An Old Shack's Makeover
Fade in:
Int. Sonic’s Shack - MORNING
We tune into the residence of Sonic T. Hedgehog. Sonic is fast asleep in his hammock. Birds are tweeting to the melody of Morning Mood in the background. Sonic shifts before sitting up. He stretches out a yawn and drowsily gets out of his hammock.
He lazily makes his way to the door. There is a record scratch and the birds cease their singing when he is met with a familiar pink hedgehog leaning at his doorway.
SONIC: “AH!”
He snapped back, wide-eyed, then cleared his throat.
SONIC: “H-heyyy Amy. What’s up? Heh-”
He forced a smile as a sweat drop slid down the side of his face.
AMY: “Hey Sonic! So… remember that- thing you promised me?”
She said innocently with her hands behind her back.
SONIC: “No.”
He said sternly.
AMY: “Sonic! You can’t go back on your word!”
She said with a hand on her hip.
SONIC: “Sheesh. I’m going to have to be honest with ya Ames. I can’t leave my shack today. Yeah, I mean, there is just so much to do around here and would you look at the time?!”
He briefly looked down at his communicator before spinning her around and proceeding to push her out of his shack.
SONIC: “I am really, really busy today. Here. At my shack. Again, so sorry to have to inconvenience you. Maybe some other time, or never. Okay? Okay. Bye-bye now.”
AMY: “Hold it buster!”
She objected, turning around.
AMY: “That’s exactly what you said yesterday.”
She met him with an accusing look.
SONIC: “Busy couple of days?”
He said innocently with a shrug.
AMY: “And last week you said there were raccoons nesting under the floorboards.”
She narrowed her eyes at him.
SONIC: “Yeah, still not sure if they are all gone yet. Better give it a couple more weeks, just to be safe.”
He laughed nervously.
AMY: “Sonic, enough with the excuses.”
SONIC: “I don’t have a choice, do I?”
He said with a groan.
AMY: “Nope!”
She said cheerfully.
She skipped past him with a caddy of cleaning supplies and a couple of buckets of paint.
SONIC: “Hey, I thought I said no painting!”
He objected.
AMY: “I like to think of that as more of a- suggestion.”
She said, kneeling down and sifting through her things.
SONIC: “And are those cleaning supplies? I thought I said no cleaning!”
AMY: “Come on Sonic, be realistic. You can’t expect me not to clean up this dump!”
SONIC: “Ahem.”
He crossed his arms and gave her an offended look.
Amy just rolled her eyes.
AMY: “What I meant to say was- this place needs some sprucing up! A nice makeover.”
She rephrased enthusiastically.
AMY: The sooner we get this place up to code, the better. It’s practically falling apart!”
She exclaimed.
Just then, one of the support beams fell from the roof and crashed through the floorboards. After the rubble cleared, Sticks the Badger popped up from the gaping hole in Sonic’s floor.
STICKS: Hiss!
She bared her teeth at them then scurried off.
Sonic and Amy blinked at what they just witnessed.
SONIC: “Did I say raccoons? I meant feral badger.”
Amy gave him an unamused look.
AMY: “No matter.”
She said, dusting debris off her dress.
AMY: “I better get to work. These rafters aren’t going to repair themselves.”
SONIC: “But-”
AMY: “No buts! Just go enjoy your day! Trust me, you won’t regret this.”
She said, pushing him out the door in the same fashion he had done to her moments ago.
SONIC: “Too late, I already am.”
Amy rolled her eyes once more and turned back inside.
SONIC: “And my coconut husk collection is off-limits!”

Int. Tails’ Workshop - DAY
While Tails tinkers with his plane and Knuckles watches TV, Sonic is seen walking back and forth across the workshop.
TAILS: “What’s up with you?”
He said, looking up from his work.
SONIC: “Nothing. What makes you say that.”
He said, still pacing with his head down.
TAILS: “Well, for starters, you’re not bothering me about what I’m doing. Second, you're not goofing off with Knuckles and furthermore, your extensive pacing is ruining my floor.”
Sonic looked down to see marks on Tails' wooden floor.
TAILS: “It’s clear there’s something on your mind. What’s up?”
Sonic let out a sigh.
SONIC: “It’s Amy…”
KNUCKLES: “Oh, I see. Trouble in paradise?~”
He said, batting his eyes.
SONIC: “No! She’s redecorating my shack, Knucklehead!”
He snapped back.
KNUCKLES: “Oh. Well, if that’s the case then she better not touch your coconut husk collection. We all know how sensitive you are when it comes to that.”
SONIC: “It’s for MEMORIES!”
TAILS: “You mean to tell me she’s finally getting around to that? How long ago did you make that promise again?”
KNUCKLES: “Season 1 Episode 6, if I recall correctly.”
SONIC: “I may have- held it off a bit…”
He said, scratching the back of his head.
SONIC: “Technically I never said promise so-”
TAILS: “Still, you shouldn’t go back on your word. It’s about time that shack got some attention.”
He said, resuming his work.
SONIC: “Hey! I happen to like my shack just the way it is, thank you very much.”
KNUCKLES: “Dude, that place has like 7 house code violations.”
TAILS: “Anyway, what’s the big deal if Amy redecorates it?”
SONIC: “Because it’s Amy!”
KNUCKLES: “And?”
SONIC: “And- you know how she is.”
TAILS: “What are you so worried about? It’s not like she’s going to go crazy overboard with this project."
Sonic raised a doubtful brow.
TAILS: “Okay… I can see where some concern may be within reason- but it’s not like she’s going to tear the whole thing down and rebuild it.”

