Work Text:
“Buck, man. You’ve gotta relax. He’s only been gone an hour,” Steve says, trying to calm the alpha.
“An hour is too long,” Bucky growls as he paces back and forth. “And he’s with Barton .”
“Clint isn’t that bad, come on. Give the guy some credit,” Steve argues.
“He’s an archer, a fuckin’ sniper , and he’s honestly the most clumsy person I’ve ever met in my entire life, and you want me to trust him with my omega?” Bucky asks.
“Okay, fair. He did wind up in the hospital that one time because he jumped off a building,” Steve says.
“He did what now?” Bucky asks, his eyes widening as he stares at Steve.
“Oh, it was during the Chitauri battle. He apparently likes to think he has actual superpowers, and I’d like to think he’s learnt his lesson, but I highly doubt it,” Steve says.
Bucky groans. “That’s it! I’m calling Sam and demanding him to come home!”
“Bucky, no!” Steve reaches over and grabs the phone from Bucky before he can even go to his contacts to try and call Sam. “You promised Sam you would let him do this. I know you’re scared, because trust me, I’m the same way every time Tony or Peter leaves for a long period of time, but you’ve got to trust that Sam knows what he’s doing.”
“I trust Sam,” Bucky defends weakly. “It’s the other people I don’t trust.”
“I understand,” Steve says sincerely. “That’s it. We’re having a Steve and Bucky weekend.”
“A Steve and Bucky weekend?” Bucky asks, raising his eyebrows.
“Yes, we’re putting our phones away until our omega’s come back,” Steve says.
“But what if there’s an emergency?” Bucky whines.
Steve stops, and looks over at Bucky, because his best friend has a point. Steve would never forgive himself if something happened to Tony and Tony tried getting a hold of him, but Steve didn’t answer. “Okay, so we won’t put our phones away completely, but we’re still going to put them away for a bit and we’re going to have some fun. Just the two of us, like old times,” he says.
Bucky shakes his head fondly as he stares at Steve. “How do I put up with you so much?”
“Please, this is nothing compared to the olden days,” Steve says with an innocent grin. “All the times we got in trouble and our mother’s wanted to murder us.”
Bucky nods instantly. “You’re right,” he says. “Okay, Mr. Fun. What are you planning on doing then?”
“I don’t know yet. I haven’t gotten that far,” Steve says. “But, I’m kind of hungry, so you wanna go and get something to eat?”
“You really think that we’re going to be able to just waltz down the sidewalk and grab a bite to eat?” Bucky asks. “Are you forgetting that you’re Captain Fucking America?”
“I can put on a disguise, it’s worked before!” Steve argues. “Come on, I’ll prove it.”
Bucky barks out a laugh as Steve marches away towards his bedroom.
Whilst getting ready for lunch with Bucky, Steve sends a sneaky text to Sam with Bucky’s phone, because he knows Bucky will appreciate knowing that Sam is perfectly fine.
sammy:
tell bucky i’m fine :D
“You can stop pacing,” Steve says when he walks back down to the living room, where he sees Bucky pacing back and forth. Steve walks up to him and shows him the text from Sam. “He’s fine."
Bucky sighs softly and looks up at Steve. “I’m still going to worry.”
“I know,” Steve says, and hands Bucky his phone. “Are you ready to grab something to eat?”
“Yeah, actually. I’m starving,” Bucky says, and makes sure he has his wallet before following Steve out of the living room. They make their way out of his and Tony’s house.
Bucky knows Steve is calm right now, but he also knows Steve. Steve is freaking out about Tony being gone just as much as Bucky is freaking out about Sam. It just so happened that both of their omega’s were gone at the same time. Except this is the first time Bucky has been away from Sam since they officially became alpha and omega. Safe to say, Bucky’s not handling it very well.
Bucky is shocked that Steve’s little disguise works, even though it’s just a hat and sunglasses. Bucky doesn’t get recognized as often as Steve, and he thinks it’s silly to wear a disguise.
If he wants to go out, then he’s going to go out. He’s already spent too much time being kept inside.
“God, you’re so boring,” Bucky says when they’re seated at the restaurant they’ve chosen.
“What are you talking about?” Steve asks, pouting. "How is a burger boring?”
“There are so many other items on the menu and you went with a burger ? I thought being married to Tony Stark would have helped you branch out a little,” Bucky says.
Steve rolls his eyes. “He has branched me out a little, I just don’t normally like his fancy taste. I’m perfectly happy sticking to an American classic,” he says, before happily taking a bite of his burger.
