Work Text:
“Azashita!” Hinata said goodbye to the people who treated him wonderfully during his stay in Brazil.
They all repeated the word while waving their hands. Shoyo turned around and walked toward the waiting room for his next flight.
It would be an exhausting flight back to Japan. The only thought going through his mind was “ I want a caramel frappuccino from Kagitions’ Café when I arrive in Sendai ”.
50 hours later…
“Ah~” Shoyo yawned.
His flight to Sendai had finally landed, after more than two consecutive days of seemingly endless flights.
“Shoyo-kun,” the little blonde girl saluted him, “Welcome back home!”
“Toka-chan~.” Shoyo hugged her with his strong arms.
“Ca-can’t breathe!” Hitoka was getting desperate. Shoyo did gain muscle mass in those last two years.
“I-I’m sorry.” the man let her go, the blonde was as red as a tomato.
“No worries.” she laughed, “So… it’s 7 am right now. Do you want me to take you home so you can sleep properly?”
“I’d love to but first I need you to do me a favour.” Both of them walked to the parking lot of the airport.
Hitoka helped him with the carry-on bag. “Sure, tell me!”
“Do you remember that place where we used to go after training?” Shoyo begged inwardly that his friend would remember his favourite café.
“I thought you wouldn’t remember Kagitions’ Café…” Yachi was surprised. “I haven't taken a step inside that place since we were in 3rd grade back in high school.”
“I’ve been waiting two years to try their sweet Caramel Frappé again,” the orange-haired man's eyes were full of hope, “Please, take me there.”
“Sho-kun, I’m not sure if the place is open by this time,” Yachi answered, “It’s too early for some businesses to be open.”
“Drive me there and if it’s not open, the breakfast is on me.” Hinata looked for his wallet, but he didn't find it in his sweatpants.
“Do-don’t wo-worry, Sho-kun,” the smallest gurgled, “I need a drink too.”
“Let’s go~,” Hinata finished sorting his bags in the boot of her friend’s car and climbed into the passenger seat.
He’d finally taste his favourite drink again after 2 years. He was extremely happy.
He didn’t realise at what point he’d fallen asleep, but he opened his eyes when Hitoka woke him up.
“Sho-kun, we’re here,” Yachi whispered
Shoyo yawned while he was looking for his wallet.
“Toka-chan,” caught her attention, “Place your order if you want. I think my wallet is in the carry-on bag or somewhere else in my bags.”
“Sure,” Hitoka handed him the key to lock her car, “Do you want me to place your order too?”
“I’ll do it, don’t worry,” Shoyo commented, “Just choose a table with a nice view of the city, please.”
Hitoka just offered him a smile and continued her way to the cafeteria.
Shoyo got out of the car and opened the boot, he was pretty sure he’d left his boot in one of the small pockets of the carry-on luggage.
And that's exactly where he found that blue wallet he bought after the one Natsu gave him on his way to Brazil was stolen.
He proceeded to lock the blonde's car and entered the café, which was definitely open at that time of the morning.
He could see his driver in one of the corners, already enjoying her Iced Caramel Macchiato. He would approach their table after placing his order.
He approached the register where he would place his order.
“Hi, welcome to Kagitions’ Café,” a black-haired woman said, “What would you like?”
“Are you new here?” Shoyo changed the topic drastically. It was the first time he saw her there.
“Actually, my grandfather was the founder of the café so I’m working here because mom told me to do it,” she confessed, “Have you ever been to this café before? This is the first time I've seen you around here.”
“I used to come here with my friend who is right there,” he pointed at Hitoka who was chatting with someone on her phone, “I just came back from Brazil, and I missed drinking my favourite Caramel Frappé of all time.”
“I’m glad you chose our Caramel Frappuccino as your favourite one,” she smiled, “So that’s what you’re going to order, right?”
“You’re right, Miwa,” Shoyo read her name on the name badge.
“What’s your name?” Miwa requested to add to the purchase receipt.
“Shoyo,” he responded.
“So… Shoyo, wait a few minutes. Go to your table if you want, Tobio will hand you your Frappuccino.” the raven suggested.
“Don’t worry, I’ll be waiting here,” he said, stepping to the end of the bar.
While Shoyo was checking his phone when he heard someone calling him, he didn’t look up from his phone screen as he was telling his sister that he was already in Sendai.
“Shoyo, here’s your order.” a guy said.
