No Refunds

Summary:

Bobby made a wish with an asshole genie, and now he wants a refund.

The prompt for this story was "What do you mean?"

Notes:

Ah, I finally hit double digits. I'm officially one-third of the way there. Only took me most of the year.

You ever spend so long trying to come up with a plot for something that you're just desperate to get it out of the way, only to realise you like your story idea so much that you want to make it a separate thing instead of wasting it on a prompt, so you end up making more progress on that story over two days than you have for the entirety of the time you've had the prompt? Happens to the best of us.

Anyway, I finally came up with something. Now I can finally move on.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Bobby stormed into the cave, making his way through the familiar labyrinth of tunnels until he found what he was looking for. Floating in the middle of the cavern was a small impish figure in a glowing ball of light. His name was Jareth, a genie.

‘I want a refund.’ Bobby said.

The genie froze in mid-air and turned to look at him, as though it had just realised he was there. ‘What do you mean?’

Bobby crossed his arms. ‘I mean that I want you to undo my last wish and let me make a different one!’

Jareth floated gently down to the ground so he was standing on two feet. ‘No deal.’

‘What?’

‘I don’t see the problem here. You asked me to bring your cat back to life, and I did.’

‘As a zombie!’

‘It’s not my fault. There’s a lot of grey area in “bring my cat back.” Besides, I thought you humans liked zombies. You sure make a lot of movies about them.’

‘You could’ve at least mentioned that I had to be specific.’

‘Well, what I did mention is rule number one: no take-backsies.’

Bobby frowned. Then his eyes lit up as something occurred to him, but Jareth cut him off. ‘And no wishing for more wishes either, wise guy.’

‘I wish I could.’

‘Don’t start that shit. I’m warning you.’

Notes:

I'll probably just start posting drabbles so I can get these done faster.
