"Thanks for joining me today Lloyd." Nya smiled as she sauntered down the path. "It's almost the 1 year.. mark."
"It's been so long since we've visited together." Lloyd hummed. “It’s not the issue of being busy. I think we're all still recovering.”
“I’ve moved on.” Nya looked around her, the baby blue sky calm. “Seeing this place every few days has become relaxing, and sometimes it’s comforting to know that he’s probably watching over us right now.”
Lloyd glanced around too, to see Zane’s old statue first, then the headstone belonging to the last fire elemental. “I feel like something is off…”
“It’s colder than usual." Nya gave a slight shiver. "Too cold. Let's go see him."
The two of them strolled over to the grave of the fire elemental, but what greeted them was the tiny wilting garden. The three flower species had been dug up and clods of dirt were strewn about. Nya gasped and rushed to what remained. "Damn kids… or whatever did this!" She kneeled and tried to put the plants back into their place. "Nonono…"
"I don't know who in their right mind would do this, but I can't stand the sight." Lloyd inspected the ruins and gasped. "They wrote on the back!"
Indeed, there was, in poor handwriting, an outrageous statement. 'DIE 4 A WURTHE CORS' it read. "Ok it's definitely a kid!" Nya started shaking out of reaching her emotional limits. "Why?! What's the point?! He saved the city so many times and how someone died doesn't prove their worth!!" She stormed off with Lloyd behind her. He'd never seen her kick off like that, but he was also full of unleashed rage. He hurried after the water elemental as she ran.
She was sitting beside a small lake in the park, playing with the water and making the surface ripple calmly. “It’s infuriating, I know, but we can just wash it off-”
“Kai was so much, I don’t understand why someone would say that.” Nya turned to reveal her face dripping with tears. “He was a saviour of Ninjago.”
“I’m not one to discuss how he died, but he had so much going on inside his head and I wished he spoke to me at all during that time of suffering.” Lloyd sat down beside her. “I’m not the best to talk to about romantic love but I could have let him know that it was ok, at least before his passing.”
Nya looked forward at the lake again, sniffling a little. “He didn't listen when I told him he would be okay. Maybe your voice could have changed things a little.”
They sat quietly, the gentle breeze sweeping their hair to the sides.
“Do you need to be alone right now or..?” He broke the silence by trying to get up, but Nya grabbed his sleeve.
“Don’t go… we can both benefit from getting through this together again.” She smiled through puffy eyes. “Let’s go wash the gravestone."
Lloyd nodded and helped her stand.