Hinata tasted it and it was the best drink he’d drunk in a while. Then he looked up so that he could thank the owner of the voice.
Okay, the raven in front of him was probably the most handsome boy he’s ever seen. He might even say that the Brazilian boys and girls who once flirted with him are no match for the beauty of the blue-eyed barista. Why had he never seen him in the shop before? Was he also a new employee like Miwa?
“Tha-thank you!” Shoyo's face was most likely red with nervousness at that moment, “Tobio-kun, right?”
Or, as most people would describe that kind of situation he’s having as , gay panic .
“You’re right, Shoyo-kun,” he said with a smirk on his face, “Enjoy your order.”
When they left the café, he didn’t know whether it was his drink or that black-haired boy that made him enjoy his time in the cafeteria so much more than before.
Hinata promised himself that the next time he entered the café he would get the cute boy's number.
It was already the tenth time he visited the café, but he still didn't muster up enough courage to talk to the boy other than the usual words of thanks for making his favourite drink.
On most occasions —when he could— he stayed for a couple of hours in the cafeteria working on some files on his laptop, but he was more focused on what the beautiful black-haired guy was doing when there were no customers.
Apparently, he enjoys talking with the girl at the cash register —who he found out a few weeks later was his sister— and enjoys planning volleyball strategies on paper napkins.
Yeah, Tobio was interested in volleyball too and that made Shoyo the happiest man on Earth. What if he could finally fulfil his fairy dream of marrying someone who loves volleyball as much as he does?
“That only happens in fairy tales though,” he thought.
Shoyo continued reading the document he was going to send to apply for the position of Wing Spiker of the MSBY's Black Jackals. Besides meeting and establishing a conversation lasting more than a minute with the cute guy at the coffee shop, his other concern was that the deadline to apply for the MSBY Black Jackals was not passed.
Everything was going as usual until he heard steps coming to his table.
“Hey, Shoyo-kun,” Tobio mumbled, “I know this is kinda awkward, but I wanted to thank you for coming to the café.”
“Oh…” he was silent for a few seconds, “I've been coming here since I was in high school, as I explained to Miwa.”
“That’s why she’s sending you this,” the raven gave him a slide of carrot cake, “She hopes you like it.”
“I haven't had carrot cake from this place in years,” the smallest exclaimed, “Thank you so much, Tobio. Also, tell Miwa that I thank her for the gift.”
“Don’t worry,” the tallest guy said, “It’s on the house.”
Shoyo stared at the pretty boy as he walked away towards a door that —he assumed— was the one leading to the kitchen.
“Tobio-chan~” Miwa approached him, “How was it?”
“I couldn’t tell him the carrot cake slide was on me,” the younger brother covered his face with his hands, “What if he’s straight?”
“Yeah, I could hear from here that you said I was sending it.” she rolled her eyes, “Also, c’mon, that boy has been staring at you for weeks!”
“I haven’t noticed it before,” Miwa’s brother blurted, “I’ll try next time.”
“If you don’t do it by yourself, let me give you a hand,” she grabbed him from the wrist, “Accompany me, please.”
The elder Kageyama literally dragged her younger brother until they were in front of the orange-haired man's table.
“Yeah?” he looked at them, “Is he okay?”
“He's just a snot-nosed little liar,” she said, dragging a chair from the table next to them, “Tobio has been wanting to talk to you for a few weeks now but doesn’t dare.”
Now Tobio wasn’t the only one who was flushed.
“Men are so weird nowadays,” Miwa thought.
“I'll leave you two alone so you can talk.” she saw a client coming in, “By the way, the cake from earlier was actually sent by Tobio.”
Finally, she walked away, leaving the two boys alone.
“So…” Shoyo didn’t know how to start the conversation, “I saw that a few days ago you were drawing volleyball strategies on a napkin.”
Shoyo immediately noticed that Tobio's eyes lit up like never before, causing his pupils to dilate in tandem.
“Yes,” he responded, “I love volleyball.”
That was the beginning of a conversation that lasted until the café closed. Before Shoyo said goodbye to Tobio, the raven wrote his number on a napkin and handed it to the tanned guy at the door of the café.
“Here’s my nu-number if you ever like to talk somewhere other than the café.” Tobio was so nervous he couldn't even look him in the eye.
“I’ll save your number as ‘pretty boy from the café’!” he radiantly smiled, “See you soon, Tobio-kun!”
