There Is No You And I

Summary:

Cody and Trent were in a happy relationship by the time Cody would appear on World Tour. At first, things were fine. Cody would gush about Trent any chance he got and would always be sure to text him. Then one of the new contestants, Sierra, started to...overstep a few boundaries. Cody started to talk about Trent less, but he still texted him...that was until his phone went missing

Notes:

I wrote this first before my other trody fic, it only really matters with the first paragraph and how it was written

Work Text:

It really sucked Trent wasn't on the next season. They knew why, plus Trent wasn't entirely interested anyway, but it still sucked. Cody and Trent had gotten together after Total Drama Aftermath and after they formed their band. Cody was the only one who had believed Trent wasn't as out of his mind as everyone else thought he was. He actually acted normal when Trent came to him about the breakup with Gwen. They both had bonded over their love and talent for music. They never really got the chance to be open with their relationship, as much as they wanted to. They could've used World Tour as their chance, but again, Trent didn't make it that season. Trent was gonna support Cody at home, and Cody had a plan to gush about Trent whenever he could, make sure he knew he was thinking about him. They'd even text each other in between challenges and shoots. Cody was caught on camera on his phone smiling and giggling much more often than ever before. Trent even gave him a silicone necklace that looked like one of his guitar picks to wear. Something that'll help him not chew on things he's not supposed to. The shape was so he'd think of him. Even has T + C on it in sharpie. Something he constantly used to talk about him.

However, this didn't last as long as Cody would've liked. There was this girl, Sierra, that wouldn't leave Cody alone. He immediately knew not to talk about Trent around her with how she had acted with him. When she asked about the guitar pick, he just said it was a Drama Brothers thing and T + C was an inside joke. After three weeks he went from talking about Trent everyday, to not talking about him at all. Everyone took notice. Gwen, of all people, even confronted him about it. He didn't say much. Couldn't explain it. At least he'd still text him and could talk about him during confessionals. That was until he had somehow lost his phone. Probably left it in one of their challenge spots. Cody…did not react to that well. He had an entire confessional talking about it. He panicked about it, scared that Trent was gonna get the wrong idea, scared Trent would need him for something and he couldn't respond, he would be lost in the dark without any way to communicate to Trent outside of confessionals. Things got even worse when he managed to lose the necklace Trent gave him. He woke up one day and it was gone. He never took the thing off, so he immediately assumed somebody took it, maybe tossed it out of the plane or something. Nobody admitted to it, and there was nothing Cody could do to get anyone to. During his venting confessionals, he would shake his hands really badly and his leg would be bouncing. Something he did while stressed. He'd chew on objects he shouldn't be since losing it. He tried not to but struggled really bad with it. He really panicked when that happened. Trent was really gonna get the wrong idea now.

Another thing he noticed was Sierra was getting more and more…almost dangerous by the day. At first Cody thought her fangirl act was, well, that. An act. A little comedy bit to help out the show. As time went on, her act became a little less exaggerated and comedic, and a little more serious. A lot more serious actually. He felt scared around her. Everyone noticed. The way he looked and acted when she was around was not comfortable. He thought maybe she was the one who took his necklace, but he wouldn't get her to admit it. He never once thought about her taking his phone, he genuinely thought he lost that.

The dots began to connect during a particular elimination ceremony. Cody couldn't tell you who was eliminated, but he could tell you that as the ceremony was starting and everyone was going to sit in their spots, Sierra had managed to trip. She didn't fall, but something fell out of her pocket. Cody immediately recognized it as his phone. He picked it up before Sierra could.

"This is my phone.." he said once he picked it up. "Why do you have my phone?!" He exclaimed to Sierra, who put on her best innocent smile.

"Well you dropped it, so I grabbed it for you! I was gonna return it, but somebody was sending some really rude text messages, so I handled them for you!"

"...Sierra, I lost this phone weeks ago. You've had this for weeks!"

"I kept it to help you! People kept bothering you! I couldn't let them be so rude to my Cody!!"

Cody glared at Sierra before looking through his phone, seeing what all she had done. The first thing he noticed was that his wallpapers were now pictures of Sierra. They were pictures of him and Trent before. When he went to the gallery to fix it, all of his pictures of him and Trent were deleted. Replaced with a bunch of Sierra pictures. His face looked horrified as he continued to go through it. When he got to the text messages, his face turned pale. His grip on his phone tightened and his body shook. You could see tears forming in his eyes and his teeth were clenched.

"...You made me break up with Trent?"

The room was silent. Everyone looked stunned and sympathetic for Cody.

"He's no good for you Cody!!" Sierra exclaimed. "He doesn't love or know you like I do! He's getting in the way of you and I!!"

