Sick

Fade in:

Ext. Bygone Island: Hedgehog Village - DAY

Tails, Amy, Sticks, and Knuckles are seen walking into town. Tails and Knuckles are holding yellow tickets with boyish grins on their faces.

TAILS: “Are you ready to see the exclusive premiere of Space Whales Two?!”

KNUCKLES: “Heck yeah, I’m ready! The first movie was so good! Hopefully they don’t ruin this one with dumb pop-culture references in an attempt to reach out to the younger generation.”

TAILS: “Yeah. Space Whales One was such a spectacle film of its time! It’s going to be hard to top it off.”

STICKS: “Are you kiddin’ me? Space Whales was garbage! And that’s coming from someone who enjoys a good dumpster dive.”

AMY: “I agree. The concept alone is ridiculous. I mean, nothing even makes sense! Whales can’t breathe in space.”

TAILS: “Well of course normal whales can’t! But whales super-charged by radioactive space rocks can, duh.”

Sticks and Amy rolled their eyes.

KNUCKLES: “Where is Sonic? He’s going to make us late for the previews!”
He said, looking down at an imaginary watch.

Sonic zoomed up to the group. His quills were a bit shaggier than usual and his muzzle was tinged red.

SONIC: “I’m h-here.”
He said, stifling a sneeze.

KNUCKLES: “What happened to you? You look awful.”
He commented insensitively on Sonic’s sickly face.

SONIC: “I-I’m -ACHOO!- (sniffle) fine. Just allergies.”
He said, rubbing his nose.

TAILS: “That’s weird. You’ve never shown allergy symptoms before. The pollen count isn’t even that high this time of year.”

SONIC: “Whatever.”
He said dismissively.
SONIC: “Let’s get going, we’re going to be -ACHOO!- late for the movie.”

He snatched his ticket from Tails and turned to the theater only to be stopped by Amy. He flinched back when she reached up to place the back of her hand on his forehead.

AMY: “Sonic, your burning up!”
She said sympathetically.

SONIC: “I already told you, I’m fine. Let’s go guys.”
He said, walking around her.

Amy was quick to grab his arm.

AMY: “Oh no you don’t! You’re sick!”

SONIC: “I’m not -ACHOO!- s-sick.”
He sniffled again.

AMY: “Yes you are. Look at you! You are in no condition to see that movie! Let alone be around other people.”

Sonic crossed his arms and grumbled.

TAILS: “She’s got a point. Maybe you should sit this one out…”

SONIC: “No way Amy!”
He burst out suddenly.
SONIC: “I’ve been waiting 9 months for this movie to come out! I am going to see the premiere of Space Whales Two and there is nothing you can do to stop me!”

Tails and Knuckles exchanged a wide-eyed glance.

Amy looked at him with her hands on her hips and raised a brow.

Int. Amy’s House - DAY

Sonic sat on Amy’s couch with a purple blanket over his shoulders. A light blue ice pack sat on his head. He sat at the edge of his seat, both his hands propped up on his knees to support his head. Sonic looked on with a face of bitter defeat.

Amy came around and stuck a thermometer in his mouth.

AMY: “There. Isn’t that better?”

SONIC: “No.”
He said with a groan.

Amy took the thermometer out of his mouth.

AMY: “102. Yep, just as I thought. You have a fever. And to think you INSISTED on going to see that movie.”

SONIC: “But it was the EXCLUSIVE premiere!!!”
He whined.

SONIC: “Never before seen footage from behind the scenes was going to be shown! Now I’m going to miss it because I’m stuck here with-”
He stopped himself when he saw Amy’s cross expression.
SONIC: “Youuu-r caring and considerate self?”
He said with a sweat drop.

AMY: “Nice save.”
She said flatly.
AMY: “Try to look on the bright side. At least now you can get some much-needed rest.”
She said walking to the kitchen.

Sonic fell back dramatically on the couch and let out a long groan.

AMY: “Fine. If you’re going to be that way, then I guess you don’t want any soup.”

Sonic’s ears perked up.