“See you next time, Shoyo-kun.” the raven waved his hand.
Once again, Tobio was having a gay panic.
“Shoyo, where did that come from?” he thought to himself.
He’d never dared so much before, but at least he already has the phone number of the cute guy from the café.
He arrived home and went directly to his old room. He was going to rent an apartment in Osaka if MSBY’s accepted him into the team.
He took off his shoes and set his backpack carefully on his desk chair as he was carrying his laptop.
He jumped straight onto the bed and searched through his pockets to find the napkin with Tobio's phone number on it. He took the number and sent him a message.

To: pretty boy from the café (tobio-kun) [10:32 PM]
don’t worry
i didn't dare to come forward and talk to u
say thanks to ur sister 4 helping us :p
They continued chatting until they saw the time on the clock: 1:30 A.M. They sent goodbye messages, and both left their phones, waiting to be used the next day.
Months went by very quickly and during that time they realised that the chemistry between them was incomparable, it was as if they were made for each other. Or, in Hinata’s words, spending time with Kageyama was like “Woah!”, “Boom!” and “Hush!”.
In case you didn’t understand, what he meant is he feels Tobio is the person he didn’t know he needed to be with until they grow older and live in a house full of puppies. Yeah, Tobio got him wrapped around his finger .
Now, the orange-haired man was sitting in the park, waiting for his date to arrive at the meeting place. He was almost melting since it was hot as hell outside, summer in Japan is the worst season.
“Tobio-kun, where are you?” Hinata asked in the call.
“Give me 5 min-” he stopped talking, “Hold on, I think I saw you.”
“I’m raising my hand right now,” he said.
“Yeah, definitely this is you.” The raven smiled and finished the call.
“Hi, cute boy,” Shoyo hugged him, “Wait, why are you sweating?”
“Just came back from training,” he wasn’t lying.
“Ohhhh, so you train with kids?” Shoyo's eyes filled with happiness at the idea.
“Well, Wakatoshi is like a big one, a big quiet one…” Kageyama thought for a second. “Yeah, with kids,” he replied.
“Kids are cool, I like them,” and there was Shoyo again with that charming smile that makes anyone fall in love with him.
Even Tobio fell for the brightest sunshine, Hinata Shoyo, the ‘orange-haired chibi from the café’.
They continued talking as they were going to Shoyo’s flat. As much as they loved the winter season in Sendai, they weren’t in the mood for being outside since it was snowing.
After a 30-minute walk from the park, they arrived at the door of the smallest one's flat.
“Please, come in,” Shoyo kindly invited him in, “Take your shoes off, please.”
“Sumimasen” Tobio took a step into Shoyo's small flat, where he first took off his shoes at the genkan at the same time the owner did.
“Would you like to eat or drink something?” the orange-haired offered. “I have orange juice, water, tea, whatever you like.”
“Do you have milk?” the raven whispered, “It was cold outside, so I need something to warm my body up.”
“Yeah, sure!” Shoyo walked towards the kitchen, “Please, make yourself at home.”
Kageyama was impressed by the various pictures on the walls in the orange-haired man's flat. Those were pictures of people he didn't know, but all of them showed Shoyo smiling.
There was one that really caught his attention.
It showed the cute boy much younger than he was and next to him there was a little girl who was a smaller version of the orange-haired boy, with the same charming smile as Hinata.
“Oh, she’s Natsu!” Footsteps were coming closer to him, “She’s my younger sister.”
“She’s as cute as you,” even Tobio was surprised by his words, “I mean… she’s cuter than you, she’s younger a-and-”
Shoyo just laughed, he understood the blue-eyed guy’s feeling. “Yeah, people always say we’re much alike.”
“You look like twins,” he confessed.
“I know right, but she’s just my little sister,” Hinata mentioned again. “Anyway, here’s your milk.”
Tobio thanked him and took a sip. Neither too hot nor too cold, it was the perfect temperature for his palate.
“So… I remember you told me you enjoy playing board games…” he slowly pulled out a box from under the coffee table with the name ‘Monopoly’ printed on it.
Oh, that game.
“What would you say if I told you that the game you chose brings out the competitive side in me?” Tobio hasn’t played it in a long time.
“I’d say it’s great ‘cause the same thing happens to me,” Shoyo smirked, “Shall we start?”
