Chapter Text
A moment, a love
A dream, aloud
A kiss, a cry
Our rights, our wrongs
Six Weeks
Satine was not sure how she had gotten into this situation.
Well, she knew “how”. Wine. Dancing. Stolen words. Tangled bedsheets.
However, Satine was certain that she and Obi-Wan were protected. There was no doubt. She had an implant.
Yet Satine Kryze, Duchess of Mandalore, was pregnant.
She stared at the medical scanner, flashing the results of the blood test she had taken, and felt her heart drop.
This was bad.
Extremely bad.
Never mind that it could cause a galaxy-wide scandal, but it could be disastrous for them both. Obi-Wan risked being expelled from the Jedi Order, and Satine could be deposed in disgrace.
There was no way she could continue the pregnancy. Not when it was this hazardous.
Yet, she needed to tell Obi-Wan. He deserved to know before she went for a termination. Satine was scared of how he would react. She doubted he would be angry, but he knew this could be a catastrophic mess.
Satine knew this news was too big for a simple holo-message, but she did leave one for him to come to Mandalore urgently. Obi-Wan was on Mandalore within hours. Obi-Wan picked up on her body language quickly when she greeted him on the platform but decided not to question it until they arrived at her office.
“Satine?” he asked cautiously. Without thinking, she launched herself at him and hugged him. Obi-Wan was taken aback and wrapped his arms around her. He noticed she was trembling and he stroked her hair. “Has someone hurt you?”
Satine shook her head. She sniffed and pulled away from him. He cupped her face with one hand, his eyes pleading with her to tell him what was wrong.
“I’m… I’m pregnant.” Obi-Wan stared at her, frozen in shock. His heart pounded to the point it would explode out of his chest. “You’re the father.”
Obi-Wan felt faint, and he had to sit down on one of the chairs facing her deck. He found himself level with Satine’s still flat belly and tried to contemplate how there was a child - their child - growing inside her.
“Obi-Wan?” she asked, breaking his focus. “I need to tell you I intend to terminate the pregnancy.”
Obi-Wan had expected her to say this. He knew it would be a massive risk for her to have their child.
No matter how much he wanted her to have their baby.
“How are you feeling?” he asked, looking into her crystal blue eyes.
“Terrified.” She looked terrified, as well as exhausted. “I thought you had the right to know before I make the appointment."
Obi-Wan nodded, “It is the sensible thing to do under the circumstances.” Satine started crying, probably a combination of her hormones spiking and the stress. He reached out to take her hand. “Satine, it’s okay. It’s not ultimately my choice. You have to carry the baby, Satine. I know this would be too much of a risk for both of us. We’re not even a couple, so we could not provide a stable life for them. This is just a massive mistake.”
“I don’t think it is a mistake.”
Despite being determined to go through with a termination, doubt has set into Satine’s mind. She was thinking about whether the baby would have Obi-Wan’s auburn hair, whose blue eyes they would inherit and whether they would be forthright and discerning like her or insightful and kind-hearted like Obi-Wan.
She then noticed that Obi-Wan was staring up at her with those damn ocean eyes. They were in this predicament because her slightly tipsy self was drowning in his eyes. Her lowered inhibitions had caused her to kiss him that night. The next thing they knew, they were in her bedroom, clothes scattered around the floor and kissing every inch of each other’s skin.
Satine had no regrets about that night, even if the consequence was far from ideal. It had been a night of passion and, more importantly, love. She knew Obi-Wan could not verbally express it, but he more than showed it that night.
It definitely was not a mistake.
However, the pregnancy was a worry for them both.
“Satine?” Obi-Wan asked.
Satine snapped out of her thoughts and sat in the other chair, “I need a moment." Subconsciously, her hand rested on her belly.
“Satine, what do you want to do?”
“I don’t know. I know I should terminate the pregnancy, but... For some reason, I can't see myself going through with it.”
I will be with you whatever you choose.”
Satine deeply breathed, “I think I want to have this baby.”
