I wasn't expecting you

Summary:

Padmé took a deep breath and concentrated on not ruining her extremely fragile cover. She hadn't exactly planned to end up here, in the arms of an unknown woman with enchanting eyes and an attractive scent, but here she was, facing this pretty Chalactan with elegant, strict features whose laughing eyes betrayed a perpetual peaceful joy.

Padmé didn't know that this kind of person could interest her, but now she was definitely convinced and would not change her mind. She had done well to break up with Rush, there were so many people in this world, she wanted to live out her passions, however fleeting.

Notes:

To be honest, I have dozens of projects in the works and even more drafts, and yet this story just came from nowhere into my head when I thought of this series and thought, "Well, who else could I pair Padmé with? And what trope to use?" and this was on its way, nagging me to get it written and finished as soon as possible, so I did.

Work Text:

Padmé took a deep breath and concentrated on not ruining her extremely fragile cover. She hadn't exactly planned to end up here, in the arms of an unknown woman with enchanting eyes and an attractive scent, but here she was, facing this pretty Chalactan with elegant, strict features whose laughing eyes betrayed a perpetual peaceful joy.

Padmé didn't know that this kind of person could interest her, but now she was definitely convinced and would not change her mind. She had done well to break up with Rush, there were so many people in this world, she wanted to live out her passions, however fleeting.

She might have almost mortally offended a diplomat everyone knew to be a Hutt emissary at the reception Senator Organa had hosted to discuss a bill, and Padmé might have accidentally been offensive. It wasn't planned, and she didn't want to ruin the mood, so she'd slipped away to ward off the developing argument... she hadn't expected him to be so vehement. Really, he was shouting loudly and half of the shouting was insults, the rest was just not very worrying threats. Well... to most people that would be worrying, but to Padmé it was nothing.

The problem was that there weren't that many corners to hide in, and the one Padmé was interested in was already occupied when she tried to enter the dark corner. She backed away abruptly with a vague apology and worriedly checked that her outraged pursuer was not close by when, just as she was leaving, the figure inside grabbed her wrist and pulled her against her, cradling her against her chest in a definitely sensual and explicit embrace, her hands low on her waist.

The woman had caught her in a tight embrace, wrapping her long dark cloak around the Senator and bending her face into Padme's hair.

"He's coming, lean over me to hide your face."

Immediately understanding the plan - not what she'd imagined, but far better than anything she could have created - Padmé leaned forward and threw her arms around her rescuer's neck, with whom she exchanged a bright, wry smile as footsteps sounded behind them without stopping.

The footsteps quickly faded and the woman stepped back slightly before pursing her lips.

"He's coming back," warned her rescuer. "Don't move until he passes."

Padmé nodded quietly before worrying that the Representative had seen them and decided to check out the scene he was witnessing. Word of her breakup with Rush had not yet spread, so he would check if he had any doubts about their relationship.

"Can I kiss you?" Padmé asked shyly, unsure of the stranger's reaction. "People looked away more easily at scenes of couples' affection, he shouldn't look too closely."

The very pretty Chalactan widened her eyes before smiling gently at him.

"Of course, it would be an honour."

Padmé felt herself blush with embarrassment: her status often earned her distinction, but she never thought it would lead to near sexual assault.

"Oh please, don't do it for that. Forget about it."

"I meant it would be very nice for me to kiss such a beautiful woman," the Chalactan clarified, lifting her face with a finger under her chin. "You are an eye-catcher, and not just for your hair."

The wink and the happy, mischievous smile made Padmé giggle, her eyes following her saviour's braided hair again.

"I would never contradict such an expert."

"I hope so," the other replied with an arrogant movement tempered by the deliberately excessive and theatrical air. "I am Depa."

"Padmé," she replied immediately, "thank you so much for your help. "I would have been hard pressed to escape him discreetly."

"It's only natural, you're much more pleasant to be around than he is, if he didn't want to be criticized for his many extramarital affairs, perhaps he should have left your private life... well, private."

"Especially since I'm not in a relationship anymore, with Rush," Padmé clarified, making it clear that there was no adultery or betrayal of trust on her part.

The woman - whom Padmé belatedly identified as a 'Jedi' - looked at her with an appreciative look that made her glad she had made her point.

"That's good to know," Depa almost purred, leaning into her as the footsteps drew nearer again.

This time Padmé placed her hands on Depa's waist and her hands rested on her face.

"Are you sure?" Depa checked.

"Absolutely."

It was still a strange sensation, kissing on the mouth, Padmé was still not quite comfortable and assured in the way she was practising it, but Depa remained gentle and shallow in her support, letting Padmé manage the pressure and the movements, and it was the Senator who hesitantly caressed her lips with her tongue, curious if the sensation would be so electrifying.

It was.