Tobio nodded. They started playing at 5 P.M. but it wasn’t until 1:30 A.M. that they realised they hadn’t finished and hadn’t had dinner yet.
“Oh shit, it’s too late!” the raven realised, “Tell me I’m not the only one who is starving by this point.”
“I can whip something up for us,” Hinata stood up and went straight to the kitchen, “Are you allergic to something?”
“Not to my knowledge.” he shrugged.
The orange-haired guy ended up cooking Mac and Cheese, his personal favourite dish when he isn’t in the mood to cook something or when he wants something quick. The boys ate in the living room as they talked about the pictures on Shoyo’s flat walls.
The clock struck 3 A.M. when Tobio started to feel a bit sleepy. He’s used to sleeping at 10 P.M, rolled up in his sheets and snoring (but he doesn’t like to admit it).
“Oi, Shoyo,” Kageyama leaned on his shoulder, “I’m falling asleep.”
Shoyo slowly stroked those black strands that from the start seemed too silky for his calloused hands. He felt like he was touching the finest yarns he had ever touched.
The older man rapidly went to his room to pull out a thin blanket in case Tobio wanted to keep warm at night. Who knew if the black-haired man was one of those people who necessarily had to cover himself with something no matter if the temperature at night was 25 degrees Celsius.
The following morning Kageyama was the one who woke up first, so he cooked breakfast since Hinata was very welcoming during his stay in his flat.
‘Amor de Siempre’ by Cuco was playing in the background. There he was a shirtless Kageyama, cooking souffle eggs as he drank a cup of chamomile tea.
He suddenly heard yawns coming from the only bedroom in the flat. Tobio could hear the person was wearing slippers since steps were heard, coming on his way.
“‘Mornin’ Yama,” Shoyo patted his shoulder, “what are you cooking?”
“Just souffle eggs since they’re your favourite,” Tobio took a skip from his cup of tea.
“Yeah but…” Shoyo got silent, “I told you that in one of those late-night conversations when we just met.”
“ Oh ,” Tobio’s never blushed so hard in his damn life.
Shoyo just laughed and placed a kiss on his hand, “I think you’re the only one who remembers that little detail about me.”
“Yeah?”
“Yeah.”
And maybe, just maybe , Shoyo added “he remembers little details” to his not-written list of “things I do like about Tobio and why he should be my boyfriend.”
More months passed and eventually, they had to move away from each other as Kageyama had to move to Tokyo to continue training and Shoyo moved to Osaka as he was finally accepted by a top division team, MSBY Black Jackals.
Both from afar and fulfilling their dreams, they continued to keep in touch through text messages and video calls, without losing the spark they’d built up over the months they were in Sendai.

Tobio knew at some point in his life he’d have to tell him about his profession. Shoyo still thought he was a children's trainer when in fact, the children were Hoshiumi, Wakatoshi and sometimes even Higurami-san and Romero-san.
“Oy kid,” Romeo patted his head, “the head coach is calling us.”
His eyes sparkled when he heard his idol call him that way, “Let’s go then.”
They sat next to each other on the floor in the middle of the gymnasium. Suzaku-san was reading paperwork (or that’s what the raven thought) until the old man talked.
“So, guys, we got big news,” he said.
Tobio’s face changed when he heard those words which made a hole in his brain.
“We’re gonna go against MSBY in two weeks in Sendai.”
Oh shit .
How is Tobio going to explain to his favourite person in the whole world he wasn’t training with kids, that he’s a professional volleyball player?
“Hey Waka-kun,” Tobio ran after him after he got into the showers room, “I need your help.”
“What happened?” Ushijima asked, looking at those worried eyes of his friend, “it must be really concerning since you came to me for help.”
“Shut up,” the blue-eyed guy rolled his eyes, “you’re saying so as if I don’t talk to you every day even to get you to come to my flat for dinner.”
Wakatoshi grinned at him and patted his head, “You know I’m just kidding; you dumb.”
“Now, tell me… what’s happening in that little head of yours?”
“So, there’s this boy-” the raven was interrupted by Ushijima.
“Hold on,” Ushijima eyed him with a bewildered gaze, “Are you Kageyama Tobio?”
“Uh, yeah,” a confused Tobio replied, “Why?”
“Are you talking about someone you’re into?” Wakatoshi couldn’t believe it, “Tobio-kun, this is the very first time I’ve heard you talking about someone that way.”