"THERE IS NO YOU AND I!!" Cody exploded on Sierra, his hands in fists to his sides, his face glaring at her red with anger, his shoulders tensed, body still shaking, and a few tears falling. "There's never been a you and I! I don't like you Sierra! You're creepy, insane, scary, and downright dangerous! I don't feel safe when I'm with you! What normal person takes somebody's phone, and breaks up with their boyfriend for them?? You seem to have this warped sense of reality that makes you think just because you like me and we're in the same room it means we're dating. We're not. I'm dating Trent. Or was, will, I dunno, we'll figure it out. It's Trent that I'm in love with, not you, and it'll never be you. I hope you don't get eliminated solely because I want you as far away from Trent as possible. Who knows what you'll do to him if you're close to each other. I don't know what fairy tale ending you think you're getting, but it's not happening. Thinking about it, now I know it was you who stole my necklace. You probably threw it off the plane! Save whatever explanation you have, because I don't want to hear it. Continue the ceremony without me. I have a relationship to fix." Cody stormed out of the room, not looking back at anybody as he went to the confessional. The room was awkwardly silent, everyone completely stunned as to what they just saw. Cody…Cody never acted like that before. When Sierra sat back down and they awkwardly continued the ceremony, she sat as far away from everyone as possible.

Meanwhile, Cody was sitting in the confessional, head hung low, desperately texting Trent.

Hey.

Trent, listen, this is a misunderstanding

I didn't send those text messages

My stalker did

You know Sierra? The purple haired girl who won't leave me alone?

It was her

She stole my phone, deleted all my pictures of us, put her pictures in instead, including as my wallpaper, sent you those messages, and took the necklace you gave me

I'm so sorry

You probably aren't gonna read these, I know how you get when you're sad, so I'll have to wait till we see each other again or this episodes airs to explain everything

If you even watch it

I love you. I really do. I promise. I'll see you whenever I get eliminated or I win

I love you

Cody rested his head on his arm, which was resting on the sink in front of him. His other hand was hanging down in front of him, still holding onto his phone. He felt tired. Exhausted. Sad. Angry. Heartbroken. He silently cried, sniffling every so often. His body was still shaking. Every so often he'd shake his hand or his leg would bounce. He couldn't…believe this had happened. Yeah Sierra was creepy from the start, but going this far? After a while, Cody sat up, his hand gliding through his hair as he stared at the wall. It stayed there for a bit, before falling into his lap with a slap. He shook it again after that, stopping before he spoke.

"I don't know…what to say…I feel…angry, lost, heartbroken, exhausted, completely stunned that this even happened. What would have happened if I never caught Sierra? Would she convince me Trent broke up with me? What would it be like when we saw each other again?....What is it gonna be like when we see each other again?" A pause, then a sigh. "All I know is, I have to make this right. And Trent?" Cody looked directly at the camera. "If you're watching, please know that..I really really do love you. I'll say it a thousand times and then a thousand times more. We're gonna fix this. I promise. I can't give up on us. I can't. I'm not Gwen, no offense Gwen. I'm not just gonna…leave you and pretend like I never loved you, like you never loved me, and then run off and have a messy love triangle with somebody else. I want you, and only you. Nobody's loved me like you have. Given me an actual chance like you have. The only other person who actually likes me is, well, you know. I can't let that go." He sniffled and wiped an eye with the back of his hand. "I just can't.." He stayed in there in silence for a little while longer, the only sound being his crying. Once he was finished and comfortable enough, he got out and put his phone in his pocket, silently heading back to be with his team. Everyone looked at him with sympathetic eyes when he came back. Even Alejandro and Heather felt sympathetic. Cody was even offered to sit first class with the winning team to get away from Sierra. He absolutely took that opportunity. He couldn't sleep that night, staying up for hours just to see if Trent would respond. No response. He couldn't pay attention to the challenge the next day. Chris barely mentioned what had happened the day before.

Cody ended up making it to the final four. The final four. Unfortunately he was still with Sierra, but she had somewhat distanced herself from him since…y'know. She also seemed to have gotten some help, lord knows from where. That was a plus he guessed. Still wouldn't change just how much Cody despised Sierra for what she did. Trent never responded to his messages. Didn't even read them. This made Cody even more determined to win or get off somehow. He was gonna get to Trent, and he was gonna fix this.

Before it got to the final three, Sierra ended up blowing up the plane. Cody knew she was dangerous. This ended up, understandably, getting her disqualified. Meaning she was eliminated before Cody. Meaning she was closer to Trent. Cody was panicked and faced with a dilemma. Either continue with this thing and win, but have to rely on everyone else to make sure Trent was safe, or throw the game, losing, and getting able to see and protect Trent himself. But then Chris announced they'd be in Hawaii, with their friends watching. Perfect. He could see Trent and not have to throw the game. He wasn't allowed to see him before the challenge, as they pretty much got right into it.