“Boring,” Bucky mumbles, shaking his head once more at the younger alpha.
The weekend passes by slowly, and Steve tries to make their weekend full of fun whether it means dragging Bucky out for a long hike, going to see a movie, going out for lunch or dinner, anything.
Bucky actually enjoys himself, so he doesn’t complain much about hanging out with Steve. Well, except for hiking. He complained about that part. But even then, he still had fun.
“You mother-!”
“Language!” Steve shouts, despite being right beside Bucky.
Bucky looks over and glares at the alpha. “Don’t fucking language me, Steve Rogers. Peter isn’t even around for you to be saying that. I’ll swear if I wanna swear! I’m one hundred and six years old!”
Steve laughs, and reaches over to wipe the flour off of Bucky’s face. “This isn’t going to be good.”
“Excuse me,” Bucky says, offended, and glares even more at Steve. “This is going to the best fucking cake you’ve ever tasted in your entire fucking-”
Bucky is so caught up in arguing with Steve, that he doesn’t even hear the door open. Sam is walking into the kitchen area with Tony right behind him. Sam stops, and raises his eyebrows at the sight of Steve and Bucky in the kitchen. The kitchen is an absolute disaster, and so are Steve and Bucky.
“What the actual-?” Sam begins, glancing over at Tony.
“Oh hell no. They destroyed my kitchen!” Tony cries, throwing his arms up. “Jarvis?”
“After Sergeant Barnes declared that he was bored, Captain Rogers suggested they bake a cake. Well, it hasn’t been going very well. Sergeant Barnes says otherwise,” Jarvis explains.
Sam snorts. “Of course he did,” he says, shaking his head. “Should we go stop them before they burn the house down?” He looks over at Tony with raised eyebrows.
“Oh, yeah, you’re probably right. We should stop them,” Tony agrees, nodding. He walks further into the kitchen, and clears his throat, finally earning Steve and Bucky’s attention. “Steve Rogers.”
“Tony!” Steve exclaims, dropping whatever he had in his hands to run over to Tony, hugging him.
“Jesus-”
“You are not ever allowed to leave for that long ever again, do you hear me?” Steve says, before pulling away from the hug and kissing Tony. “I missed you too much.”
“Tough,” Tony says, gently poking Steve in the chest, before kissing him once more. “Because I happen to run a business, in case you’ve forgotten. I actually have a reason to leave.”
Bucky lights up as soon as he sees Sam walk into the kitchen. “Thank God, you’re back!”
Sam laughs and Bucky hurries over and engulfs him into a tight hug. “Hi, alpha,” he says. “I told you everything would be fine, didn’t I?” He presses a kiss to the side of Bucky’s head. “I missed you.”
“I missed you too,” Bucky whispers. He pulls away from the hug, and kisses Sam once, before pulling away to look at him. “How was the mission? Did Barton look after you like I asked?”
Sam rolls his eyes. “I don’t need to be looked after, Buck, thank you very much,” he argues. “But yes, he was unbearable, and the mission went fine. We got the bad guy.”
“Of course you did. You’re one of the best,” Bucky says with a grin.
“Thanks, babe,” Sam says, and wraps his arms around Bucky. “What did you get up to?”
“More like, what didn’t we get up to?” Bucky groans. “You were gone for a whole fucking weekend and Steve made me go hiking! Hiking , Sam! Who does that?”
“Hey!” Sam and Bucky look over to see Steve glaring at them. “You said you liked hiking together!”
“Only because you gave me those stupid puppy dog eyes, and I couldn’t lie to you,” Bucky says.
Steve huffs. “Ungrateful. Can you believe this, Tony?”
Tony huffs out a laugh. “Come on, Stevie. Let’s leave these two lovebirds alone,” he says, gently grabbing Steve’s hand and leading the way out of the kitchen area.
Sam smiles softly as he watches the two before looking back at Bucky. “Was it really that awful?”
“No,” Bucky grins. “I just love giving him a hard time. It wasn’t that bad at all.”
“Mm, so maybe I should take you hiking more,” Sam says, leaning forward to kiss Bucky.
“Absolutely not,” Bucky says. “But I wouldn’t mind it if you gave me more of your sweet kisses.”
Sam grins, and he gently pushes Bucky against the kitchen counter, kissing him a few more times. “Well, we should probably clean up this mess that you and Steve made, and then we should get out of here and head home. How’s that sound?”
“That sounds wonderful,” Bucky says. “We have a lot to catch up on.”
“That, we do,” Sam says, unable to help himself, and giving Bucky one more kiss.
