Work Text:
It was a typical day for Izuku. Training, hanging with friends, having lunch with his idol. He loved spending time with 7'3" blonde giant. The man was more than his hero, though, he would never admit it, he was also a father to him.
Izuku had long ago given up on his actual dad's return but remained hopeful for if nothing else his mom. That didn't mean he couldn't look up to someone who had actually been there to support him, be there for him during his embarrassing cries, his ups and downs, his fears.
Toshinori Yagi was more than his idol. Yet he would never admit it.
"Something wrong my boy? You've been staring at that Miso as if it's done you a great deal os dishonor." The amused barton voice pulled him from his thoughts startled.
"What!? NO! Not at all All Might!" Izuku barely kept his hold on the poor bowl as his mentor laughed at him.
"All Might..." He pouted. Yes All Might teased him a lot. So much so that Izuku knew he did it out of endearment not to torment him. Even when that large hand gently ruffled his unruly green hair he couldn't help but relax.
"I'm teasing, my boy." Those icy blue eyes held a fond amusement. Still he lavished the attention that was bestowed on him careful not to push into the touch.
"Better finish your food. It's almost time to head to class." He watched as his mentor relaxed back into the chair sipping at his tea, the cup dwarfed by his hands.
"All Might...we well, the class, I get if you're busy. Plus it is short notice, but you are working the dorms tonight right? Well..."
Toshinori was amused most of the time when Izuku spewed his word vomit but sometimes it was too much especially when it came to asking for something. "Young Midoriya, spit it out already. You're giving this old man a headache."
"You're not old All Might!" As many times as Izuku said it it still didn't change the fact that he was very much older than most of the teachers who were in their thirties while he himself was almost over fifty five.
Yet it amused him to no end how Izuku treated him like he was still a young buck. Izuku took a deep breath and got to the point. "We were wondering, that stew you made last week if you could make it again? I mean you don't have to but you already knew that and I know we don't have all the ingredients so it would put a bit of inconvenience."
"Again with the word vomit." Izuku froze looking up with wide eyes. The chuckle though held no annoyance. "Of course I will, just need someone to pick the ingredients up is all."
"I'll do it!" Izuku practically bolted up, nearly sending what little soup he had to come to the edge to spill out.
"My boy, settle down finish your food. You have less than five minuets." Toshinori didn't want the boy to end up still hungry because he was so focused on a simple question or the simple of items to get from the store. Yet Izuku was already cleaning everything up. Sometimes he wondered what was going on in that boy's head.
It didn't take long for Izuku to reach the store after school, what did take long was trying to chase away some no good robbers who seemed bound and determined to snatch some money. If he had been paying attention if he had just waited for help maybe he wouldn't have been seeing darkness consume his vision, or the fact the back of his head hurt, or maybe he wouldn't be kissing the ground right now. All he heard was, "UA brat will be worth a fortune."
Time ticked by slowly...Time seemed to stand still time was a black inkling in the back of his mind. Blinking a couple times all green eyes could focus on was one he was in a wooden chair, two his wrists were bond by cuffs to stop his quirk, and three he wasn't alone.
He watched the three men going through his stuff, his phone, another planning a ransom. Blinking again he called out. "Hey that's mine!"
"Someone's awake, mouthy too."
Another chuckled. "Not yours anymore bud. Thanks for the cash."
Izuku blinked that money was for his friends so they could have eaten that stew sure All Might could probably cook something else but they had been really looking forward to that dish.
"What is wrong with you three that you had to rob s store, kidnap me, then rob me!?"
"Can we gag him?"
"None of your business."
"Money."
Izuku had been gone for a good two hours. Everyone was getting antsy. They weren't the only. Toshinori was practically pacing the floor as he called Aizawa, then Mic, before going back ware the floor out. Running a hand through his hair he checked the time again. He had spammed the boy's phone with calls texts and even threatened that if he didn't respond then he would be handcuffed to his side for the remainder of the night.
No response.
No call back.
Nothing.
He knew something would have had to happened, he worried that he was hurt, bleeding, lying in a alley bleeding out unable to call for help.
Taking a deep breath he sat down. The other students despite their worry did their best to cheer him up in many ways. Bakuguo even ended up cooking to try to take the edge off. Yet even the smell of what he was doing couldn't cut the thick air of tension in the room.
That damn nerd. If he wasn't dead he'd kill him himself.
The food was ready the table set yet no one could focus on the meal. It had been four hours.
Izuku could only smile as he was released. "We can watch a movie, I know some really great All Might ones."
"Yeah sure kid."
"Whatever you want?"
"Who do I call?"
Izuku knew they weren't bad, sure they did bad things, but they weren't bad. Turned out they all had some money problems. One had gone bankrupt due to his business failing, the other wanted nothing more than to be a painter, then the last one he just wanted to be apart of something.
It took a three hour lecture for them to come around. How they too were hurting other financially by stealing, closing down business, how they were hurting others because they didn't want to build back from the ground up.
They never considered that. Not others, themselves yes, their anger, hurt, the spite they carried. It all faded away as they came to a realization.
Toshinori jumped as his phone rang, but didn't recognize the number. "Hello?"
The voice that came across was dark foreboding. Almost angry. "WE HAVE YOUR SON!"
Toshinori nearly jolted then blinked. "I don't have a son..." He saw all eyes on him as he blinked a couple times.
"He made us reevaluate our life choices and now we feel bad. So you can come pick him up." The voice sounded desperate and pleading. Who in the world would have such an influence on...
"Oh my God! You have Midoriya!" It took no time at all for him to leave the building to tell Aizawa and get in his truck as he went to the address that had been given.
If they did have his boy and his boy was hurt...he may be powerless but he sure as hell was not helpless!
So many things came to mind as he thought about what they may had done to his boy while he talked to them as if they were the ones needing a comforting lecture! As if they weren't the ones in danger.
Pushing the pedal down a little harder the truck sped forwards to the destination.
Izuku was more than happy sitting on the lumpy red couch with one of the robbers watching All Might. He was still excited to watch them, even though he knew them all by heart. Saving people with a smile on his face. Sure he wasn't the same All Might he was still All Might!
They were all pretty relaxed even the one painting who was pretty good at it was pretty happy. He was great with details and colors. He even took a picture sending it to his mother before calling her. "I'm going to become a painter." The other was so in thralled by the image they forgot that they had called someone to pick the kid up.
As if on cue the door swung open. "MIDORIYA!"
Izuku beamed from the couch waving his hand. "I'm here!" He bounded off the seat scurrying over to his mentor who all just grabbed him checking him over before giving a scary glare at the three. His looming posture and protective grip on the boy were enough to make them freeze into place as he backed up taking his ward with him.
"All Might?" Izuku fidgeted in place as he was led to the truck cops now surrounding the building. Toshinori said nothing till he was sure his boy was in the vehicle and safely buckled up.
"What happened!?" He turned to look at his boy. His eyes still shaded in shadow his blue eyes unseen.
Izuku stumbled over his words fidgeting with his restraint of the seatbelt as he explained.
Toshinori swore the boy was trying to give him a heart attack. Yet he wouldn't have it any other way as he wrapped his arms around the boy in a hug. The robber wasn't too far off.
His boy, this boy, was more than his successor he was his son.