Now she had said it, she felt herself relax. It was as if the decision she was making was the right one even if Satine knew this was an incredibly precarious decision.
Obi-Wan’s face softened. “If you are certain,” he said.
“I know this is a bad idea.”
“It is. Probably the worst you have had.”
“I don’t know how we will get around it.”
“Do you want me to leave the Jedi Order?”
“You can’t, especially not now.”
“Maybe my allegiance has changed.”
“Your allegiance has always been to the Republic and democracy.”
“It can be to the Republic, democracy, you and our baby.”
“I just think… Your friends need you.”
Obi-Wan conceded that she had a point. He could not leave Anakin and Ahsoka to lead the Republic army alone however determined he was to be by Satine’s side.
“I can try to come to you if you need me to. Scans, appointments. The birth.”
“I need to work out how I will hide it.”
“Over-flowing dresses?”
“And what about after?”
“I guess we have eight months to prepare for an excuse.”

The next morning, Satine found a personal medical droid to be by her side for the rest of the pregnancy. Obi-Wan stayed with her for the rest of the night so they could talk about how they were going to make the pregnancy work. Satine was going to pretend the baby was adopted. It would only take a document forgery and giving birth off-world to be somewhat convincing. Obi-Wan knew his ability to be by her side would be difficult, but he was determined to be by her side as much as possible.
Satine lay on the bed and waited while the droid - called Evee - scanned her uterus and internal organs. Obi-Wan sat beside her, his hand clasped in hers.
“Pregnancy confirmed. Gestational age is six weeks,” Evee stated. “Foetus appears in good health and has a strong heartbeat.”
“That’s good,” Obi-Wan stated, trying to give Satine a reassuring smile.
“It is,” Satine replied. She lowered her soft pink tunic and stood up. “Thank you, Evee. You may power down.”
Obi-Wan stood up and touched her face, “Are you okay?”
“A little overwhelmed, to be honest, but I guess that is normal for any pregnant person."
“Are you feeling anything?”
“My…” Satine was not sure why she felt embarrassed. They were both adults. “My breasts are rather tender.” Satine watched Obi-Wan’s face. He did not seem remotely put off. “I’ve just felt a load of weird symptoms. I feel like I have some metal in my mouth. No sickness yet, but it’s still very early.”
Obi-Wan looked her in the eyes and kissed her forehead tenderly, “It seems like a load of hard work on your body. You look tired.”
“I feel it.”
“Are you going back to bed?”
“I can’t. Duty calls. If this is going to work, I need to be as present as I can possibly be.”
“Satine, promise me that you won’t overdo it. I might not be the most clued up on female anatomy, but I know pregnancy is difficult.”
“Harder when you can’t enjoy it because you have to keep it a secret.”
Obi-Wan noticed the slight crack in her voice and hugged her, “Satine, you don’t have to go through with the pregnancy. I will never resent you for it. I only want you to be okay, both physically and mentally.”
“I know, but choosing to have this baby just felt right despite everything.”
“This is just as hard for me. I want to be by your side.”
“We’re doing the best we can under the circumstances.”
“Just let me know when you are going into labour. I don’t want you doing it on your own.”
“Trust me, I might need to rip your testicles off if the pain is as bad as people say it is.”
“That is quite violent for a pacifist.” Satine laughed against his shoulder. “I know I might not be able to be there all the time, but you know where to find me. Even if it is for a chat.” Obi-Wan kissed her forehead. “I should leave before someone notices I have gone missing.”
“That might be a good idea.”
Obi-Wan pulled away and pressed a kiss to her lips. Satine welcomed it as a comfort. He touched her belly and stroked his thumb over the soft flesh.
“I love you, Satine.”
She blinked, “That’s the first time I have heard you say that.”
“I could have picked a better moment, but I mean it. I have loved you since I was nineteen. I don't think I ever stopped."
Satine gave a small smile, “I love you too, and well... you remember the rest."
"So, what does this mean for us?"
"Well, I suppose it is only right we... try to be a couple."
"I quite like that." Obi-Wan kissed her again, this time deeper and more sincere.
