Work Text:
It was during my 3rd year of High school when I learned the dark truth my parents told me about. They were usually calm and cool with me learning to go to places on my own, growing up, but they'll usually get worried and scared whenever a friend invites me over to parties or school-related events, they told me it's because they don't want anything bad to happen to me. I shook it off thinking they were just protective of me.
Prom night was in a few days, and I was excited to go along with my friends, but that's when my parents were horrified by the news I gave them, "I know how much you want to prom, Beth, but we're worried if it'll happen again." As my mom told me, I was a bit confused. What does she mean by "it"? Was she referring to some school shooting? Or the abductions that were recently being spread around the news? I had no other choice but to tell my friends that I wouldn't be attending prom as I promised them I would. Sometimes I wonder what my mom meant when she stated that a certain moment will happen again. I thought it could be history repeating itself like usual.
With only 2 days left until prom, my mom showed up in my room, sitting by the edge of my bed. "Do you want to know why we're worried about you, Beth?" She asked me, this felt strange, she never asked me things like this before, but I nodded, wanting to know more. "Beth, my sweet daughter, you aren't my first child, you are the second." Now things are getting strange, did I have an older sibling? Why didn't my parents tell me sooner?
"I'm sorry I never told you this sooner, but I knew it was for your good. You see, you had an older sister, Constance, your father and I had her for so long. But in 1989, something bad happened to her during her prom night. When your father and I got the news, we couldn't believe our ears, the school told us that a massacre occurred that night. That's why we're worried about you, Beth, we're scared if you share the same fate Constance did." My mom started to cry, I couldn't believe what was going on, I had an older sister, and she died years ago.
I held my mom in a warm hug to make her feel better, yet I still feel that urge to look more into the bloodshed that happened in 1989.
One day until prom, I was at the library searching up the prom massacre of '89, and I learned an even darker truth, Constance was selected as prom queen during the night, but then the school was a complete mess, there was blood everywhere, dead bodies lying on the floor, and Constance was nowhere to be found. I found footage of that night, it appeared that the lights in the school gym went out, and there was laughing, and when the lights went back on, everyone died, the video ending with the camera breaking. I was completely shocked by the events I witnessed. Nevertheless, what happened to Constance after all that happened, I tried looking that up, but I got no results.
I wasn't able to sleep that night, hearing maniacal laughter all night.
Today was the day that prom night was being held. Keeping the promise I made to my parents, I didn't go, I spent the whole day after school with them, while also checking their room for more information about my dead sister. I found an old picture of her along with our parents on each side, "So this is what Constance looked like." I thought to myself. She had long, curly maroon hair, hazel green eyes, a perfect complexion, and a figure. She was also wearing a lavender dress that was too pretty to look at. That's strange, how did my sister go through all that pain, despite how pretty she is? That night when prom started, I spent my time playing some Smash Bros. by myself. It felt pretty fun to play video games to ease your mind, especially when you discovered what happened in '89. But I heard a bang, I paused my game to go check it out, I then heard a giggle, now that got me worried. Leaving my room, I went to go outside, only to see a message written on the window with what I believe was blood. The message said, "I'm back." I heard the front door open and I saw bloody footprints leading into the hallway, I saw more messages written everywhere, each saying something different. Like: "I killed them all." "I did it." "I won't look back." And "I'll make you proud."
I was completely shocked by all these messages, I wanted to know who's messing with me like this. I heard a bang on the window, I turned around to see who's doing all of this. I couldn't believe that my sister, who I knew died years ago, is right here outside my house, only this time all of her makeup was messed up due to the tears, her arms were covered in blood, and her left eye was blood red in the forms of rings and her sclera was pitch black. She stared at me with a creepy smile that I could never forget. She started laughing like a complete psychopath, I ran away to my parent's room to tell them about this madness, only to find them lying on the floor, dead. I was completely devastated, kneeling where they were, I started bursting into tears, my parents who had a big heart and cared so much about me were killed. And I knew exactly who killed them.
Leaving their room, I entered the garage and grabbed a box cutter by my dad's office. I also armor my dad's motorcycle helmet as well, for extra protection. I left the garage and back to the kitchen, hearing Constance spewing dark remarks as she wandered off to find and kill me next. There, I decided to arm myself with a kitchen knife instead. Constance suddenly found me, I tried attacking but it was too late. She stabbed me where my parents hold me most dear, my heart. Yet I lived either way, but Constance didn't know that yet. I attacked her from behind, stabbing her several times in the back until she was on the ground, completely weak. I knew that it had to be done as left my own house
It's now my college year, I paid for my heart surgery to get done, and moved far away from my hometown. I needed that fresh start, but I still needed more answers about Constance. It turns out she was the one who caused the massacre of '89. She was brought right back to life through a demonic ritual, but luckily I stopped her before she could mindlessly kill off even more people. Her laughter still haunts me to this very day.