SONIC: “Soup?”

AMY: “Mm-hmm. Warm, comforting, delicious, chicken noodle soup~”
She said from the kitchen.

Sonic’s mouth watered with every descriptive word.

AMY: “Oh well.”
She faked a wistful sigh.
AMY: “Maybe someone else will appreciate my cooking.”

Suddenly there was a heavy thud on the floor followed by a groan from Sonic. Amy rushed back into the living room to see Sonic face-planted on the floor.

AMY: “What happened?”

Sonic slowly rolled over on his back, clutching his stomach.

SONIC: “Ugh- My stomach.”
He said, looking nauseous.

AMY: “What’s wrong? Are you in pain?”

SONIC: “YES!”

AMY: “Is there anything I can do? Maybe get you a glass of water? A trash can?”
She said, looking unsure.

She knelt down beside him and placed a caring hand on his chest, in an effort to comfort him.

Sonic looked up at her with his eyes half-open. He let out a weak cough before he spoke in a voice just above a whisper.

SONIC: “I need… soup…”

Amy punched his shoulder.

AMY: “Sonic! Of all the unbelievable-”
She trailed off as she got up and walked back to the kitchen.

Sonic snickered to himself in mischief.

AMY: “Fine, you drama queen! I’ll make you some soup.”
She called from the kitchen.

Sonic fist pumped a “yes” to himself.

Int. Amy’s House - DAY

Amy walked into the living room with a big bowl of homemade chicken noodle soup.

AMY: “Here you are!”
She said, placing the bowl on the coffee table in front of him.

Sonic licked his lips, the warm smell of the broth clearing his sinuses. His belly growled. He immediately seized the bowl and proceeded to gobble up the soup.

AMY: “You’re welcome.”
She hummed.
AMY: “Now it’s time to take your medicine.”
She said as she pulled out a medicine bottle.

Sonic paused mid-bowl-to-face. He set the bowl down and wiped the soup mustache off his upper lip. He gave her a look of disgust as she poured the black goopy substance into a spoon.

SONIC: “I’m not taking that.”
He said flatly.

AMY: “Oh common, it’s not that bad. It will be really quick.”

She pushed the spoon up to his face only to have him recoil back, holding his mouth shut.

SONIC: “Nuh-uh.”
He quickly shook his head.

AMY: “Sonic, it’s only a spoon full. Just take it!”
She pushed the spoon closer to his face.

SONIC: “No.”
He said, moving his face to the side.

AMY: “It will help you get better!”

SONIC: “No!”

AMY: “Sonic, honestly! Quit acting like a child!”

SONIC: “NO!”

AMY: “For the love of- Just take your medicine!”
She said, growing impatient.

SONIC: “No! I won’t take it!”
He crossed his arms and stuck out his tongue.

Amy gave him a look that said “don’t test me.” Sonic only glanced at her for a second before giving in.

SONIC: “Ugh. Fine…”

Amy immediately perked up and held the spoon to his mouth. Sonic looked at it in disgust before closing his eyes, taking the foul liquid, and swallowing it down. He instantly gagged and stuck his tongue out.

AMY: “There. Now was that so hard?”

SONIC: “Ugh. I can’t feel the roof of my mouth.”
He made a sour face.

AMY: “Well, that should do the trick. You’ll be better in no time! This stuff works like a charm.”
She said, closing the cap on the medicine bottle.

SONIC: “Huh. Really.”
He said distastefully.

AMY: “Mm-hmm. Oh, and you should expect to feel drowsy. You also might feel a bit dizzy and loopy. Don’t worry, that just means it’s working.”
She informed him.

Sonic’s look shifted.

SONIC: “Oh wow. That stuff works fast!”
He said with a yawn.

He stretched out tiredly then rubbed his watery eyes. Suddenly he started laughing. Amy giggled at his behavior.

AMY: “What’s so funny?”

Sonic giggled goofily.

SONIC: “You.”

AMY: “Me?”
She said amusingly.
AMY: “Must be the medicine kicking in.”
She smirked.

