The worst part about falling in love with your best friend was the fact, that by the time you notice it, it is already too late.
Alex was already crushing on their best friend, so when they fell in love with Morgan it didn’t come as a very big surprise. They genuinely enjoyed their company and wanted to spend time with them. Morgan was overall a very easy person to like, but add the fact that they didn’t treat Alex differently because of their powers and Alex knew they were screwed.
Was Alex aware of the fact that there was no turning back for them? Absolutely. Did Alex plan to do anything about it? Absolutely not. They were well aware of the power difference and they could not risk losing Morgan because their romantic feelings. Alex would take in any form they could, even if it meant that they had to silently suffer while Morgan was tinkering with one of their machines and singing along to the radio.
This could not be fair, Morgan did not even seem to notice that they were singing, but somehow they singed it perfectly in tune and their voice just sounded so good. Alex turned around and started making toast and coffee, so they did not have to look at Morgan be smart and put together a drone and be all atractive.
“Alex, did you hear about the new hero with the mysterious powers?” asked Morgan once the song was over.
“No, I have not payed attention to new today. What does the press say about them.”
“Well…. nobody knows their powers, but they are fairly new and already a A tier. They must be pretty powerful if they got so much attention so quick. I just wanted to warn you, not that you would have any problems when fighting them.” Alex looked at Morgan and could see that they tried to hide something, but could not tell what, so they decided to just continue the conversation.
“I won’t have any problem with them, but thanks for warning, I keep a lookout for them. Maybe they will even prove a fun fight.”
“If you meet them and figure out what their power is, tell me, but please spare me the gory details.”
“Anything for you,” Alex answered, and meant it probably more literally than Morgan could ever think of.

Alex did end up meeting the hero after a few days, and it was a pretty good fight, even if a little disappointing. Alex figured that with such mysterious powers it would be a bigger challenge, but they attacked Alex with a team of heroes and only hit Alex with their powers once. The hero seemed surprised when nothing happened, so Alex figured the power did not work on them.
After the fight Alex went to their lair and prepared everything for the movie night with Morgan. They could not wait to tell Morgan about the new hero, even if they did not figure out their powers.

Morgan arrived not long after, and they sat on the sofa side by side, both had a blanket and a big bowl of popcorn sat on Morgans lap. They decided to watch Lord of the Rings, and somewhere in the middle of the second movie Alex fell asleep and Morgan followed just before the end of the movie. They somehow shifted so Morgan was lying on Alex and Alex had their arm around Morgan.
When Morgan woke up, it was to Alex mumbling something in their sleep and trying to move around. Morgan thought Alex looked like they was having a nightmare, which wasn’t logical, because Alex had never had had a nightmare, even after watching horror movies, which Alex hated. Something wasn’t right. they were pulled out of their train of thought by Alex almost begging.
“Morgan, no please. No, please no.” Morgan was pulled out of their train of thought by Alex almost begging. They had to wake them up.
“Alex, hey Alex, wake up, it is just a dream. You are having a nightmare.” Morgan half whispered and shook Alex’ shoulder. Suddenly Alex drew in a sharp breath and opened their eyes.
“Morgan,” they sighed, “Please say you don’t mean it, please. Please you..”
“Alex, I do not know what you are talking about, you were having a nightmare. Whatever you saw was not real.” Morgan quickly cut in. It seemed like Alex still thought they were in the dream.
“Oh, okay” Alex seemed shocked by this revelation. They went oddly quiet.
“Do you want to talk about it?” offered Morgan.
“Yes, no. I mean yes, but wait until i have to process this.”
“Take as long as you need.”
After few minutes Alex spoke up again.
“So, you remember how i told you I met this new hero?” Morgan nodded.
“Well turns out, their superpower has something to do with fears, I am not sure what yet, but they hit me with their power and since nothing happened I figured it didn’t work. Turns out it did work to some extent. I just saw a nightmare of my worst fear.” Morgan took a few second to process this.
“So, why were you saying my name, and what was that about after you woke up?”
“Morgan, my worst fear is that one day you are going to see me how I see myself. And then you realise what a monster I am and will leave me.” Alex looked down in their lap while they sayed this, as if afraid of Morgans reaction.
“Alex, look up, look at me. I will not leave you because of that, because I already know who you are, you could not scare me away that easily. Honestly, you are stuck with me.”
“I appreciate the sentiment, but I do not believe you.”
“Alex, I love you, even if I know what you do and why you do it, I love you, and not only as a friend.”
“You could still…. wait, you love me? Since when? How?”
“I do not know since when, it just happened. And is it really so unbelievable that I could love you?”
“Well, you said mass murder is a turn off.”
“Well, that was a long time ago, and i would be a fool to notice how much influence I have over you, even as just a friend.”
“Did you know I have the biggest crush on you?”
“I mean, no? I had guesses but nothing solid, thanks for confirming that by the way.” Morgan smirked and put their arms around Alex’ neck. Alex didn’t know what to do.
“I… You..could you..” they mumbled.
“What was that?” Morgan asked, trying to hold back their laugh at how flustered Alex was.
“I love you too. And can I kiss you?”
“I have bee waiting you to finally get to that question. Yes.” Morgan says, and then Alex kisses Morgan and it just feels right.