“It’s because he’s the very first person I’ve fallen for,”
“Is this really the first time? Not even in high school?”
“This is the one, Waka-kun,” Kageyama admitted, “I might have a crush on him.”
Ushijima grabbed him from the wrist (just like his sister is used to) and dragged him outside the gym, “Let’s head home so we can take a shower and gossip about that boy of yours while we cook dinner.”
That’s why he loved his best friend.
They arrived at their shared flat and took showers in their own bathrooms. Thirty minutes later, Ushijima was cooking his speciality, Hayashi rice, as Kageyama was using their hair dryer.
“Now, tell me what’s going on with him,” Wakatoshi asked as he chopped celery.
Tobio told him everything about Hinata, from how they met at his grandpa’s café up to his current concern.
“I think I love him, Ushi-kun,” Tobio declared, “I don’t know if I can keep this a secret anymore.”
“You said those three little words,” the olive-eyed man said as stirring the stew in the pot.
“It’s because I really feel like I’m in love with that man,” Ushijima’s mouth went round.
“Oh, boy. You’re head over heels for him.”
“I know that feeling,” Wakatoshi sighed, “That’s how I used to think about Tendou when I realised, I was into him and now we’re married.”
Tobio almost choked on his own spit.
Thoughts about himself getting married before even confessing his feelings for Hinata? That’s too much.
Miwa would just laugh at him if she saw him blushing and thinking about marriage to someone who doesn’t even know how her younger brother is feeling.
“Getting to the point, I’d recommend you tell him within the next few weeks before you meet him in Sendai again and without having told him the truth about what you were doing here in Tokyo. Just to avoid misunderstandings.”
“And how do I tell him that I have actually been training as a professional player and not with small children?” He had no idea.
“That’s a pretty good question but I don’t know how,” he shrugged as he tasted the stew, “But you gotta tell him as soon as possible.”
Talk about Hinata Shoyo in Wakatoshi-Kageyama's residence stopped that day but there was a constant question in Tobio's thoughts.
“How the hell am I gonna tell Shoyo about this after all these months?”
Weeks flew by and the day of the match had come. Of course, Tobio knew Shoyo knew about the match but he just told him as a rumour.

Now they were there minutes before they went out to the court. Tobio was sweating, he didn't know how Shoyo was going to react when he saw his face in his white and gold uniform.
“Still nervous?” Ushijima sat next to him on the bench, “He’s gonna react positively.”
“I don’t know, Waka-kun,” Kageyama scratched his neck, “but let’s fucking do this.”
“Guys, it’s time to go out!” Hirugami-san said out loud, “Time to beat those Jackals.
“The one who’s gonna beat me is Hinata, for sure,” Tobio said as he walked through the aisle that connected their showers to the main court.
He could already see his sunshine boy on his side of the net, waving to the public.
“The following player is considered as one of the best setters of Japan,” the assigned commentator of the match emphasised, “let’s welcome Shweider Aldlers’ setter: Kageyama Tobio.”
Kageyama connected gazes to the newly recruited jackal. He didn’t say a word.
“Hey Sho-kun,” Miya Atsumu said, “Do you know him?”
A petrified Hinata replied, “Actually I do know him, a lot.”
That’s what Tobio heard before the commentator spoke again to present Nicollas Romero.
Tobio was screwed, he already knew so.
The match ended in a victory for MSBY Black Jackals. They celebrated with their public as Shweiden Adlers left the court to claps of the spectators of the exhausting match in which they put their heart and soul.
After they took showers, Kageyama’s teammates insisted on going to a bar to enjoy a “team bonding night” but all the raven wanted was to talk with the man he met back in the café.
“Good luck, buddy,” Ushijima patted his shoulder, “Call me up if you need me.”
Tobio was left alone in front of the Jackals’ locker room as he waited for their new recruit.
“All I’d say,” Tobio heard Miya’s voice whispering, “is that his attacks were not as strong as in the training we had days before.”
“So, you must fix him,” Sakusa Kiyoomi whispered behind him, “now.”
Tobio turned on his heels and could see the two players intertwining their fingers as they walked out of the showers.
“What a powerful couple,” he thought.
Kageyama left his thoughts about them deep in his brain when he saw some red-haired locks rushing out of the shower room, heading in the direction of the couple he saw a moment ago.
