Chapter 1: That was quite unexpected

Chapter Text

First day of senior year and I was already doing what I do best, keep things to myself. I have learnt to be pretty good at it since it’s what I’ve been doing since first year of high school. I have no need for other people, I don’t need their words nor their comfort, I’m fine by myself. Relying on other people is a waste of time and energy when you have yourself. If you don’t talk nor bring attention none will even notice you’ll exist, and if they do they only know your name but they have no interest in you. None will talk about you, none will talk to you.
Some people think that this kind of life is lonely, sad, and maybe even meaningless and pointless. I, in the other hand, couldn’t disagree more. None is there to ruin your life and your only priority is yourself, the only responsibility you own is you.

This year, I heard that a famous idol was joining school, he’s going to go to my class apparently. Him and Barbara are the main people I should stay away from. If I even talk to them the whole school will be filled with rumors. I, of course, don’t need that. I did some research on him and listened to some of his songs and saw some of his interviews. I must agree he is quite cute. He has a high pitch, kind of childish voice. Something feels awfully familiar with him, it’s a sense of déjà vu. It’s kind of weird but I’m probably making it up.
He already has so many friends, it hasn’t even been ten minutes. Why am I paying so much attention to him? I should just keep going to maths and ignore him. I barley walked through a couple lockers when I feel a tap on my shoulder followed by a childish voice.

“Xiao! Oh thank Barbatos, I never caught wind that you went to Kaze High!”
I just stopped walking and froze. How does he know my name? Why did he have to come up to me out of all people? So many concerns and questions all at the same time. This is the first time someone comes up to me about something that isn’t work in the whole time I’ve been in high school.

“Xiao? Teyvat to Xiao!”

“Pardon me, do I know you? Do I owe you anything?”
Venti just started hysterically laughing. Took him a whole minute to catch his breath.

“Owe me something? Xiaoxiao, have you gone completely insane? I just wanted to check up on you.”

“I don’t think I know you.”

“Awh, don’t tell me you forgot about me! We went to Tevayt middle school together. We always worked together on group projects.”

So that was the sense of déjà vu.

“Oh. Sorry, I chose to forget about those years in my life.”
Those years were a living hell, so I chose to forget about them. I had someone that I considered a friend, someone whom I thought I could trust. I came out to them, and right after that they ghosted me and told the whole school my secrets and then bullied me. So, I chose to forget as much as I can.

“Oh yeah, because of the “incident”, right? How are you doing now? I hope you’re doing much better!”
He then smiled at me, I don’t know why but his smile feels so warm and genuine.

“Yeah, I’m doing much better now, thank you. I heard you became famous, that must be nice.”

“Right on the money! Glad to hear you’re doing better! So, I don’t quite know anyone here, who do you tend to talk to?”

“Uhm, no one.”

Venti just stared at me like surprised pikachu.

“What? You don’t talk to anyone? You’re so cool though! Hmpf! Shame on them.”
He’s so cute. It should be illegal.

“No, no, I don’t want them to talk to me, better off on my own y’know.”

“Oh.” Venti then proceeded to look at the floor with a surprised pikachu face.

“Let’s go to maths now, Venti.”