Int. Sonic’s Shack - DAY
The scene cuts to Amy looking at a wall in Sonic’s shack.
AMY: “Huh… This wall right here is just too confining… Guess there’s only one thing to do!”
She said, slinging her hammer over her shoulder.

Int. Tails’ Workshop - DAY
We cut back to Tails.
TAILS: “Besides, Amy knows all there is to know about design and color.”
SONIC: “But I don’t want a shack that’s all girly and- pink!”
He exclaimed.
KNUCKLES: “Not cool Sonic.”
He shook his head.
TAILS: “You know what you need?”
He said, turning away from his work.
TAILS: “You need to get your mind off of this. If you dwell on the thought any longer, you’ll go and do something stupid.”
KNUCKLES: “Yeah. That’s why I avoid thinking at all.”
TAILS: “How about we head into town and hang out? It will be like a bro day!”
He suggested.
KNUCKLES: “Yeah! I’m in!”
SONIC: “You know what? Anything to get my mind off this.”
*Cue SUPER-AWSOME BRO HANGOUT DAY montage.*
Ext. Hedgehog Village: Town - DAY
While hanging out in town, Tails quickly realizes that Sonic keeps getting distracted. Long story short, Amy ended up contacting Tails; asking him to stall Sonic. Tails and Knuckles do everything in their power to keep him preoccupied, but eventually Sonic had enough.
SONIC: “That’s it! I can’t take it anymore! I have to stop her!”
He burst out, speeding off.
TAILS: “Sonic, wait!”
He yelled after him.
KNUCKLES: “Aw man. Who’s going to sing karaoke with us now?”
Tails and Knuckles are standing on a stage with microphones in hand. They nervously glance down at the crowd of people below. Some guy’s cough breaks the silence.
TAILS: “Who’s idea was this again?”
He whispered nervously.
KNUCKLES: “Don’t look at me.”
He said with a shrug.

Ext. Hedgehog Village - DAY
Sonic is seen running in the direction of his shack when all of a sudden, a laser directed at his foot stops him in his tracks.
EGGMAN: “Not so fast, you overgrown rodent!”
SONIC: “What gives Egghead?!”
He said impatiently.
EGGMAN: “Thought you could keep me out of the last story and get away with it? Well, you’ve got another thing coming! Robots, ATTACK!!!”
A swarm of Bee Bots and Motobugs instantly surround him.
SONIC: “What the heck is that supposed to mean?!”
Sonic blazed through the horde of badniks and reduced them to nothing more than scraps of metal.
SONIC: “Looks like we’re going to have to make this a quick one, Eggy.”
He goes in for a homing attack on the Egg Mobile but is hit by the mechanical arm of Mega Bot. Sonic ricochets off to the side where he lands in frustration.

Int. Sonic’s Shack - DAY
Amy is seen wearing a cleaning apron, her pink quills dotted with splattered paint. She lets out a huff before brushing her frilled bangs to the side. Suddenly, her communicator goes off. Tails’ voice is heard over the static.
TAILS: “Amy! Sonic is on his way to the shack!”
KNUCKLES: “Yeah, and don’t bother asking how his day went.”
AMY: “Got it. I’m almost finished here, but I need you guys to buy me some more time.”
TAILS: “We’re on it.”

Ext. Hedgehog Village - DAY
SONIC: “Don’t you have anything better to do?!”
EGGMAN: “Just trying to make up for lost screen time, not that you’d even know what that feels like Mr. Protagonist!”
Eggman had Mega Bot advance on the blue hedgehog full-force. Sonic, enraged, finished him off with one final blow.
Sonic immediately swerved around and knocked Eggman and his Egg Mobile into the sky.
EGGMAN: “I’ll show you! I’m just as essential to the plot as you are!”
He shouted in the distance.
Sonic was about to dash off but the sound of Tails and Knuckles calling after him stops him in his tracks.
TAILS: “Sonic! Wait!”
KNUCKLES: “Yeah! We need to distract you!”
Sonic let out a groan.
SONIC: “What?!”
Tails and Knuckles soon arrived up to him, huffing and puffing.
TAILS: “Umm… Well, you see- Uh… We almost forgot to-”
KNUCKLES: “Got to Meh-Burger.”
He proposed, raising his index finger.
TAILS: “Yeah! Wouldn’t want to end our day on an empty stomach?”
SONIC: “Yeah, I’ll pass.”
He said before speeding off.
TAILS: “W-wait! What about chili dogs!”
He called out after him.