“Hinata…” Tobio jogged in his direction, “I need you to hear me.”
“Are you fucking going to lie to me like you did these months?” he could hear sobs coming from his beloved.
“Please, let me explain everything.”
“Why didn’t you tell me before and waited until today?” Hinata was crying at this point.
He couldn’t believe what Tobio had done. He’s willing to forgive everything but lies… they don’t have even a chance.
“I-I,” Tobio had no reason, “I don’t know.”
“Were you seeing anyone else while I was in Osaka?” Hinata’s tears soaked his face.
Kageyama denied, “Why would I see somebody else if the one I was hoping to see tonight was you?
Hinata was left speechless.
“It was always you, Hinata,” Tobio wiped his salty tears and caressed his cheekbone, “May I ask you something?”
“Yeah,” the Jackal whispered.
“Would you let me explain it all to you so we can move on?” Tobio kissed his forehead.
“I’d love to, Bakayama,” Hinata smiled.
Oh, that radiant smile of his.
They went to the place they met. The smell of coffee made Tobio feel less anxious compared to when he was outside the Jackals’ locker room. Fortunately, the café was already closed so they’d have a chance to talk without people interrupting them (maybe Miwa but she’s an exception).
“Wanna drink somethin’?” Tobio put on his old barista apron, “It’s on the house.”
“You already know what I like,” Hinata softly laughed as he saw Tobio going to the bar where drinks are prepared.
Miwa noticed Shoyo sitting on one of the chairs and waved at him. Nevertheless, this time she noticed something else: that special spark in his brown eyes, which had conveyed a message to Tobio's older sister.
“Men are so weird nowadays,” Miwa smirked at the thought, “but at least they already noticed they like each other.”
Tobio went back to where Shoyo was and handed him his sweet drink, “Here you have, big boy.”
“Thanks, Yama,” Shoyo gave it a sip, “Delicious as always.”
Tobio nodded as he took a sip of his Iced Black Tea, “Let me explain it all, please.”
“Sure,” Hinata settled into his seat and started listening carefully to what Kageyama was saying.
He explained from when he was accepted into the team to when he met Shoyo, and how he didn’t know how to tell him he was a professional player.
“I guess I didn’t know when,” Tobio shrugged.
“Hold on,” Shoyo objected, “So why did you tell me you trained with kids when I asked you?
“I assumed you'd ask that question,” Tobio chuckled and brushed a little, “Well, my teammates have this… childish behaviour.”
He was left wide-eyed, “What?”
The blue-eyed guy unlocked his phone and showed him photos and videos of him next to his silly teammates.
Never in a billion years, could Hinata have imagined his favourite players like the icon Nicollas Romero or the one and only Tatsuto Sokolov singing along to ‘Clock Strikes’ by ONE OK ROCK, on a karaoke night of one of the thousand bonding nights Adlers’ have had.
“What I’ve just seen?” Shoyo raised his brow, staring at Tobio with a confused gaze, “Are those the ones I saw a few hours ago in the court?”
“Yes, they are,” Kageyama giggled.
They stayed silent until they burst into laughs. Adlers’ looked like a team with very serious players but those videos are against it.
“So funny, Tobio-kun,” Shoyo was flushed.
And, oh, his laugh was like a melody to Kageyama’s ears.
The most beautiful melody in the universe.
“Oy, Sho-kun,” Hinata stopped laughing, “I wanted to ask you something else.”
“Yeah, tell me,” the Jackal smiled at him.
“Okay, Tobio. You can do this,” he encouraged himself.
“I don’t exactly know how to do this since this is the first time I’m feeling like this…” Kageyama flushed, “As Miwa once said, I feel butterflies in my stomach.”
Tobio’s sister’s head popped out of the counter, “Hey, I didn’t say that!”
“Get lost, Miwa!” Tobio knitted his brows.
Shoyo just laughed.
“I’m not the best at words so let’s get to the point,” the raven sighed, “I don’t know if you wanna be my-”
“Yes.”
“Sho-kun, I didn’t even complete the question,” Tobio chuckled.
“I know but,” Hinata took Kageyama’s hand between his, “I want to be anything to stay close to you.”
‘Yeah, it’s gonna be him.’
Kageyama could wait anymore so he crashed his lips against Hinata’s, feeling the taste of the sweet whipped topping and caramel drizzle melting into the heat of their mouths.