Trent had managed to come down to watch the final three. Gwen mentioned something to Cody about Trent staying in his room since the two broke up. Cody knew he'd do that. The moment he saw Trent in the crowd he smiled at him, only getting a sad smile in return. Ouch. Though Cody did notice Trent was in the crowd that was rooting for him. He'd remember that. He also noticed he had a piece of black string in his hand.

Cody was forced to joust Alejandro in a coconut bra and grass skirt, which he wasn't a fan of, above shark infested waters next to fire. Needless to say, Cody was terrified. But he ignored that. He was going to win this. Beat Alejandro, and make things right with Trent.

During the fight, Trent could be seen multiple times looking horrified for Cody. His body would tense and his jaw would drop. He never made any noise. Everyone else had him covered. Especially Sierra. Cody didn't mind Sierra this time. She was supporting him in an almost life or death situation after all. Cody was almost pushed into the fire behind him, but managed to get the upper hand. Him and Alejandro were pushing their batons against each other, when Heather had suddenly gasped.

"Oh no!" She exclaimed. "Trent's being attacked by Sierra!!"

Cody, being as gullible and fearful for his boyfriend's safety as he was, believed Heather when she said that. His eyes went wide as he turned his head towards the crowd where Trent was.

"Trent?!" He exclaimed before he turned his head. "Someone help him!!"

"No!!" Sierra called out. "Cody!!"

He felt something smack against him as his baton flew out of his hands and into the water.

"No!!"

"Consider yourself disarmed." Cody's attention was taken by Alejandro. "And displatformed!!" Suddenly, Cody was hit hard by Alejandro's baton, and he was sent flying into the shark infested water.

"CODY!!" Trent's voice echoed through the air as he stood up like a bullet. Panic was on his face as he ran to the shoreline, sliding down to his knees and leaning forward towards Cody. Cody's head popped out of the water, and he immediately looked around for any sharks, his eyes landing on Trent, who had his hand out for him. Cody took no time to desperately swim towards the shore, grabbing Trent's hand who immediately pulled him out of the water and close to his chest. Cody hugged himself as he shivered from the cold water, Trent still holding onto him, his head resting on his chest.

"Cody?? Cody, are you ok??" He heard Trent call out. Cody paused, before nodding his head and answering.

"I will be." He pulled back and looked up at Trent. "..I'm sorry."

"What for?"

"For everything. You've been heartbroken because of me, and I can't even win the whole thing. I…I don't know if you got my messages, but I didn't send you those texts. My stalker did. I would never break up with you. But I still feel like it's my fault. I should've done something. Watch my phone more carefully. Slept with one eye open. I dunno just something. And I didn't, and that got you hurt. And now I got nothing to show for it except a loss. Maybe..maybe I deserve that now that I think about it. But I wanted to win this for you. For us. And I couldn't. And I'm sorry."

"Hey." Trent spoke softly, holding Cody's face in his hands, wiping a few stray tears Cody didn't realize he had. "Don't apologize. Nothing is your fault. I could tell she was making you uncomfortable before I stopped watching, after you-she broke up with me. I had no idea it was so bad. I'm sorry that you had to go through all that. And don't worry about you winning. I don't care about that. I would've loved to see you win, and should'ves don't matter. What matters is you're here now, and you're clearing things up, and you're not getting eaten by a shark or set on fire."

"...I love you. Really. I do."

Trent smiled and gave Cody a gentle kiss to the lips. "I love you too."

"I'm not leaving you alone till we're off Hawaii. Not that we have a choice but still. I…I think Sierra's gotten some help, but after everything I want to be with you as long as I can. Plus, I've been looking forward to this forever. There's nothing more romantic than getting to spend days in Hawaii with my boyfriend-you are still my boyfriend right?"

"Of course I am." Another gentle kiss. Cody was smiling now. His shivering had totally stopped.

"Also, you said you didn't watch after Sierra broke us up?"

"No. I couldn't." God…Cody could only imagine the pain he went through.

"Meet me at your hotel room after filming. I wanna show you something." Trent nodded in response.

"Now, let's get you dry and changed." Trent helped Cody to his feet, holding his hand as they began walking to get ready for the final challenge. Trent only took a few steps before stopping.

"Oh!" He reached into his pocket and pulled out the black string Cody saw him hold earlier. "Found this the other day. Dunno how it got here." It was Cody's necklace Sierra had tossed out the plane. Cody smiled brightly, immediately grabbing it and putting it on, giving Trent a cheek kiss as a thanks. "Sorry it's wet, I think it washed up on shore. I rewrote our initials on it..in case you wanted it."