SONIC: “Yeah. You look funny.”
He snickered.

AMY: “What?”
She said, sounding slightly offended.

SONIC: “No… that’s not right.”
He said, looking like he was thinking hard.
SONIC: “You look… pretty~”
He said with his eyes lowered, looking as if he were in a trance.

A red blush rushed to Amy’s cheeks.

AMY: “R-really huh?”

SONIC: “Yeah.”
He hummed as he leaned uncomfortably close.
SONIC: “Your eyes are sparkly~”

AMY: “OKAY. You need to get some sleep.”
She said pushing his chest back and turning away, her face burning red.

Sonic fell back onto the couch and instantaneously began to snore. Amy looked at him with a smile as she covered him with a blanket. She laughed to herself. He still had that goofy smile on his face.

Int. Amy’s House - THE NEXT MORNING

Sonic is seen in a strange sleeping position on the couch. His nose twitched before his head rose up to sniff the air. He smacked his lips before drowsily opening his eyes. He stood up, stretched his arms out, and yawned before staggering forward, following his nose.

Amy was in the kitchen making breakfast, softly humming to a tune in her head as she flipped flapjacks.

SONIC: “Mmm~ Something smells good!”
He said half-awake.

AMY: “Oh! Sonic, you’re up.”
She turned and smiled.

SONIC: “Yup. Man, what a nap! I feel great!”
He stretched out and yawn again.

AMY: “More like slumber! You were asleep for 18 hours! I was beginning to worry you’d never get up.”

SONIC: “I probably wouldn’t have if you didn’t wake up my stomach! I don’t even remember falling asleep yesterday.”
He said, taking a seat at the table.

AMY: “Really?”

SONIC: “Yeah. The last thing I remember was…”
He thought for a moment.
SONIC: “Ugh. That medicine. I can still taste it.”
He said, smacking his mouth at the aftertaste.

AMY: “Alright, alright. I get it.”
She said, placing a plate of piping hot pancakes in front of him.

Sonic drooled, beholding its sweet buttery glory.

AMY: “So… you really don’t remember anything after that?”
She asked nervously.

Sonic thought for a moment.

SONIC: “Nope. Don’t think so.”
He said with a mouthful of pancake.
SONIC: “Why?”
He swallowed.

AMY: “Well… you were talking in your sleep.”
She said, avoiding the true subject of her inquiry.

Sonic gulped another mouthful of pancakes, his look shifting to concern.

SONIC: “What did I say?”

AMY: “Umm… it was a bit hard to make out, but it was something along the lines of… stop right there Eggface! The jig is up!”
She said in her best Sonic impression.

Sonic laughed.

SONIC: “I do not sound like that.”

Amy continued to mock him.

AMY: “Catcha later Egg-face! Sonic’s back baby! Gotta go fast!”

SONIC: “Alright, I get it.”

Amy laughed.

AMY: “Don’t worry. It was cute~”
She paused abruptly, realizing what she just said, and attempted to move on from the comment as quickly as possible.
AMY: “Oh! Uh- Tails and Knuckles stopped by the other day. They said that there was such a great showing at the theater yesterday, that they decided to do a second premiere of the movie! But you better hurry. I think they said it started at 11.”

SONIC: “Oh wow, really?! That’s awesome!”

He quickly gulped down the rest of his flapjacks before rushing to the door. He stopped when he turned to see Amy washing dishes. Sonic hesitated before closing the door.

SONIC: “You know what? Space Whales Two can wait.”

Amy turned to see that Sonic was still inside. She smiled, knowing exactly what he meant.

They spent the rest of that day eating snacks and watching old VHS tapes at Amy’s house.

Fade out:

Notes:

I know the whole “character gets sick” premise is a bit cliché, but here’s my take on it! We get some Sonamy out of it, so I’m not complaining ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I really like the way I decided to end this one UwU
Where at first Amy forced Sonic to miss the movie, it’s nice to see Sonic voluntarily miss the movie just to spend some time with Amy. Sonic might not admit it, but he enjoys Amy’s company <3
