It had taken them so long to get to this part of their lives. This special day. One they will remember everyday for the rest of their lives. The day Dean finally makes Castiel an official Winchester.
After all the shit that had gone down, the fight with God, the empty taking of Cas, Cas telling Dean he loved him in his final moments. It had taken the toll on the two of them, mentally and physically.
Dean had all the scars endured from the fight with the vampires and the damn nail that pierced his back. He had thought he was a goner. Had accepted his fate and said his goodbyes to Sammy. Except, just as he was walking into the light, he was brought back. He could feel a healing touch, and when he opened his eyes, Cas was standing in front of him. His hand over his chest and his eyes blue.
He had come back and healed Dean. Brought him back to life once again. Given him another unearned chance, but now Dean realises he can tell him how he feels.
“Marry me.” Dean had said as soon as he fully realised what was happening. Shock encompasses Castiel’s face and Sam’s. “I didn’t get to tell you before- before the empty took you. Cas I love you so frigging much. It’s been so damn long. Five years. Now you’re back I can’t- I can’t lose you again.”
“I can’t bear the thought of losing you, Dean.” Castiel takes his hands in his blue eyes looking into the green ones. “I don’t know how it’ll work, I’m not human after all and I don’t have any ‘legal’ documents. But yes, Dean, I will marry you.”
They had given up hunting after the incident, deciding it was too risky now they don’t have God’s mojo on them, protecting them. They could have a life. They never found out how Castiel escaped from the empty again.
Dean was only a little worried about the wedding, worried about Castiel having cold feet and leaving him behind. The music starts, and he knows Castiel should already be in position.
Sam gives him a reassuring smile, looping his arm around Dean’s. Two workers open the large doors to the church, and Dean walks in. It’s a small wedding, only Jody, Donna, Claire and Jack attending but it’s all they need.
He reached the altar, stood opposite Castiel with a smile. Dean wearing a black suit and Castiel wearing a white suit, they had thought it would be a nice inside joke about Dean becoming a demon back when he had the Mark of Cain and Castiel being an angel.
The vicar, as it turns out, is unable to pronounce his R’s, and Dean has to bite back a laugh as they say the vows. Castiel has always been rather socially awkward and practically oblivious, so when it gets to the giving of the rings, the wedding will forever be known for Castiel’s misunderstanding and confusion.
“Do you have the wings?” The vicar looks at them, and Castiel tilts his head, confusion on his face as he looks at Dean.
Before any of them can answer, Castiel’s wings are on full display. The vicar looks, shock on his face as he takes in the angel standing in front of him.
“Cas, he meant the rings.” Dean can’t help but laugh. Castiel realises his mistake, putting his wings away, a blush spreading across his face.
The vicar marries them, still in awe about the fact that he is marrying a legit angel. “I now pronounce you, husband and husband.” The r still sounding like a w.
The after party is just the few of them in a bar, drinking and dancing. Dean smiles, his arms around his husband as he stands talking with Sam and Jody.
“I love you, Dean. I am sorry about the whole wing debacle,” Castiel apologises, messing with his tie.
“I love you too Cas. Don’t apologise, it makes the… wedding more memorable.” Dean leans close to him.
For someone who thinks so low of himself and believes constantly that he doesn’t deserve any of this happiness, he realises dreams do come true, even for people like him and he is finally with someone who loves him.
