in front of him. It made Scaramouche’s cheeks burn hot again as he noticed how Kazuha’s jeans hugged his body tight in just the right places.

Soon enough, the boy turned back to face Scaramouche, with some pink, white and red flowers in his hands. He wasn’t really sure if his picks are going to fit his liking, neither did he know for who exactly the flowers were. But he decided to try his best, picking a few ones and then swapping them for other if needed. He eyed the dark haired boy and smiled hesitantly and unsure as he proceeded back to the counter, where he laid the flowers down and started to arrange them.

“Do you like them?” Scaramouche asked as he carefully watched how Kazuha positioned the flowers.

“Pardon?” The blonde looked up at him and blinked a few times.

“Do you like them or not?”

“I- It’s about you and if you-”

“Shut up. You like them or not?!”

“Yeah I do but-”

“Great. Keep going.”

Awkward silence fell between them and Scaramouche only quietly observed Kazuha’s swift, gentle hands. He seemed very good at it, the way he twisted the little ribbons around the stem and how he carefully tied them up. And he loved the way his bangs fell over his eyes, and how Kazuha would swiftly brush it back behind his ear. Scaramouche wished it could be him doing this instead.

“Any more decorations?” The blonde asked as he kept on arranging the flowers.

“I don’t know. What do you think, Kazuha?”

It was the first time he had addressed him by his name and he could swear he saw the boy’s cheeks turn a tiny bit more red at that action.

“I mean- It depends…” the boy sighed and looked up at Scaramouche, looking a bit defeated.

“Depends on what?”

“Some people like it, some people don’t, I’m not sure if the person you’re giving this to does-” he tried to continue, but Scaramouche interrupted him mid sentence.

“And how about you?”

“I guess I prefer it simple…Then you can fully admire the beauty of the flowers.” Kazuha shrugged a bit and smiled ever so slightly.

“Keep it simple then.”

With that, Kazuha just nodded slightly and continued his work. All that was left was a few finishing touches and the bouquet would be done.

He added a few more simple leaves, tied it all up with a thin burlap ribbon and then sprayed all the plants to add more shine.

“Is there anything else you’d need?”

“No, I’m good. Thanks though.” Scaramouche muttered as he kept his hands in the pockets of his washed out jean jacket. He was getting more and more nervous, though of course, he tried his best to try to look collected and unbothered.

The bouquet that Kazuha did was undeniably pretty. All the colors went really well together, it was mostly white and pink flowers, with red accents here and there, interlaced with beige ribbons and a lot of green leafy decorations.

And it suited him, now that he was holding it in his hands close to his chest with one hand, typing something on the cash register with the other.

“Alright then.” Kazuha’s rosy lips curled in a small smile as he started speaking. Honestly, Scaramouche could come here every day just to witness that. His customers were so lucky.

“Here is your total.” The blonde gestured at the price that the cash register had shown. “Cash or card?”

“Card.”

The boy nodded once again and passed the pos terminal to Scaramouche who held out his phone and paid the right amount.

“All good, thank you Scara!” Kazuha smiled, this time a bit wider though just when he was about to had the bouquet over to Scaramouche he had stopped him.

“Take it.” The dark haired boy finally muttered under his breath, his cheeks blushing a possibly deepest shade of red and his heart beating so fast as if it was about to jump out of his chest, his gaze now lingering just about everywhere but Kazuha’s face.

“What? But you-”

“Oh god.” Scaramouche frowned and pinched his nose in annoyance but also in a miserable attempt to hide his flushed face. Why was Kazuha like this? He just wanted to get out of there as fast as possible and sink under the ground out of embarrassment. “Are you deaf idiot?! It’s for you. Take it.”

When he finally got the courage to look up at Kazuha, he was met with the most beautiful reward. The puzzled, blushed look on his pretty face was honestly so precious and adorable, something to die for.

It was worth everything to see him like this.

And he wanted to kiss him so badly right now, to tell him how much he likes him. There was just something so mesmerizing about Kazuha, maybe it was the way he smiled, the way he talked, how gentle, calm and sweet he was…It was so not like Scaramouche, but maybe that’s why. Maybe he just for once needed some stillness and softness in his life.

And he really did fall for him. Head over heels.

“I-”

“See you at school then.” Scaramouche quickly spat out before Kazuha even got a chance to say anything, turned around and left quickly, leaving the blonde boy a blushing mess and with flowers.

He too, was a blushing mess. Though maybe, it was a start of something new.
