Work Text:

Bakugo heard screaming from his left. One of the villains must have taken an attack from icyhot’s fire, unlucky bastard. He sprints through the crowd of villains and heroes alike as they clash sporadically. A wave of bile starts to rise in Bakugo’s throat as he frantically looks around, searching for a head of green hair that never seems to leave his side.

“Bakugo,” Kirishima yells to his left.

Bakugo turns and sees Kirishima shoving a villain to the ground in his unbreakable form.

“He’s up there.”

Kirishima points ahead over the battle, and Bakugo finally sees a hint of green on top of a truck. Bakugo rushes forward, not caring about any villain that tries to block his path. He releases explosions recklessly from his palms, not caring who he hits as long as it gets him closer to Deku. As he gets closer to the front of the battle where the villain and Deku are standing, Bakugo can see Deku kneeling next to the villain. Deku’s hands and legs are chained with what must be quirk resistant metal. The chains may not even be quirk resistant with how beat up the boy looks. Bakugo could see the blue and purple bruises running up and down Deku’s arms and legs. He looks tired, like he hasn’t slept in the few day’s he’s been captured. His right eye hardly even open because it’s so black and swollen. Deku’s eyes, or good eye, is staring right at him, a silent plea asking him to run away and leave him.

“Hello Bakugo,” the villain sneers, tugging on the chain attached to Deku’s hands, “I’ve been expecting you after I kidnapped your friend.”

Bakugo skids to a stop a few feet in front of the villain and glares up at him from below.

“Let him go,” Bakugo growls and raises his hands in a threatening manner, “or else.”

The villain laughs manically, tugging on Deku’s chains making them cling together with every movement of his shoulders. The villain stops laughing after a few seconds and peers down at Bakugo, bringing a hand up towards his chest then pointing down at him.

“Kneel,” the villain ordered.

Bakugo stood stunned for a moment as he watches the villains eyes turn darker, the villains mouth lifting in a mocking smirk.

“Kacchan doesn’t kneel to anyone,” Deku cries out, looking pleadingly at the villain next to him.

The villain tugs roughly on Deku’s chains, causing the boy to let out a cry in pain as the metal digs into his already bruised arms and legs.

Bakugo’s eyes widen with a mix of fury and concern as he drops quickly to his knees. His gauntlets clinking together as he rests his hands on his legs, hands curling into fists. Bakugo looks up slowly at the villain who is now smiling happily down at him.
Bakugo lowers his head and takes a breath. His whole body shaking, whether from anger or embarrassment he doesn’t know.

“Let him go, please,” Bakugo says quietly, his voice cracking on the last word.

The villain and Deku’s eyes both widen. Both were apparently not expecting Bakugo to concede quickly, or even at all. The villain starts to cackle, and throws his hands in the air.

“Look everyone,” he loudly exclaims, “look at the proud Bakugo Katsuki beg on his knees for his beloved friend.”

The few villains and heroes who are still standing all pause and turn to look at the leader. The faces on the battlefield turning to a mix of shock, anger or glee at the sight of Bakugo kneeling in front of the truck.

“Since Bakugo here has asked so kindly that I release dear Izuku, I will give him what he wants,” the leader exclaims giddily.

The heroes all watch as the villains they were fighting start to disappear, almost as if they were made of smoke. Bakugo watches in slow motion as the villain pulls on Deku’s chains, forcing Deku’s head right into his kneecap.

The villain turns and looks happily into Bakugo’s eyes that are full of rage.

“Here you are,” the villain pronounces, almost in a singsong voice, and yanks the now unconscious Deku off the truck towards Bakugo.

The chains disappear off of Deku’s arms and legs, revealing dark bruises and gashes from where they tore into his body. Bakugo rises, almost before he comprehends himself leaving the ground, and launches himself towards the unconscious hero. He catches Deku right before the boy hits the ground, cradling him to his body protectively. Bakugo hears other heroes start to run towards him, obviously concerned about both Deku and himself.

“Bakugo are you okay?” He faintly someone ask, his ears not listening to anything other than the quiet breathing of the boy in his arms.

Bakugo breathes in and releases a sigh, his whole body seeming to relax as he exhales.

“I’m okay now that Izuku is back,” Bakugo whispers under his breath as he looks at all the bruises and cuts on the unconscious boy beneath him, Bakugo’s right hand gently moving a strand of hair off of his face.
