Chapter 1: Sundrop Comes Home

Chapter Text

You got one! Eagerly holding the bag in your arms you made your way out of the game store.
It took hours of waiting in line but you’d finally managed to get ahold of one of the limited edition figures they’d made of Sundrop. Sadly they’d sold out of Moondrop before you even got to the front of the line, but you we’re still happy with your purchase.
“I’ll just have to see if I can get ahold of Moonie later…” You mumbled to yourself, sure you’d probably be paying out the ass for him but…you’d rather have them both. It didn’t sit right in your heart to only have one of them, they were a set after all.
You quickly opened your drivers door, getting into your car and placing your new figure on your passenger seat. After a minute of careful consideration you decided to buckle him in, you didn’t want anything happening to him after all!
Only once you had made sure he was nice and secure did you start your car, making sure to put your own seatbelt on as well. Now to get home so you could unbox him!! You practically vibrated as you made an excited noise to yourself, the smile not leaving your face.

You pulled into the lot for your apartment, unbuckling yourself and your precious cargo.
Once you got inside your apartment you let out another excited squeal, picking up the box and looking over Sundrop with an eager smile. He was so damn cute!!
He was posed in a standing position, one hand raised in an eagerly excited wave. His face had an open mouthed smile, eyes shining bright blue with cute little stars for pupils.
Ever so carefully you opened his box, making sure to cut the tape so you didn’t rip anything.
You slid him out of the box, removing the plastic that held him in the box. Once he was actually in your hands you got a bit nervous, what if you accidentally damaged him? “Let’s see…where can I set you where you’ll be safe?” Your eyes ran over to your desk and the empty spot next to your computer monitor. Perfect!! With a grin you placed him there, making sure he was placed just right so he could watch you while you played games. Your stomach growled. “Well it has been awhile since I’ve eaten something…” You left to go search for some food, thinking nothing of leaving Sundrop alone.

…Sundrop slowly blinked, waiting to make sure you were actually gone before sighing, closing his mouth and relaxing his arms by his sides. He could finally relax! Sun looked around the room, taking in everything. What kind of puzzled him was the lack of other toys. Why was he the only one? Wait, Moon?? He gasped and looked around, immediately saddened that you hadn’t gotten Moon too. He quickly moved back into place at the sound of you walking back to your room, he forgot to reopen his mouth. You walked in with a plate of food, setting it down on your desk. Your eyes wandered back to Sundrop with a grin, before you paused, wasn’t his mouth open before? “Huh, I must be going crazy.”
Sun however was mentally cursing himself, how could he forget to re-open his mouth? Ugh…he wondered if you’d notice if he did open it. You did seem quite preoccupied with picking out a YouTube video to watch while you ate.
Once he was sure your eyes were glued to the screen he slowly inched his mouth back open, hoping that you wouldn’t think anything of it.
Once you found the perfect video to watch, a five nights at Freddy’s one of course, you sat back in your chair and started eating, eyes moving over to Sundrop.
You choked a little on your food, noticing how his mouth was open again. “What?” You practically dropped your sandwich, picking up the figure to inspect. Once you confirmed that his jaw in fact wasn’t something that was moveable you were very confused.
Maybe you were just seeing things? But you also could’ve sworn that his mouth had been closed when you came in with your food. “This is the last time I go this long without proper sleep…” you mumbled, picking your sandwich back up to resume eating.

Eventually it got dark outside, the sun having set and the fact that you hadn’t slept since yesterday settled in. You’d been too anxious about sleeping through your many alarms, scared you wouldn’t get the Sundrop figure that you didn’t sleep last night. And boy was it starting to show. You let out a huge yawn, shutting your computer down for the night and heading to your bathroom to change and brush your teeth, tiredly unaware of Sundrop visibly relaxing in place on your desk.
He was just as you’d left him when you came back, your eyes drifting over him with a tired smile, leaning forward to look at him again. “Night Sunny, I’ll see you tomorrow buddy.” You gave his head a gentle pat before getting into bed, snuggling under your blankets.