Shoyo’s just as sweet as a Caramel Frappé.
Hinata cupped his face as he parted his lips from his beloved’s, “May I ask you again?”
“Yeah, please.”
“Do you wanna be my boyfriend?” Tobio stared at him directly in his eyes.
Into his soul.
“Yes, I’d love to,” Shoyo pecked his lips again.
Oh, sweet lover of his.
Four years had passed and now they were at the peak of their careers. Both were players in Japan’s National Volleyball Team and in their respective international teams: Kageyama in Ali Roma from Italy and Hinata in ASAS S ã o Paulo from Brazil.
They hadn’t seen each other in a long time and finally, they would have a date after another two months of a long-distance relationship. It was going to be in the same café where they met.
Kagitions’ Café.
Shoyo was already there waiting for his boyfriend, talking with his sister-in-law at the end of the bar.
Meanwhile, Tobio was panting as he ran to his previous workplace. He didn’t show up before because he had to pick it up.
Miwa excused herself and went to the toilets of the café to call her brother. “Dumbass, where are you?” she asked when he picked up.
“I’m a block away from the café. Do you have it already?”
“Yeah,” she smiled, “I’m gonna be recording the whole situation in case you need it in the future for your kids.”
“Thanks,” Tobio blushed on the other line, “Love you. I’ll be there in a minute.”
“See you.”
Miwa left the bathroom when she heard the café door being opened quickly and an agitating voice saying his brother-in-law’s name.
“The time has come,” she was so excited for both of them.
Meanwhile, Hinata kissed his boyfriend as if it was the first time they did it.
“Hi, love,” Tobio kissed his fluffy orange hair, smelling it, “Your shampoo smells amazing.”
“I missed you so much, Yama,” Shoyo kissed his firm chest, “And thanks, it’s new.”
“I knew it,” he whispered before pecking Hinata’s lips, “It’s a best-seller in Italy.”
“Stop talking and kiss me instead.”
Hot saliva was already drooling from between their mouths. The kiss showed how much they missed each other even though they call every single day and send each other ‘good night’ and ‘good morning’ texts.
“You’re showing so much love in front of this lonely bird,” Miwa appeared from the kitchen, with slices of carrot cake.
“T-thanks,” a blushed orange-haired man replied, “Yama, where are we gonna sit?”
“Come here,” the raven intertwined their fingers, making Shoyo feel butterflies in his stomach.
He guided them to the table Hinata sat at the first time Tobio noticed him. Four years ago their lives changed to meet the love of their lives.
“So…” Tobio started as he saw his boyfriend chomping a piece of cake, “How was your flight?”
An endless conversation started, diving into their own world, just like they like when they are together. When they are together, they just get lost in each other’s words.
“Shoyo,” Kageyama interrupted his boyfriend’s speech of how he spiked a ball against a player of the team opposing ASAS in the final game of the Brazilian league, “Can I ask you something?”
Miwa showed up with Hinata’s favourite drink: a Caramel Frappé.
“Thanks, Miwa-chan,” he smiled at her, “Tobio, you were sayin’...”
“Yeah,” he softly held his hands between his, “You know I’m not a man of words but I can’t explain how brighter my life has become when you joined my path.”
Hinata just kept listening as he drank his drink.
“You make me feel like I’m living the teenage dream, the one I don’t wanna ever wake up from. I don’t know what I did in my past lives to deserve you but I want you to be my partner in this life and in the following ones, being by my side every time I need you and I wanna be there for you when you need me.
I wanna be by your side until we have grey hair and compete for who wins at Monopoly. Through thick and thin, always with you. We’re a match made in heaven.”
“Yama, my baby,” Hinata was already sobbing, “Fuck, I love you so much. I couldn’t live without you.”
“And that’s why I’m asking, ” he stood up from his chair as he pulled out the little velvet black box containing the engagement ring he’d gone to get before arriving at the café. Kneeling, he said, “My love, do you wanna marry me?”
Shoyo didn’t think twice and threw himself into his beloved’s arms, “Yes, of course, yes. It would always be a yes if it’s you, Yama.”
Miwa was recording the memorable moment from the end of the bar, where they first saw each other.
They kissed to reaffirm their promise. Their promise to be together no matter what, because together they are invincible.
At the beginning and at the end, in good times and bad ones, there was always a Caramel Frappé with them.
Would that be their lucky drink?
