Hawks bit at his bottom lip as he held his phone to his ear, breaths jagged as he waited for the ringing to be cut off by the other end.
“Yes?”
“I did what you asked. Now let him go.”
Dabi made his way into the room, words halted at the door as he took in the bloody scene before him.
Hawks had asked him to help with some task he had to do because some scum somehow got their hands on Tsukuyomi.
Hawks told him they had to find some villain and take him and his group down.
He didn’t think it meant Hawks reddening his own hands further.
The hero himself was off to the side, sitting against a wall while steadying himself, his phone pressed to his ear.
“I see I didn’t even have to remind you for photo evidence.” The voice on the phone almost purred. “You did well, Hawks. Better than expected, even. I’ll hand over your little bird friend tomorrow. Same place, same time.”
After Hawks pocketed his phone, Dabi knelt down before him. “Shit, you’re a mess.”
“Considering that was an underground big shot,” Hawks remarked with a wince, “doesn’t surprise me.”
Dabi took one of Hawks’ hands to help him when he noticed. “Why are you shaking?”
He knew Hawks dealt with hostage situations and tough battles before.
This guy was also far from his first kill.
“Good, good question.” There were so many possibilities.
Adrenaline could still be going, or perhaps just how close he came several times to taking dangerous hits.
Tsukuyomi being the hostage didn’t help; it made this personal.
His League liaison being involved didn’t help, either.
Not when recently the two had finally acknowledged the elephant in the room that was their growing affection of each other.
But Dabi was more than capable of holding his own against the lackies who had tried to stop Hawks from his goal, to catch their boss before he successfully escaped.
Hawks struggled to even stand what little he did, the coughing worsening before he could even get halfway up.
Dabi had him sit back down. “Shit..!”
“Just a bit of coughing-“ Hawks felt a familiar rough hand gently trace under his bottom lip before showing him.
“‘Just’?” Blood. “You’re not standing up.”
“But we gotta get outta here-“ Hawks chirped as Dabi held his shoulders close to his chest before slipping his other arm under Hawks’ knees, slowly lifting him up.
“Relax, li’l birdie.”
Seemed to be easier said than done for Dabi; Hawks could hear his heart racing.
If Hawks had any doubts about their mutual feelings, this was another moment to prove Dabi was being honest about that.
“Mm.” Hawks smirked. “Bit soon t’ carry me like this, huh?”
“Shut it, pigeon.” With how easily Hawks’ oversized hero getup could be hiding injuries, the last things Dabi wanted him to be doing right now were squirming and talking.
“Love you, too, firecracker.”