Sun waited patiently for you to fall asleep, stretching his back out and letting out a sigh once you were. “I dunno if I can keep up with this…” He mumbled. It was already getting tiresome pretending to be just a figure, at least in the box and plastic he could relax. Out here though? He was stuck holding himself up and making sure he was in the exact right position, he’d already made you confused by forgetting to open his mouth earlier. Well, first things first, time to check out the place! Sun carefully hopped down from the desk, making sure to not make a lot of noise as he went to the bedroom door, slipping out through the crack you’d left. He made his way across the apartment, curiously looking around as he walked. “Oh this is actually pretty nice.” He paused when his eyes caught the art you had on the walls of your living room. They were of him and Moon. “Huh?” Sun curiously moved closer, scaling the couch so he could see the posters better. It seemed that you liked them both, but then why did you only get him and not Moon too?

You woke up suddenly, letting out a gasp when you sat upright. You couldn’t exactly remember what you had had a bad dream about. You glance over to your desk briefly in your half asleep state. “Oh he’s gone.” Wait…what? Your eyes go back, taking note of that his base that he was supposed to be glued to was still there…but there was no Sundrop. You even walked over to make sure you weren’t going crazy and that he really wasn’t there, holding the base in your hands. “What the hell?”
You swallowed as you set the base back down, taking a picture of it with your phone so you knew you weren’t crazy. “Guess I’ll just go grab some water, probably still dreaming…yeah.” Hopefully you were anyways, it’s not like Sundrop actually could’ve just walked off right?

He was so preoccupied with looking at the posters that he didn’t notice you were up and walking towards the kitchen. Sun gasped and hid behind the arm of the couch, watching you get a glass of water. You seemed confused about something.
Wait, oh crap! You probably noticed that he was gone! But there was absolutely no way he could run past you without you noticing, he had to try though! He waited until you went for a refill before making a run for it, cursing as his little plastic feet made noise as he ran across the thin carpet. At least he didn’t have actual bells, thankfully they were just plastic. Once he was back in the bedroom he made quick work of climbing up the side of your desk and getting back on his base. He made sure he was in the right pose this time, and not a moment too soon.

You walked back into your bedroom, you could’ve swore that you heard something. Your eyes moved over to the desk, having been staring at the picture of Sundrop’s empty base while you drank. Huh. He was back on said base now.
You narrowed your eyes slightly, moving to stand in front of your desk, staring intently at the figure. Now for the next test…without hesitation you picked him up, the base once more securely stuck to his feet.

Sun was confused and doing his best to remain stiff and in position, you were staring at him pretty intensely, eventually making eye contact with him. “…interesting, cause you weren’t in here or on the base when I left for water…” you said with a hum, making him even more nervous. Oh crumbs!!
You waited to see if that got a reaction, disappointingly it didn’t, making you wonder if you really were crazy.

He watched as you seemed…disappointed? You carefully put him back in his spot on your desk before heading back to your bed, placing your water glass on your nightstand. Eventually he decided to move, you were still awake and facing the wall while on your phone. He remembers that he shouldn’t blow his cover, many toys and figures got destroyed or abandoned for being ‘haunted’ in the past.
But you seemed honestly disappointed when he didn’t move, which is what was making him so hesitant. He felt bad for not confirming your suspicions, but he was almost scared to for fear of you getting rid of him, he didn’t want that! After careful thinking Sun got an idea, a wonderful idea that wouldn’t (hopefully) result in him getting abandoned or sold. He really hoped so anyways.

Next morning:

You woke up a bit groggy, throat parched since you accidentally fell asleep with your mouth open.
You snatched up your water cup, gulping down the liquid eagerly. Once done you stood up and stretched, then you remembered the weird situation that happened last night, it was probably just a dream. But once you went over to your desk you now weren’t so sure.
Sure Sundrop was still there, but that wasn’t the issue.
He was in a completely different pose.
Instead he was making a little heart shape with his hands, his mouth wide in a grin as he partially crouched to pull off the cute pose. Oh…so that meant you weren’t crazy.
He did move last night.
You swallowed slowly, gently picking him up. He even felt a bit softer, not as stiff in this pose, like he was a little more relaxed or something. After careful consideration you placed him back down, turning around to head out of the room.
“Oh! Almost forgot.” You turned back towards him, giving him a gentle pat on his head, a small smile on your face. You then turned back around to leave, your voice drifting from the hallway.
“Love the pose by the way!”

…Sun felt like he definitely made the right choice.