Ext. Sonic’s Shack - EVENING
Sonic arrived at his shack only to find it obscured by a tall curtain. Tails and Knuckles caught up to him, breathing heavily.
KNUCKLES: “Whoa… where did your shack go?”
TAILS: “It’s behind that… giant reveal curtain.”
Amy appeared from behind the curtain and greeted everyone.
AMY: “Not a moment too soon boys! Great work.”
SONIC: “Wait a second… this entire day was a set up to keep me distracted while she redecorated my shack?!”
He said, turning to Tails.
TAILS: “Well, yeah. I thought we made that clear.”
SONIC: “But I didn’t know you teamed up with her! Was that weird Eggman attack a set up too?”
KNUCKLES: “Nah, that was just plain weird.”
AMY: “Well, no matter how we schemingly plotted this distraction. It’s time for you to see your new and improved shack!”
SONIC: “Oh no. What are you doing?”
Amy pulled his scarf up to his eyes like a blindfold.
AMY: “It’s a surprise!”
She said enthusiastically.
Amy guided Sonic past the curtain and up the steps to his shack. Tails and Knuckles followed close behind.
AMY: “Okay… now!”
Sonic slowly pulled down his scarf and hesitantly opened his eyes.
The shack was clean and free of dust, even the wood looked brand new. The beams on the roof were replaced. The room was refurnished with a new couch, a coffee table, and a new carpet. Over-all, the shack looked the same, just with some added character.
Sonic looked around in shock.
AMY: “Now, before you say anything, I want to explain my thought process in all of this.”
She pulled his arm and led him to one of the walls.
AMY: “I went ahead and gave the walls and floor a new wood stain, freshening up the room while not taking away from the thing you had going on in here before. I reinforced the beams on your roof. Oh! And your coconut husk collection, I realized wasn’t even properly displayed! So I installed a shelf for it. Don’t worry, I didn’t touch any of the coconuts. You can move those in there yourself if you want.”
She then directed him to the furniture.
AMY: “I purchased a couch for you so people can have somewhere to sit while visiting…”
She said that part with slight annoyance.
AMY: “And I replaced the old dingy carpet that surrounded the mast with a brand new one. Oh! I also crafted you a coffee table out of an old surfboard you discarded. I went ahead and put table decorations and trinkets you had no other place of putting. And… yeah. I think that’s everything.”
She turned to him expectantly.
Sonic just stood there, dumbfounded, looking at all the changes she has made. He walked over to the coffee table and picked up a framed picture. It was a group picture of the five friends.
AMY: “You didn’t have that picture framed, so I put it in one for you.”
Sonic looked at it for a moment.
SONIC: “How… how could you possibly…”
He was at a loss of words.
SONIC: “How did you know to do this?”
He said in disbelief.
Amy smiled and rubbed her arm.
AMY: “Well… actually, I would have liked to do a lot more. Like add curtains and a door, but… I couldn’t bring myself to do it. I knew that if I went about this my way, you wouldn’t like it. Then, all of my work would have been for nothing.”
She said with a shrug.
AMY: “So… what do you think?”
Sonic rubbed his neck. He had to admit to himself, she did an amazing job. Looking back on his worries from before seemed rather foolish to him at this point. But he couldn’t just let her know that.
SONIC: “I mean… I guess it’s alright.”
He mumbled, slightly looking away.
Oh, how he hated admitting he was wrong.
AMY: “I’m sorry, what was that?”
She said wittily, bringing a hand to her ear.
SONIC: “It’s okay I guess.”
He said, still mumbling. This time, with a suppressed smile.
AMY: “Sorry, couldn’t hear ya. You’re going to have to speak up.”
She smirked, still holding a hand to her ear.
SONIC: “It’s not terrible.”
He shrugged.
AMY: “What was that? I was right all along and you should have never doubted my judgment? Why, yes. I agree.”
Sonic laughed.
SONIC: “Okay, okay. You did a really good job.”
He reluctantly admitted.
TAILS: “See? I told you there was nothing to worry about.”
KNUCKLES: “And to think you almost lost your mind over this.”
Amy turned to him with a smirk.
AMY: “You were really that worried, huh?”
She said, folding her arms.
SONIC: “Psh. What? No!”
AMY: “Well, what do you say~”
She asked, expecting a thank you.
SONIC: “Um… you win?”
AMY: “Keep guessing.”
SONIC: “I will never doubt your judgment again?”
AMY: “We both know that’s not true.”
SONIC: “Fine… thank you Amy, really.”
AMY: “Any time.”
She said with a wink.