"Are you kidding? Of course I do." Another cheek kiss as they continued walking again.

Later that day was the final challenge, Cody ended up being one of Heather's helpers. Before he went into the volcano with everyone, Trent was sure to give him a kiss and a "be careful!"

Heather ended up winning the whole thing. Thank God. After her victory, everyone got to have quality time on the beach. Trent and Cody decided to hang out with everyone for a while, but not before having a conversation with Sierra.

"Hey guys?" Sierra had said as she wheeled behind Cody and Trent, who were on their way to meet up with the rest of the group. They turned to her and Cody immediately had an awkward look on his face.

"Oh, hey Sierra.." He said with an even more awkward tone.

"I wanted to talk if that's ok?"

"Of course. It had to happen anyway."

Sierra took a moment before letting all her thoughts out. "I'm sorry for how I acted. I don't expect to be forgiven or a friendship or anything, I just needed to say that. I don't know what exactly went through my mind trying to get you to love me like that. My mom had never taught me well on how to get boys. There's a lot about me that I just..can't explain. It doesn't excuse what I did, but I guess it's an explanation. This is just..my way of learning to let you go. Trent clearly makes you happy, and I have to learn to be ok with the fact that it's not me doing what he does. If I hadn't been so crazy over you, I would've said you guys were a cute couple. Which, you are, I just would've said it sooner." Sierra gave the couple a soft smile, trying to show she was sincere. Cody was a little touched by the attempt.

"Uhm, thanks Sierra. I…I don't know when I'll be able to forgive you for what you did. Luckily it didn't actually end with my relationship being ruined, so I think I'll be able to forgive you in due time. It just..might take a while. I appreciate you saying all of that, and I'd be more than happy to be your friend. Just..just give me some time. Also, thanks for being in my corner during the final three challenge. I'm not used to people actually being in my corner."

"Of course! You deserved to win. But I'm still proud you made it so far."

Cody sighed and let go of Trent's hand, leaning down and hugging Sierra, careful of her injuries. He could tell she was trying not to squeal. He pulled back with an amused smile. "Go on. Squeal." She took no time to do just that, making both him and Trent laugh. "Now we should get going, I'm sure everyone's waiting. Need any help?"

"That would be nice."

"You got it." Cody said, going behind Sierra and grabbing onto her wheelchair, wheeling her over to the rest of the group with Trent right next to him.

After the festivities that night, Trent and Cody got to finally be alone in Trent's hotel room. They threw some pjs on first, then Trent had laid in his bed, while Cody grabbed the remote and crawled into bed next to him, Trent immediately putting his arm around his waist. Cody started flipping through channels, searching up Total Drama World Tour, before eventually finding the episode where he blew up on Sierra.

"This is what I talked about earlier, after I lost." He said as he fast forward to the elimination ceremony. "Figured you'd at least wanna see this since you stopped watching." He watched Trent out of the corner of his eye as he let the episode play. He could tell Trent was getting emotional as he watched. He paused it after his confessional. He looked over at Trent, who almost looked like he could cry, but had the proudest smile on his face.

"...Babe?"

Trent stared at the screen in silence, before turning to Cody.

"Dude…that…I've never seen you like that before."

"Nobody has. I've never…gotten so angry and emotional before."

"..I'm proud of you. It took a lot of guts to do that. Also, your message was really sweet. Not just that, but you did amazing at the challenges. Final three? Even I couldn't get there. You were wonderful this season Cody."

Cody looked up at Trent and smiled.

"Thanks.."

"I can't believe my boyfriend is that cool."

"Treeent! I'm not that cool.."

"Are you kidding?? Everything you did was way past cool!!"

"You'd do the same."

"You don't know that."

"Yeah I do."

"Educated guess."

"Sure, we can call it that."

Trent chuckled and gave Cody a gentle kiss to the lips. When he pulled away, he briefly walked away to open the door, putting the "do not disturb" tag on the handle, then locking and shutting it again, walking back over to Cody.

"Just what do you think you're planning?" Cody questioned as Trent crawled on top of him, straddling him.

"Like you said. What's more romantic than spending a few days in Hawaii with your boyfriend? I'm just making the most of it." He leaned down and started kissing Cody again, starting with a few quick kisses to the lips one after another, till they just started making out, hands and lips all over each other.

They spent the rest of the time together, actually leaving the room to spend proper romantic time beyond making out in their room. Not that they didn't do that multiple times. Cody managed to get a few extra days for them, since they didn't have many for World Tour. Cody didn't get first place, but he sure felt like he had won.
